The 4 months update shocked me!! I expected it to be much more messy and unmanageable because you are using ludwigia super red + too much hairgrass. Do you trim your hairgrass?
You're right, (so far) the background never really filled in to your expectations? I thought the Val choice really added a great leaf shape contrast, and vals always give the scape "flow"- nice color as well. Livestock choice is great, cichlids really colored up nice! Overall, scale and layout are good,..... quite the carpet you've grown! Thanks for all the effort- always a great learning experience for me.
Thank you so much for explaining everything! I’ve watched other aquascapes and they just show the process and final, but they don’t explain maintenance or what they are doing to support their plants. As a person just getting into this hobby your explanation is so helpful. And I love how beautiful your tanks end up. Going to try the filterless XXL shrimp tank vase (from your videos)for a centerpiece in my dining room table for first try. Thank you for all your videos 😊
I have currently 8 fish tanks.Have had over 50 over the last 40 years... I never asked what fish.I always planned ahead what plants, temperature and fish (shrimps, snails) and researched their requirements..Take that home with you.
I'm impressed that oase found a way to glue the corners of the aquarium at 45 degrees. In this way they can use 6mm thick glass instead of the normal thickness of 10mm. Because the surface area of the (6mm glass) 90 degree corner is not enough to hold the pressure of the water column. The benefits are: lower costs, better looking glued joints. Nice scape.
Before watching your excellent video, I was planning to make a second new cubic tank 45x45, now empty. I've yet bought dragon stones, some woods, fluorite soil. I already have all technical equipments, from previous tanks. But your video made me change my project: I will not make that new tank. Too much complicated, too much work, too much wasted water, too much money, and sometimes frustrating. So, thanks a lot for the video: I will dedicated all those resources outside for walking, biking and gardening. I said myself that the tank I already own is enough. Have again my congratulations for your skilled job
I have a 90L now, but having been eyeing the 90P for some time now (so I can resume the same cabinet). It's looks much bigger than I thought it would be. :)
This video inspired me to invest and reinvent my 30 gallon aquarium. From the aquascape shape to the timeline required to achieve the end product. Thank you!
Just wanna say: I found your account a few weeks ago. I got back into aquariums a couple months ago but discovered what aquascaping was, and your videos have been super helpful and relaxing to watch. Thanks.
All the plants look fantastic, I especially love the moss that looks like fern (weeping moss, I believe). Very impressive how it all looks like a whole in the end, and not just some assembled hardscape and plants.
I haven`t really sat down for a long time and watched a full tank instalment video for a long time. It was nice relaxing inspiration and very beautifull made. Thank you for sharing MJ. 😊
I love this video format, start to finish (well, not exactly finish, but you get the point). Amazing tank, scape and setup. These cichlids are great. 👍
Excellent. Great to see how this setup is developing. Please keep us updated on how you’re dealing with the algae. I think that’s the thing I struggle with most.
I often wondered why aquascapers arent using peristaltic pumps on a timer for auto fertiliser dosing, then here we are looking at your new fert pump and its peristaltic 😂 i thought i had a new idea 😂 ..
Brilliant video! Love long aquascaping videos. Makes me want to rescape my 4ft tank. I just re scaped my 55litre into a jungle tank. My tiger lotus lily has boomed it has so many runners im having to trim it every week. Cant wait to see more videos of this tank
Beautiful, I really love this. I appreciate the longer video too, more to learn from and be inspired by. My tank total is up to 10 but I will always want another 😁
Hey MJ! Awesome video, would you mind doing a tip/advice video some day? I think I got a few useful tips/hacks that can help biginner aquascapers save some cash and gain some experience. Keep on making these amazing videos!
Just wanted to thank you for the videos, really inspiring and relaxing to watch! Also tried your DIY-CO2 Setup and can say that it works perfectly fine!
Love these longer videos! Been thinking of using an air stone when the Co2 goes off in a couple of my scapes, quite fancy trying one of those diffusers now! 😁🌊🐟🌿
I was wondering what was going to replace the big shallow.... ive been watching the channel for three or four months now... and just planted my first aquascape. Thanks for the inspiration!
Really like this long video. Hairgrass has grown in very nicely...once the background gets taller, it should look like what you were aiming for.. I'm a new fan of those African butterfly cichlids... Regarding the BBA, high flow and Co2 mist combined can do it.. probably reducing the flow a bit can help...
great video. planning to breakdown by ada 90P soon and start planning a new scape. haven't seen those dwarf cichilds before, compliments your scape well.
Absolutely beautiful video, like all others. I need to switch from gravel to Fluval stratum, and what I was thinking is, should I just put everything out of the tank, make new aquascape and than put 60% of water back, so on the next day all the fish? Or some different way. Thanks!
Hey MJ.. the DIY CO2 system i use runs well for the first 3 days and then I have to frequently shake the bottle for an adequate flow of CO2... is there an easier way to get an adequate dose of CO2 from a DIY system, that lasts 7-10 days? Thank you:-)
Hey MJ, prachtige tank hoor. Complimenten!! Denk je dat het mogelijk is de Cichliden/tetra habitant te combineren met garnalen. Ik ga binnenkort ook starten met een nieuwe build en dan met de scaperline 60. Jou video heeft mij iig geïnspireerd dankjewel. Fijne avond! Rico
Hi MJ. All the way from England here and loving your videos. I live near your good friends from Horizon Aqautics In Newton Aycliffe. My go to shop. I’m new to Aqua scaping but I was wondering all your aquariums there look well planted and the plants have grown so well. Do you CO2 inject all of them?
Great tutorial as always @MJAquascaping! Good explanation, setup and honest. One question though if I may. If I understood you correctly you use aquasoil and powder only here. This inadvertently leads to high nutrient build up during the first month as you explain. My question then would be: why not use less aquasoil instead? And rely primarily on liquid fertilizer which has better dosage capability and plants mainly take up nutrients via the water column as far as I understand. Curious on your insights here. Cheerio Dolf
Amazing to see the transformation of this tank from start to now! So beautiful already! Question: If I have a low-tech setup with no CO2, is it possible for rotalas and other stem plants to achieve the same density and color as a tank with CO2 if I use a strong light and good substrate + fertilizer? (also trimming plants) Thanks!
Density yes, but it will take a bit of time. Color might be a bit more tricky because strong light without CO2 is a recipe for algae. So vibrant greens should be just fine, but really red rotalas for example will be difficult.
I'm liking the progress of the tank and I appreciate the updates on your CO2 injection and the air pump idea. I feel like inline injection has helped my tank more so than the ceramic disc method. The cichlids are some beautiful looking fish. Do Cichlids eat shrimp and snails? Any reason you decided not to incorporate those animals?
I see you use “tesa” glue to fix with cotton (i think?) the wood to the rock. Do you use just a regular superglue or is it the one special for aquascape? Thank you for your answer! :-)

Tank looks absolutely stunning. Its making me want to rescape my 4ft. I can't have delicate plants as my severums and macaw cichlid destroy them 😂
