Fred. Thank you for the great videos. I second the earlier comment regarding the absence of the Tomcat from the Grumman Cat flight. However seeing the F7F eased the sting.
If I remember correctly, years ago at Miramar the Flight of the Cats did include a F14 Tomcat. I am always amazed at how fast the old warbirds can fly and how slow the jets can.
Those aircraft that you called Hornets, are actually EA-18G Growlers, the dedicated Carrier Electronic Attack derivative of the basic Super Hornet airframe.
@@martinrps13 Many years ago I was in Virginia Beach under the flight path of NAS Oceana. Phantom IIs I think. Someone complained about the noise and an old man said "If you couldn't hear that sound you would have to learn Russian ". Now it's different planes and more likely Arabic or Chinese but it is still just as true: that is not noise. That is the sound of freedom.
I've often thought could that be done, convert a Buchon so that it has a more authentically Bf 109-like cowling, even if you can't just find a DB605 off the shelf to put in. Glad to see that someone has managed to
Another great day at Oshkosh! Thanks Mr Johnsen for another wonderful video! As always God bless you and yours and thanks again for everything you do! God bless the USA!!! 👍😊🇺🇸😊🇺🇸
I recall in 1972 being at Fort Dix adjacent to McGuire AFB) and doing Company PT at the approach end of a runway when a C5 came in. We were all in awe, and several recruits of lower intelligence from large cities not accustomed to anything not gang related got up and ran away from the approaching plane. Funny as hell, The DIs freaked! That aircraft was SO huge, loud, going SO slow while maybe 100' overhead.... I just laid back from situps and enjoyed watching the show....
Well, considering that they're mourning the passing of Tom P., so what do you want? Do you want them to just ignore his passing all together, and tarnish his memory by focusing on the show only? Or, how about letting them do both things at once, and stop complaining about it.
The U-2 is the loudest I've ever heard on takeoff, they almost always go 45>60+ deg up and at full power. Good music (Mountain King) for the F-35 ballet (and I'm not a music fan at airshows)
Amazing that the FA18s and F35 can fly slow enough to stay in formation with the WWII aircraft. Bet they were happy to break off and speed up a little.
9:20 - I have the very great privilege of helping to build F-35s at Lockheed Martin. I love the job! I also love that this video shows it flying with a P-51, my favorite airplane. My job at Lockheed is enabling me to be able to fly a dual-control Mustang at Stallion 51 Corp. in Florida someday soon.
Lil was briefly at nearby Appleton, and has moved on to Minnesota on tour. You got the best of the Cat Flight that I was able to capture; this is a big space to cover! Thanks, as always!
Thanks for watching and commenting. We're guessing you did not read the text on the UA-cam video page, describing the few critical times when ambient audio is unusable.
I don't think the dragon lady could land for the lack of chase cars.... The F4U's were more impressive than the jets flying in formation with them.... just my humble opinion...
I'm surprised the F-35 was able to make an appearance...considering it's horrible mission ready record. Apart from its advanced weapons systems, it will go down in military history as the single biggest waste of money in DoD history.
That Allison 109 is pure disrespect and idiocy all in one. I have never been so harsh on any resto project in my life but this is as batty for aviation heritage as woke politics is for world peace.
It originally had a Merlin. Since an airworthy DB605 would probably cost several million, if you could find one, an Allison modified to look more like the original seems a tolerable compromise
@@AndreiTupolev You'll never get that unique growl that the DB produces, the Allisons' sound like whispy farts by comparison. Tell you what, If someone starts making 80% Me-109s' with inverted V-1710s' I will give them full marks. Given the projected world economy such ventures may become realistic, to keep the real warbirds safely grounded for prosperity and no further mutations from happening.

3:42.....would be lovely if this shot could have been held a wee bit longer so that we could enjoy seeing them sit together.
The climb out of the Dragon Lady....WOW!
Amazing video of amazing aircraft - thanks for putting this together!
Fred. Thank you for the great videos. I second the earlier comment regarding the absence of the Tomcat from the Grumman Cat flight. However seeing the F7F eased the sting.
You are always welcome! And, yes, a Tigercat is a thing of beauty.
Watched many a U-2 take off and land while stationed at Bien Hoa Air Base (68-69). Straight up on take off, sounded like a Banshee coming in.
really devastating that the Tomcat cant be on the Cat formation, also hilarious how the announcer called the U-2 a high altitude "research" aircraft
There actually is a a U2 doing meteorology research over Kansas and Oklahoma! I’m not sure if this is that same U2 but it’s an interesting use for it!
I suppose you could call gathering info on the enemy “research” 🤣
There is a version of the U-2 that conducts said missions; the ER-2.
@@thebigfisher7 What you're describing is NASA's ER-2, which is based on the U-2S.

Nice job! I was there Sunday thru yesterday, and the weather was beautiful, the crowd was large, and the aircraft were spectacular‼️
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Grumman family video was priceless. Thank you, as always, for your tireless work. 👍
You are always welcome!
I was there yesterday! Awesome!
You know it's a classy event when the Dragon Lady shows up.
Great videos of the AirVenture 2022 so far, Fred. Thanks
Glad you like them!
Terrific....Grummans, Corsairs, Hornets, Me109s, U-2....who could ask for anything more? Thanks again.
the erikson "109" conversion blew my mind,,
Yes -- remarkable looking, isn't it?

@@johnosbourn4312 I did see a single seat Hornet, didn't I???
@@johnosbourn4312 You are correct, both are two seat Growlers...I stand corrected!
The F-35 taking off full afterburner makes a hell of a noise. One of the loudest events at the show.
Most powerful single engine fighter jet ever made. So I’m not surprised it’s so loud
Most annoying noise ever

Brilliant choice of Hall of the Mountain King with the F-35 display, timed perfectly for the final break at the end 😋

Nice camera work!👍👍

Real superhuman steady hands to be able to track fast moving objects and not making me nauseous 👍👍👏😄

Always enjoy watching the Oshkosh Air Shows, in my opinion, the background music does not do much for the video
We know we will never please everyone with every editing choice, but happy you are watching Airailimages just the same!
I haven't seen a F35 demo yet. I'm sorry I missed this year, it's already looking awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Any word on if the bf109s will fly at all?
They are not scheduled to fly during AirVenture, unfortunately.

5:01 the U2 is super loud when taking off but they took it easy here
Your videos keep getting better and better. 👍
Thank you very much!
Is there anything experimental left of EAA? Where are the homebuilts?
Great conversion of a Spanish 109 back into a German ME-109.
The Spanish 109s had an upright RR engine and looked ugly.
This G10 / Buchon also has an upright Allison V12

About the Warbird sticker you advertise above.... You don't have the dimensions listed. How big is it?
The sticker based on the US star insignia is overall 5 inches wide.
