We had an alto in my choir who almost always got the solos because she was hands down one of the best singers there. She didn't hit high notes, her voice was just absolutely gorgeous. This takes me back, I loved choir. We had show choir groups at our highschool and I miss it terribly. Love that they were so harsh on the sopranos in this cause it’s absolutely true 😂
As a musical theater kid I can testify that we take making everything into a song to another level. We can literally make a song out of basically anything and it almost always is from some musical.
I love theater too! And I love singing bc I'm in choir. But I've never done a musical bc I sound so baddd🤣. It's fine though I perfer acting while talking😅😅. Great job being in musical theater though!!!!
I remember one time my friend and I were in choir for 4 years and on my last day I said “ya know I don’t think I ever figured how to breath properly anyways” and she says “yeah I never did either” and that was one of the last interactions we had edit: dang thanks for the like people that was unexpected
I feel 90% of these, except that I was the _alto_ who could make the high notes and couldn't stop drowning out the entire soprano section because they refused to open their jaws more than an inch. My choir director boosted the age limit a couple years so I could stay in our otherwise-pretty-pathetic youth choir longer.
we only have 3 guys in our choir, one of them isn’t even there to sing he’s just a teacher helper who isn’t even in our grade (different periods have different grades)
We had this joke in my middle school. Band was for the smart/actually good kids, Choir was for the people too lazy to play an instrument, and Art was for the people who were too lazy to sing or play an instrument. Those were the only 3 electives available in my middle school.
Lol mine is a performing arts school and our whole thing is art is where the cool people are, piano is where the smart people are, theatre people is what everyone thinks we are so we have to make them seem as likable as possible, Choir is forgettable but we're kinda just always sad, And all the other instrument oriented ones are kinda just well liked and talented.
I was a second alto- the lowest voices in our choir. Sopranos had all the interesting parts and were constantly showing off. We were just holding one long note for ten seconds and then another. Choir teacher be like "You're the most useful part of the choir, you create the base tone of the song." Yeah, we know ☹️
Now that you mention it, I had the same problem. There were too many flutes my 8th grade year, so my band director asked me (then 3rd chair flute) to learn the French horn instead. She seriously asked me after the Christmas parade if I thought I could pick it up for concert season and sent me home with the instrument and music book. When I was confident enough to bring it to class a few weeks later, I found out I'd been playing everything an octave too low. Then as a sophomore in high school, my choir director asked me (a soprano 1) to sing with the altos because he couldn't hear them and he wanted me to give them a boost. Never mind the fact that I could barely hit some of those low notes. Fun times. Lol
I'm a flute and we NEVER get the attention in my school. Sure, we get a solo, but the solo is literally the same thing as everyone elses. And nobody can hear us.
Omg that’s me 😂🤣😂 and I’m a guy. Everyone hates me for it because they’re like “can you not show off your vocals, damn you a tenor but sings higher than Mariah her self”.
Gacha HP That does seem like something that would get annoying very quickly. I feel like people would just only see you as a singer and not as the other talents and potentially career choices you might want to do later in life or are more passionate about. But at least you can sing without sounding like a dying whale. 😅
Bro legit. My freshman year we had like 10 sopranos and 6 altos and one of the sopranos was one of the super loud upperclassmen soloists. She threw off the whole balance of everything and just remembering it is awful.
We had a choir director in middle school who quote sent the stronger voiced kids ‘on vacation’ because the section was relying on that kid to carry the section’s notes. Usually it entailed having the kid shut up and sit down while the rest of the section kept singing the same measures over and over again until they sounded loud enough to please the director who would then bring back the loud kid from before.
I'm not a choir kid but I understand all of this as for me in elementary school as we were getting set for a program this is how it would be a lot of the time. Mainly for church programs when the little kids would be singing. I was and still am the kid who wants to go far enough with my singing but is terrified of singing infront of others and if I did it was so quiet hardly anyone could hear me sing.
My choir had to sing a Japanese piece once (I’m japanese) and oh my it did not go well... like the teacher teaches it incorrectly, the lyrics are weird to say the least, none of us knew the meaning and our vowel shapes were all different on this one note 😂
@Yui Yui Omg so true expect for Japanese we did Maori my teacher was being so ignorant and irratating and she said them incorrect 😂 she was like “AutU KatheKitia” she is the dumbest person i know..
雪 woohoo! Another Japanese person. Interesting when my director puts the accent on the wrong syllable and I have to explain that’s not where it’s at, then look at the music and see there’s a crescendo there - look at the composer, it’s an American name
I'm a 9th grader in choir with 7 total tenor/basses. And you'd be surprised to hear that our choir teacher yells at us sopranos and the Altos saying that 7 guys shouldn't be louder than 30 girls lol. They also sound amazing. I'm so surprised because they are all 9th graders and they're rlly skilled.
Sparkly Channie Why do you have to be nasty about it? People can’t help what range their in. It’s based on their voices. You act like they can control it. I’m out of breath when I sing low.
@Laura Cross loves anime I didn't mean to offend anyone! I'm very sorry if I did! I was just speaking of personal experience, I know a lot of wonderful sopranos with beautiful voices who are really good at singing. I was just saying that in the choir I was in, most of them(the sopranos) weren't very good singers, and that's fine (You can improve if you want to) But I just really don't like it when people think they are the best and look down on you, when they are just simply not as good as they think. So I'm sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to.
I was the soprano that somehow managed to get the notes correct but they were up an octave or two and everyone just said that I shouldn’t even be considered a soprano 1 so I got my own section which is a soprano -1 😂
We had this Lion King Medley to sing, and we had to sing "Ingonyama nengwe namabala" for the beginning of the circle of life and while we were practicing I accidentally said Ingoryama ningee namabele and the boy next to me just stared and said "You'll figure it out" And I did
I did this chorus part during a medley in school and ive never forgotten the actual words said my mother says it wrong on purpose just to mess with me now😅

