The MK41 VLS addition changes the ships capabilities dramatically. Very good decision.
IF our London political/Civil Service establishment vermin don't still wriggle out of fitting the 32 x Mk41 cells during actual build and confect a lying excuse to complete the first ships with Mk41 NOT included i.a.w. the usual "F.F.B.N.W." lie. Which in fact is still possible.
She will be a welcome addition to the fleet, and especially now they are being fitted with a 32 cell Mk.41 VLS not to mention the Sonar 2170 ‘Surface Ship Torpedo Defence’ systems, and the Kongsberg deck launched anti-ship ‘Naval Strike Missile’ with latent land attack capability.
Going to be one Hell of a ship……..

Can that design of bow can still allow for a sonar housing? No stern hatch evident for a submarine detection accoustic cable system. Build the platform first and then install the teeth from whats available on the market when fitting out - the scope and capabilities of weapon systems change very quickly.
Apparently a bow mounted sonar won't be fitted, will use towed array and possibly hull mounted sonar similar to the Iver Huitveldt frigates its based on, the type 26 is the sub hunter, this is a cheap multi role frigate more aimed at showing of force.
who is going to sail it ?
Still takes too long to build.

Britain needs to grow The Royal Navy fast due to the tension in the middle East and also with Russia. Building huge frigates takes way to long and a more time efficient solution would be to build smaller, cheaper corvettes and once the R.N. has the numbers then build larger ships. Yes currently there is a lack of man power for such ships but investment in recruitment would generate the required numbers.
Only another 10 years and it will be finished. Yes it provides employment but is that it’s main role ?
yeah, because when you are in the fight of your life its nice to know your ship is "efficient"...lol
