@@lauriecarson6483 whatever you are as a parent. It's very difficult not to let your preconceived ideas become suppressive onto your children. You see that in Lorelai too. It's a very new trail us letting our children be individuals and adapt to their path

I have no idea why people like Emily? She feels like Lorelai’s obligated to tell her what’s going on in her life. She acts like she’s such a great mother and isn’t overly critical of what choices Lorelai make.
I understand that Emily is really pushy over what she feels is right for her daughter. Having said this, I can see that all her criticism and annoyances she displays, comes from love. This is what I like about her. She shows love the way she was taught. And becomes very frustrated when Lorelei doesn’t appreciate it. And the best part to me is when in A year in the life, she grows out of it. At least I see it that way
Her approach may not be the best, but she means well. I took it as her being genuinely curious about her daughter’s life and as soon as Lorelei puts up resistance, (out of habit based on their history), she pushes further, as the other commenter said. As far as people “liking her, “ yes, she certainly has her unlikeable moments, but then so do Lorelei and Rory (MANY, in fact-they can be super entitled, have messy love lives, and more often than not, Lorelei doesn’t even try make it work with Emily). I enjoy Emily cause she is imo the one most interesting to watch AND the one with the most growth throughout the course of the show.

It drives me nuts that they never hang their coats up. It doesn’t seem realistic that Emily would let them sit on their coats in the living room knowing her standards with the maids…
