@@benhambley7820 he is using a mod that's how he does it. Try searching Heroes III HD mod and you might get what you want they added cool shortcuts in there
I remember when I first started playing when I was about 9 or 10. I would always just have one guy because I thought "why would I want to split my troops up? If I get attacked I'll lose". It never occurred to me that I could get resources faster, probably win with half my troops, scout the map etc.
The idea with hero chaining is that you don't split your troops. You move the same army around and have multiple heroes win battles with it on the same turn.
But on larger maps as you go deeper into other territory and your troops start to dwindle you either need to learn town portal to replenish your army or you need to have a hero chain to continue to supply your hero with fresh troops
Hero chaining is useful beyond even transporting troops. If you constantly have heroes at the ready, in positions on a map that are all within reach of each other, that gives you the ability to essentially do anything with your main without fear of losing tempo. This is because since you know that if ur main starts to dwindle on troops from casualties, you will always have heroes at the ready to feed ur hero whatever they need. The chain becomes even more powerful if the chaining heroes have estates, +350 gold, +1 resource/day, scouting, scholar, or resource generating artifacts. At that point you really get to dominate the map. I usually try to level all my side heroes with learning stones or mercenary camps, if available. So in case I need to defend they are at the ready. Having a strong hero presence also deters opponents from easily coming into ur territory.
This game just never gets old... I started to play this game when I was 9 and still pretty interested to play it over and over again. Thanks for your video!
hey chris i think this tutorial thing is awesome since most of this games difficulty for me comes from knowing where to send my heroes and how to distribute my troops in between my heroes
I think it's all depends on the map.. if you start from town that is in the middle of big area and alot of resources to take in immediate area, than hero chaining is almost a must, you can hire 8 heroes in day 1 if possible. But if there's not alot of resources in immediate area or the road is one directional, than hero chaining is pointless.
This is a video on hero chaining. Not on hero movement. For the sake of the leason he`s playing on noob difficulty. And you don`t leave anything behind. You leave them on the mules so that other heroes have maximum movement range.
This game is legend. Even though not a lot of people know this game, what you are showing is very helpful to make my childhood more excited. Not sure if you make this into series or anything but would love to follow up.
This is basic. How is this special? In impossible and hard creature difficulty when against AI, 1st step is scout. If area has a lot of gold for pickup, always hire early new heroes which has army. If bad scout and no resource, upgrade town hall. It is situational guys, the most effecient is always scouting. If you got gold, hire 1 Hero for primary/main, 1 for scouting, 1 for resource gathering. +350 gold heroes should be hire early if unavailable hire +1 resource hero like Sepiroth. Best early heroes is either +350 gold OR spell caster like solmyr (tower) or ciele (conflux) or firewall hero conflux.
Man, thanks! I've played heroes many times before, but never can understood how to play nice. Your videos helped me understand that simple things i never can see. Thanks
Great video. One problem I have is accurately determining monster stack strengths on the map, compared to my Hero army stacks. I tend to have way too much army power when I decide to clear a monster stack (which takes more time to build up than something more reasonable).
As you get better with the game you will be able to spot easy targets and also enemies that can significantly impact you and take half your army, as a beginner you should know which tier each creature is on, giving you an idea of their strength, as you get better knowing their speed is also a really big factor as it determines how far they move and where their turn is in comparison to your troops during battle
Few 1-4 Several 5-9 Pack 10-19 Lots 20-49 Horde 50-99 Throng 100-249 Swarm 250-499 Zounds 500-999 Legion 1000+ The more you play, the better you`ll estimate the stack strength compared to what you have, and to what you`ll have if you wait one more turn.
I do agree with Op, experience teaches us well. For beginners, pls refer to SUN tzu arts of war - "know yourself and your enemy, in a hundred battles youll never be defeated". Often times, in 1st week. Your initial hero and race determines factor how u progress in the game
It's nice to have a demonstration. The word "chaining" to me seemed more linear. As in having a hero that's 1 day out, another that is 2, etc. Having a demonstration helped to correct that misgiving in my head. Getting back into the game after many years away. I see you also play Civ 5 and lift weights. I think we'd get along splendidly in real life!
Unlikely, i dont recommend this tactic nor for effeciency. This is for Queen and below difficulty. Try 200% or impossible and hard creature settings. Youll be surprise can learn a lot from yourself discovering

what mod is that? saves up a lot of time by pressing a button to transfer troops rather than moving the cursor over and choosing which slot to add it to on the other hero!
I can respect the fact you uncovered more but you just spent 16k on heroes so now you won't be able to get your unicorn glade on week 1 without completely destroying the rest of your cash, making it so you wouldn't be able to afford capital for a long time (unless you get lots of chests). You're essentially slowing down your progress on weeks 2 and 3, especially if the map has harder units. Hero chain but do it sensibly. I crush people who hero chain like this on a small map. Follow the advice but make sure you do it efficiently too. Knowledge is power but so is gold early on
I agree with you mate. Maybe he just want to show what hero chaining is. I for one dont recommend this. Depending on difficulty, it is either dwelling or town hall upgrade and my surrounding area. Rush town or creature building. Depends on race though
Oh hey, makes me feel good that, as a complete noob at this game, I still had the intuition to do a sort of beta version of hero chaining. Never understood why buying a hero wouldn't be worth it given that they only need to grab a couple chests to completely pay themselves off. Not to mention the extra scouting, troop transport, and resource collection they can do.
I actually learned to hero chain by playing through the campaigns on impossible. Cause it`s just too frustrating to have one hero go back and forth between two-three poorly defended castles. :) At first I tried it mid campaigns but I slowly started to incorporate the tactic at the start of a map. It makes all the difference.
I played since 2000 and the best strategy is start with 2 heroes and strengthened them almost equally then enlist a third hero and fourth and use them as replenishing
Hi there, I've seen multiple video's where people are able to reject quick combat results and fight the battle anyway. When I turn on quick combat I don't have that option and I can't figure out why. Does it have to do withme playing the HD edition instead of the original game with HD mod? It would really speed up my games allowing me to get more practice in :)
I think it would have taken considerably longer. And as in any leason, you want to educate the trainee as fast as possible. Of course....kind of side tracked there a little. :)

You should do a video where you play on very high difficulty. It's easy to hire that many heroes when you start with a truck load full of gold. Good video though!
So that's why in Heroes 4, every separate unit has a limited number of movement points. I always found that annoying, because when one hero gave his troops to another hero, this another hero couldn't go go very far this turn. Looks like without this limit, it can be abused in such a way that a single army travels every turn so many movement points you would normally cross in a week. It's like using a cheat.
Well, in heroes 4 you can do it the other way around: it's usually your heroes that matter in the big fights. So you can chain small stacks of quick units (such as sprite) to speed them up, or to transport them (you suicide your hero and carry his tombstone).
