+Jane Marie Thanks! That's just the policy of the entity that runs some of the bridges and tunnels in the city. Yes Manhattan is part of New York City. If you want to see more NYC you might enjoy this video 14-13 New York City Tour Dusk to Dark
This is were I am from I love it here it was just the first time I went out some were and got on the wite stone bridge it was amazing and exciting to see the sunset and the big bridge in loved it so much.
Nice ride! Loved the view of the NYC skyline just right before you had to shut off the camera- that sucks you can't film the tunnels- but wow- nice ride and awesome tune to go with it! NYC really impresses me with the space, size and how they managed to fit freeways in there!
Really awesome! I would've loved to see more of NY. Even though it's very congested on some occasions, there's a lot worth filming. Still looking forward to upcoming cities and areas on your trip!
Thanks, I have one more leaving NYC next Monday. yes it is a very difficult place to film due to congestion and things that have camera restrictions, I do what I can.
***** Good luck with that. the V-N Br I believe also has a no camera policy. I think I've seen the same sign shown here as you approach the bridge or at least on the loop ramps getting onto the bridge. I wonder how they can really enforce it. The tolls are all EZPass, and they don't stop and inspect your vehicle, and if the camera is small enough, they'd never notice anyway.
You must do the westbound drive on the Long Island Expressway to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel on an afternoon when standard time comes back into effect, often around 4:30-5:30 pm. The view of Manhattan with the great majority of building lights on is truly one of the most spectacular urban views in the world.
+The Wooly Minecart I live in Atlanta so that would be hard and quite frankly, I-95 in CT is one of my least favorite roads, so no, that's not something I'd be interested in doing but thanks anyway.
Freewayjim Even though my Mets lost in the world series this year, they'll get it next year and be called 2016 World Series Champions? Can't complain about that!
Whoever confused with New York's State Speed limits here they are... Upstate New York & Vicinity: 55 - 65 MPH New York City Region: 50 MPH Long Island: 55 MPH BTW Great video on Queens Jim. I always hang out in Roosevelt Avenue when I come to NYC every once in awhile. 495 is a great interstate in Long Island. Always driving on that freeway.
Fantastic drive, I have a riddle, How do you know when your driving on New York highways? When your vehicle starts bouncing every 100 ft.(lol) Seriously, I wish DOT would even out the pavement at the interchanges and various sections of the highway to make the drive more pleasurable. Had to have my suspension changed too many times due to the road ways. Great Video FreewayJim...
New York traffic, nothing like it anywhere. I live here in New Orleans, but I'm originally from Long Island. So this video was like going back home. Excellent looking video. The music could have been better. Like The Ramones who are from Queens originally. Or any other NY musician or band. Other than all that, it was still great to see. Thanx for posting this.
Thanks...the song was playing during part of the ride, I thought it worked well. LA traffic is much worse, more and bigger roads are clogged.. So the Ramones would be better? I think their music is awful...I know I'll never please everyone with any song I choose, it is what it is. Billy Idol was basically based out of NYC at the time so that counts as far as I'm concerned.
why does new york have camera restrictions on some of their tunnels and/or bridges? it kinda doesnt make sense but then again its probley for security reasons. :( but other than that good video!
4:30 I'm calling this unconstitutional! Why would they make such an unfair law? This doesn't make any sense! Luckily, there are a few videos of the tunnel that you can check out. Great video, Jim! How many more NYC videos left?
More than likely 9.11.01 brought these restrictions as NYPD and other officials were/are antsy about people filming important transportation structures that could be used for targets. It's a shame, but a reality in this modern society we are a part of.
Rick's Travelogue The fact I think is a shame is nobody protest things such as this, so whatever they decide is final. We have lost a lot of freedoms in the disguise of safety , and as long as nobody speaks up will continue to lose more.
Jesse Frost That's really hard to tell considering I'm not in the other cities very often....I'll say where I live in Atlanta is pretty fast as is Nashville. Charlotte is actually pretty slow, lots of left lane hogs who won't get out of you way, no other city really strikes me as having an inordinate amount of slow drivers. NYC is slower due to the nature of the roads and traffic volume but I don't think that's an indictment of the people.
hello Freewayjim . What happen if you don't want to pay the tollway? I live in C.A.B.A (_stands for autonomus city of good air/Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires_) Argentina, in all tollways you can refuse to pay after some minutes. of course it's a headache to do so and maybe they let you pass. PD: i live in "good air", i can't believe my city is called literally good air. there is also "the money" _la plata_ and "Sea of money" _Mar del plata_ city
I know you to ride by ballparks. Citi Field was to your right at 1:47. If you are up this way again a good ride would be exit 13B from Whitestone Exp right by Citi Field to Grand Central Parkway by LaGuardia Airport over Triboro Bridge to Major Deegan right by Yankee Stadium. But this was a good ride also. Manhattan Skyline can't be beat.
Yep, I saw Citii Field in the distance, I'll probably use the GCP if I am in this area again but I purposely wanted to get the skyline coming west in good lighting and traffic conditions for this video.
***** Well LaGuardia is domestic while JFK is international so that's why JFK handles double the passengers naturally. I guess LaGuardia is more densely packed and has more flight delays and layovers.
@FreewayJim Actually, I have seen videos of some UA-camrs videoing the Midtown Tunnel despite the sign & didn't get pulled over. So, you are allowed to film the Midtown Tunnel. The MTA ir DHS can't ban photography or videoing NYC Bridges and Tunnels. That violates the 1st Amendment, Freedom of the Press.
That doesn't mean you are allowed to, it just means those other people didn't get caught. I had a friend get called into Homeland security by a civilian for taking pics of an old RR trestle in Queens a while back so I'll pass.
Freewayjim I know with i-pass transponders, there aren't any kind of monthly fees or anything, and illinois tolls are half price with it (plus you can breeze through while driving). using one on ez-pass/etc will be normal car toll cost. Other ez-pass transponders I think they do have monthly fees of some sort. But yeah, when I got my i-pass it was $40, and all of those $40 can go towards tolls. I don't need it much, but it saves money and time.
Wow...you were in my neck of the woods, Jim. I'm pretty much always on the Whitestone Expwy, so I was looking to see if you might have passed me lol. I didn't see my car, though. P.S. I'm always embarrassed to see videos of horrible NYC roads since the rest of the country's roads look almost flawless. The Van Wyck is probably one of the worst roads in America.
Edit: I don't know why I thought you connected with the Van Wyck. Regardless, these are still some of the worst roads in the country. Glad to see you're around here, though. Enjoy NYC!
Thankyou . Your video was a Big help to me !! How to get from the Whitestone Bridge To the Midtown Tunnel .........
Awesome! glad it was helpful to you.

