I spent many, many hours listening to Alan in the 50's. Yes that is him but this whole audio track needs to be slowed down. It sounds like a 45RPM record played at 50RPM or more.
Al Grellet They ALL took money, it was not considered illegal until congress held their hearings. Disk Jockeys were paid next to nothing they needed money on the sick, they claimed it on their taxes. Do a little research before you stupidly point fingers. Dick Clark made 1000 times more than anyone
Alan was certainly a pioneer, but he played a lot of crap. He accepted payola to play certain records and, since he had pretty good taste in music, you pretty much know when he was playing one of those pay-for-play clunkers.
Wonderful audio archive of Rock 🎸 and Roll early day magic.
Damn Jackie Wilson , I listened to it exactly how people listened to it in 1957. Good stuff
Well.... the recording is a *bit* sped up too much, but it's OK
I lived by the radio when he was on wins.the greatest.a very big part of my youth.its a rotten shame what they did to him.
Thanks, these are precious bits.
...this is WEXF radio...filling in for the Moondog today...with 15 minutes of 1957..
These negative comments are stupid . The man brought us great music . All the dj did crazy shit . It was the norm
All that happened was that he had to pay about 300 so it wasn’t really that much but impacted his career tremendously
That's Buddy and The Crickets doing Maybe Baby...sped up a speed and a half
did y'all know it was Alan Freed who gave Johnny Rivers his name???????!!!!! interesting huh?????!!!!!!!

Actually this came from the 1957 Album "Rock Around the Block"
Radio Luxembourg air check. Recorded or played back too fast. It IS FREED. Reposters or somebody, fix the speed of this bit of history
Is this the chipmonks audition tape????
Is this actually Alan Freed or was it one of his fill in's?
Sounds like Alan Freed on Helium, way too fast

@@bobbypaluga4346 And Clark escaped the Payola scandal with barely a scar.
sounds more like Dick Biondi
