He was a real stand-up guy for the rest of the cast members on Gilligan's Island. He was the one who made sure that Mary Ann and the Professor were in the theme song.
They sang, "... and the rest" in the first season because they came up with the theme song before they were completely sure who all of the castaways would be.
@@peterpiper7441 That's because it wasn't originally known, who was going to be in the cast. There were different characters in the pilot episode, like a secretary named "Bunny," but they didn't work out; and they were eventually replaced by Sherwood Schwartz with the Professor (Roy Hinkley), and Maryanne Summers, essentially the "Dorothy" of the series from a small farm in Kansas. Sherwood Schwarz got the theme-song before he knew who was going to be in the final cast; since the original pilot had a really cheesy intro-song.
True gentlemen bob denver was never for one moment thought about himself only his fellow cast members ive seen many documentaries..interviews to back this. RIP
I have always loved Gilligan's Island since I was a little girl watching after school. I even had a crush on Bob Denver. Loved it then and still do to this dat.. Wished it had continued. I miss it so much. I wish he was still alive because I'd give anything to meet this wonderful man. I probably would have cried. May all the castaways who have passed RIP. Especially our recent loss of Russell Johnson (The Professor Roy Hinckley). And bless the remaining two Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) and Tina Louise (Ginger). May God bless them and hopefully I'll get to meet them someday. ♥ you all Gilligan's Island crew.
Bob Denver and Dawn Wells were being interviewed on Phil Donahue in the late 1990s and when Mr. Denver was asked about how silly some of the stories were he said once he told one of the writers that the particular episode they were doing was silly and the writer said--you haven't seen next week's show yet LOL!!
I Love Gilligan's Island, and The Castaways are awesome, I love it soo much I watch it over and over and over again, cause its that cool and funny, GILLIGAN 4EVER rip Bob Denver
I met Bob Denver in Boston, Massachusetts back in 1993 when I was a freshman at Boston University. He was signing his new book "Gilligan, Maynard & Me." I had a Granny Smith apple with me. The fans were singing the "G-I-double-L-I, G-A-N spells Gilligan." I obnoxiously corrected them by hollering, "His name is really Bob Denver." He just shook his head in disgust. He signed my book and I handed him the apple. Most fans don't realize that he played Maynard Krebs in "Dobie Gillis." Funny, I actually saw Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) as well around a year later, and snapped a photo of him for my photography class. Anyway, Bob seemed very laid-back and easy-going. I really enjoyed watching Gilligan's Island in the late 70's to even now. His goofiness still makes me crack up.
At the date of this interview, there were four surviving "Gilligan's Island" actors: Bob Denver (Willy Gilligan), Russell Johnson (Professor Roy Hinkley), Tina Louise (Ginger Grant) & Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers). As of today, there are just two surviving "GI" cast members: Tina Louise (Ginger) & Dawn Wells (Mary Ann). We're losing all our childhood heroes!!! R.I.P., Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schaefer & Russell Johnson. :'(
streetrace442 - I never saw Gilligan’s Island. He is Maynard G. Krebs. The “G” is for Walter.

It's amazing how a person as smart and intellectual as Bob Denver could endure Gilligan Island questions for forty years. If it were me, I'd be a pothead too.
BOB DENVER.... wherever you are right now,I hope your not giving the SKIPPER a hard time otherwise he'll hit you over the head with his cap...R.I.P to you and Alan Hale.Jr.
Does anyone remember Dusty's Trail with Bob Denver and Forrest Whitaker, it was about 7 people lost from a wagon train in the mid-west, almost a Gilligans Island spin off,
almost a copy of Gilligans Island... To bad about Russel Johnson and Dave Madden yesterday...watched them both when i was a kid back i could watch first runs of at least the Partridge Family...
Don't forget, that the minno flew apart with the glue that didn't hold and the boat flew apart.. and tried to make nails.. No iron.. love that show..!!! RIP Bob Denver.. aka Gilligan..

Besides the the fact that he was an *amazing* actor, he also was such a joy to *listen* to. I love the cast of Gilligan's Island. ♡

He is so humble and sweet.
I made a startling discovery that Bob Denver's pet turtle's name wasn't Herman.

It's a crime that Bob Denver never won an Emmy! A crime I say!
+jon “Curley” itiswhatitaintanditaintwhatitis It's a crime none of them did. They were much better than anything out there today.
Agreed
Agreed the fact they didn't is outrageous they were legendary for sitcoms back then
I find it very sad that they are passing...part of my childhood.
+Bob Silver / I Left Home by Greyhound, from Miami, Aug. 1964!!!! BEFORE the First Opening of Gil's Island!!!!
I was a faithful fan of the that show. I used to watch it every day after school.
Bob Denver is just terrific. Rosie O'Donnell is just frightening!!
He was one of my earliest TV crushes. So cute and so sweet.
Love him, rest well sir

Gilligan is a cool guy.
And Maynard G. Krebs was cool too- ("The Dobie Gillis Show").
I loved Bob Denver as a kid!

Still one of my all-time favorites!
Two icons from the great past. Bob Denver was a class act and a great guy!!!!!

RIP BOB. IT WAS THE BEST OF TIME'S.
Awesome actor!
Bob Denver would have been 83 years old in 2019
He was a very nice man . I met him at a book signing. I had that same tall figure on Rosie's desk. He signed it for me.
Gilligan will be loved forever: Rosie will go into the ash heap of history.
He was a decent guy, and that's so thoughtful AND Southern that his wife and him gifted pickles!!
I never felt old until Bob Denver died; now I feel very, very old....
truly so sweet of an interview
Love 'em all. Glad i have them on DVD.
"Gilligan's Island" is a bonafide guilty pleasure.

Alas, Dawn Wells has joined the other castaways in Heaven.
NOW, there's only one, "Ginger", Tina Louise.
Funny how no one remembers him as Maynard G. Krebs on the TV show "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis."
I do. Maynard could fit right into society today.
Because Dobie isn't on constantly like Gilligan....
Actually, I loved him on the 'Many loves of Dobie Gillis' too.
Hi, Im watching G.I. on METV now and just googled Bob Denver and I saw a clip of that show for the first time ever, pretty cool.

Bob is so sweet. I don’t think Rosie was ever big on having a pickle in her mouth for some reason. LOL
What a wonderful man he was.
Class act!
bob denver was junior on "far out space nuts". he was also on the alf episode "the ballad of gilligan's island" which aired on september 28 1987
With the passing of Russell Johnson today, I'm sure Gilligan is messing up his experiments up on that great Island in the sky...
And the Skipper is probably yelling...."OH GILLIGAN WILL YOU STOP MESSING AROUND WITH THINGS!!!"
Ha-ha! yes!
Maynard G.Grebs : ......." WORK !!!???".
When ever Dobie Gillis mentioned manual labor.
Days when Rosie was lovely & gracious.
I miss seeing Gilligan on TV. -R.I.P " little buddy"..:(
I used to pretend I was Gilligan as a kid. Lol. I miss Mr. Bob Denver.
I love how his voice is totally different.
I heard he was a heavy smoker :(

I hope someone saved that hat ! It should be in the smithsonian , along with Fonzies jacket and Archies chair !
