St Thomas Christians opposed latinization and Pope was let known. Pope ordered the Portuguese to preach elsewhere and they settled in Goa. Meanwhile, in Kerala, St Thomas Christians got exposed to Orthodox-Catholic Schism and the church in India also got split. Do you logically there is no much difference between orthodox and catholic sides other than filioque clause. The mass that St Thomas Christians followed was the mass from 1st century in Aramaic, compiled by Addai and Mari, disciples of St Jude Thaddeus. Since St Thomas had mentioned to keep your relationship with Peter‘s church, and since Peter had started the church in Rome as well as in Antioch, and since Antiochian side began to diminish in 16th century, most (about 90%) St Thomas Christians aligned with Church of Rome. Some of the Catholic I've known and other denomination didn't believe that Jesus is God but believed that He is only the Son of God. Jesus wanted unity not chaos. The heresies caused chaos. When I became a thinking protestant I wondered why are there so many denominations? The answer is they were created out of the imagination of fallible men. Ephesians 4:5-6, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. I am a Catholic Christian.