We had our bass singer leave the choir and we had only two tenors. It was a class of 7 altos and fove sopranos.
Alto here. The same thing happened to me and some other girls when I was in school.
Till they have to hit a D-2 or lower 😂
I'm low enough to be part of the boys group too, sometimes I have to drop an octave on the alto part so I don't sound like I'm wheezing

Yes
Yep. So true. But my family is the one who does it in my life😆
My family jokes that, out life is a musical in our house 😝
I love theater too! And I love singing bc I'm in choir. But I've never done a musical bc I sound so baddd🤣. It's fine though I perfer acting while talking😅😅. Great job being in musical theater though!!!!
YUSSS!!
I remember one time my friend and I were in choir for 4 years and on my last day I said “ya know I don’t think I ever figured how to breath properly anyways” and she says “yeah I never did either” and that was one of the last interactions we had

I'm dead😂 I'm in art, choir, and I was in band at some point😂

Lol mine is a performing arts school and our whole thing is
art is where the cool people are,
piano is where the smart people are,
theatre people is what everyone thinks we are so we have to make them seem as likable as possible,
Choir is forgettable but we're kinda just always sad,
And all the other instrument oriented ones are kinda just well liked and talented.

"Neither do altos"

Well, I would say: Yes straight out savage. Except that imma alto
Damn thats mean
that’s me alright
But its true
I was a second alto- the lowest voices in our choir. Sopranos had all the interesting parts and were constantly showing off. We were just holding one long note for ten seconds and then another.

Me: *a band kid* ...so y’all treat sopranos how the flutes are treated in band
Me: *a flute* ...fascinating...
Jennifer De Boor Theres only 6 French horns in my band, I’m the first chair. And for the flutes, there’s only 4 😬
@@bethtluangi2985 My 8th grade year, there were like 10 flutes and, after learning it, I was the only French horn.

This bring back so many memories. I chorus in the morning and it shock me that some of the students had that much energy in them around 8am.

Bro legit. My freshman year we had like 10 sopranos and 6 altos and one of the sopranos was one of the super loud upperclassmen soloists. She threw off the whole balance of everything and just remembering it is awful.
Cause I'm an Alto, and the sops will be screeching lmao, and our director is just like, "I need more Alto" 🥺
Megan or something YEP
ours is the opposite our school is full of altos so among all of the choir members only the 3 of us are sopranos and it's a real pain in the ass.
This actually made my day 😂😀
We had a choir director in middle school who quote sent the stronger voiced kids ‘on vacation’ because the section was relying on that kid to carry the section’s notes.

Me not being a choir kid but playing in a typical "bad" school orchestra, understanding everything...🤔😂
I love how most of these target the sopranos, or soprano 1. As an orchestra kid it's the equivalent of "violin 1"
However, the subreddit r/singing targets baritones.

honestly with county chorus i had to sing Japanese and as the whitest of white girls go 2:24 is the most accurate tik tok ever
My choir had to sing a Japanese piece once (I’m japanese) and oh my it did not go well...
like the teacher teaches it incorrectly, the lyrics are weird to say the least, none of us knew the meaning and our vowel shapes were all different on this one note 😂

雪 woohoo! Another Japanese person. Interesting when my director puts the accent on the wrong syllable and I have to explain that’s not where it’s at, then look at the music and see there’s a crescendo there - look at the composer, it’s an American name

They also sound amazing. I'm so surprised because they are all 9th graders and they're rlly skilled.
The struggle when the choir had more soprano.

I love this :D
Why are all of these so relatable😭✋
I relate to the Soprano things so much to the point I genuinely got my Chior teacher to agree to call the Sopranos “The Dog Whistles”
I was the soprano that somehow managed to get the notes correct but they were up an octave or two and everyone just said that I shouldn’t even be considered a soprano 1 so I got my own section which is a soprano -1 😂