Thanks, yes NYC 's highway system definitely has some interesting and unique features.
Well you did what you could. We don't want to unveil the secret of narrow, shoulderless freeways to anyone, wouldn't we?
LOL, it's too bad I could not film in the Midtown Tunnel, it's very bright in there and would have made for a good video.
What an awesome panorama. Great weather too.
Really awesome! I would've loved to see more of NY. Even though it's very congested on some occasions, there's a lot worth filming. Still looking forward to upcoming cities and areas on your trip!

Nice video once again, the ending, such a sign of the times. literally.
Thank you!
Great channel.
Thank you very much!

Most 1980's musics are EPIC!
Awesome! Looking forward to the ones to come!
Thanks!
Accomplishing my dreams to live in my favorite city ever! Dream city NYC 🗽
To Charles Ball (No reply button), it's not all of the bridges and tunnels, just the ones operated by the MTA, of which the Midtown Tunnel is one.
+The Wooly Minecart I have no interest in filing CT-15.

BTW Great video on Queens Jim. I always hang out in Roosevelt Avenue when I come to NYC every once in awhile. 495 is a great interstate in Long Island. Always driving on that freeway.
Never thought NYC be this breath taking to see! Gonna live there probably in two or three years?
Fantastic drive, I have a riddle, How do you know when your driving on New York highways? That was a fun ride Jim - enjoyed it.
Thank you!
NYC is my dream home!
This was also another very enjoyable video.
The JFK airport is spectacular from the view toward downtown!

