My late grandfather was a massive Dean Martin fan, and he was a great singer himself. When my mother was in hospital he went to visit her, and on the way out visited the hospital radio room, where he sang this song across the announcement system to the entire hospital lol

Dean Martin is the best singer in the world, I know Frank was great , but for me Dino was the one and only , a brilliant easy singing voice opened the mouth and out came the voice of the best crooner , country singer and any kind of singer that's ever been!

"I matched the man behind the bar for the jukebox..." Years ago, on a quiet day, a bartender would offer a customer at the bar to "match" him for the jukebox. This meant the customer would usually put up 2-bits to play songs, as songs generally were 10 cents a piece or 3 for 25 cents. Then the customer and bartender would roll dice or cut cards. If the customer beat the bartender, the bartender would "match" the quarter, dollar or dime and the customer gets to play twice as many songs. Customer doubles his song money. Don't cost the bartender anything either as he gets his "match" back when he opens the jukebox coin box at the end of the night plus the customer's. BUT...the happy customer then ends up sitting at the bar to hear to all his songs play out AND while he is sitting there he buys a few more drinks for himself and maybe the other friends who are with him. Pretty slick way to keep customers happy and the bar in business on a slow day.

I first heard this song on a jukebox around about the 70's. A group of 4 or 5 of us had been assigned to do a survey in the west end of the city which took the whole of the day. We called in at the local pup for a quick lunch and somebody put their 'nickel' in, and out came "LITTLE OLD WINE DRINKER ME". That was it! I' ve been a 'fan' ever since.

Dean for me was the performer of the pack, smooth with a little twinkle in the eye................. the others were all great, Sammy could pull some great impressions............. Frank had a bit of power in his voice, and of course the films and his reputation made him the icon we know today. I guess the leader of the pack.
Still love these old classics.......... timeless.

Something effortlessly charming about Dino,s voice! Biggest irony in music history! The wine drinking which kept his larynx in fine tune eventually rotted his liver! He sat in a cafe one afternoon looking incredibly giant, his fans couldn't bear to look! His legacy is timeless romantic music!

This song is very special to me, I was a friend and co worker of Hank Mills, the author of this song, we were working one Sat. night when he wrote this song, he let me have some input on the lines, however, I did not write any of them. Bill Towry Nashville, Tn.