Another great ride from the Freewayjim Express
Thanks!
Great song for NYC
why does new york have camera restrictions on some of their tunnels and/or bridges? it kinda doesnt make sense but then again its probley for security reasons. :( but other than that good video!
Thanks, most likely security reasons post 9-11
This music kind of fits this video since Steve Stevens (the guitar and bass player) is from Brooklyn. :)
Fun fact: NYC's highest Speed Limit is 50.
You're right! did not realize that until you just mentioned it.
it's 55
it's 55 or 60
+lil youtuber nope, STATE is 65 but CITY is 50; used to live there
4:30 I'm calling this unconstitutional! Why would they make such an unfair law? This doesn't make any sense!
Luckily, there are a few videos of the tunnel that you can check out.
Great video, Jim! How many more NYC videos left?
Thanks! There's one more NYC video before we head west.

Rick's Travelogue The fact I think is a shame is nobody protest things such as this, so whatever they decide is final. We have lost a lot of freedoms in the disguise of safety , and as long as nobody speaks up will continue to lose more.
Welcome to Mets City!
How did you disassemble your camera before entering the tunnel?
My son riding with me can take it down in less than 30 seconds. I would not have filmed this route if I were alone.
Freewayjim They have the same signs on the George Washington Bridge. I bet if you had a EZPass no one would have even noticed. ;-)
Upeedina Lamb I have never seen those signs at the GWB.
They say no one's ever beaten the Van Wyck...but you came pretty close, it appears.
FreewayJIM question: What cities east of the MissRiver do you believe have the "faster" drivers? Slower drivers? haha thanks alot!
Jesse Frost That's really hard to tell considering I'm not in the other cities very often....I'll say where I live in Atlanta is pretty fast as is Nashville. If you don't pay the toll expect a hefty ticket that in retrospect would make you wish you had paid the toll.
I know you to ride by ballparks. Citi Field was to your right at 1:47. What song do you use for your intro?
It's an Apple Loop called "Chelsea Loft" the full version is here on YT. ua-cam.com/video/PkOgToM-3V4/v-deo.html
What's the music of the beginning of the Intro
That's an Apple Loop called "Chelsea Loft", the full version is here on UA-cam.
Doo wa doo wa doo wa diddy
Just got off the train to New York City!
NYC is a lot bigger than Atlanta and Chicago
+Anthony Bryant ^ Master of the obvious
Freewayjim Uh huh
***** JFK airport is way better!
+Anthony Bryant (Star) But JFK consistently rates among the worst of US airports. LaGuardia is even worse.
***** Well LaGuardia is domestic while JFK is international so that's why JFK handles double the passengers naturally. I guess LaGuardia is more densely packed and has more flight delays and layovers.
Have you ever been to Queens east of I-678? That's where I'm from.
Yes, about 10 years ago I took I-295 to I-495 but have not explored the area off the expressways.
Why photos & videos are forbidden ?
NYC is my favorite place to live, not Los Angeles!
You got that right, LA sucks big fat cock
@FreewayJim Actually, I have seen videos of some UA-camrs videoing the Midtown Tunnel despite the sign & didn't get pulled over. So, you are allowed to film the Midtown Tunnel. @FreewayJim Why did they put up that stupid NYC law that bans people from videoing the Midtown Tunnel anyway?
@@ryanearles2024 To curb terrorism I suppose. The same signs are visible at some of the bridges as well.
good video
Is the beginning clip I75?
Nvm I saw a sign that it was
Wow I am sure that sign is post 911.
The GREAT CITY of NYC
I thought that veranzo narrows bridge would be the name not white stone 🤔
That's because I did not cross the Verrazaon Narrows Bridge in this video.
Freewayjim oh
Could make this to Mobile Devices?
Sorry, nothing I can do about that.
are you ever going to get an ez-pass?
Probably not...why? for a few days every couple of years?
Freewayjim I know with i-pass transponders, there aren't any kind of monthly fees or anything, and illinois tolls are half price with it (plus you can breeze through while driving). using one on ez-pass/etc will be normal car toll cost. litrojan Thanks, it's always a thrill to cruise around NYC, the older expressways have somewhat of a nostalgic charm to them.
Maryland

fast & furious !
fyi usually queens residents take the train to mahattan just to let you know!
I ASSSUMED YOU WOULD PLAY BILLY JOEL MUSIC AS YOUR THEME!
