- Took the 3.0L Duramax Silverado down to Omaha quick to check out a Camper. Crazy how good of MPG it gets for being a full size truck. If you have not driven on yet and are on the fence just go and drive one. You will be sold after that!

I also have a 21 Silverado three liter diesel and it blown my mind when I see the gas mileage. My best so far in two months was 25.6 in city driving. Temps were about 60 that day. Better than my wife’s Eqiunox!
Its crazy isn't it!! I have buddies that swore I was lying until they went to the pump with me. Now they are believers and thinking about the switch themselves. Why wouldn't you get a truck that gets better mileage than the wifes Equinox lol. Hope more people buy them and the Tahoes/Suburbans with them and its becomes more common. Should have been this way for years.
Gas quality makes about 2 to 3 mpg that I noticed.
I've seen the 2.7 EcoBoost get pretty close to that on the highway. Of course I don't think it would fare as well for city mileage! Good results man!
I have a 2022 3 l Duramax, took a trip this weekend , 340 MI just under a half a tank of fuel I was averaging a little over 32 MPG. Driving between 60 and 65 miles an hour.
THEY ARE AWESOME. AND IT GETS BETTER THE MORE MILES YOU GET ON THE TRUCK. NOTICED 1MPG BETTER ON THE SAME DRIVE AFTER HITTING 10K. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING. ENJOY THE TRUCK!
Best half ton diesel....easy! Great video! Love to see more!
I love this truck. Really want to get the wife a Yukon with one just cant justify the Large price jump from a Silverado to a Tahoe/Yukon. Thanks for Watching!
@@uptownautogarage6833 your welcome and good luck.
Have you (or anyone reading) done any highway trips around 80 mph? We frequently travel to and from Cleveland and Columbus which takes just over 2 hrs at 80 mph. Curious the mpg at those slightly higher speeds.
Just got one last week. My best so far was 29.5 on the highway. Makes a big difference going 65 versus 75. I absolutely love it so far.
I've noticed there isn't much difference goin 65 or 70. Once it gets over 70 I see a big drop. So just keep cruise set at 70 the whole time and does great. Latest trip got almost 35mpg cruising at 70 for 6 hours.
Have you done any highway trips with cruise set to 80 mph? Curious about the mpg at that speed.
Great video, I’ve got the same truck, I’ve gotten 35.7 highway!
I average 35mpg freeway and about 25 in the city. Love this thing. But still getting killed at 6$ a gallon..FJB
2:50 did not age well, diesel is is sitting pretty at 4.70 here for the last 3 months. in Texas
How you like the truck ? Any issue ?
Was looking for a Silverado 3.0, but couldn’t find one. I reserved a ford Lightning Pro, and it’s being built next week. I’ve calculated what a e gallon would cost…..$0.85/e gallon !!!
Had a vw diesel years ago and the mpg was great. But, I’m glad I waited for the Lightning
What’s the range in one of those? My issue with EV at the moment is time to recharge. When I’m traveling I’m not waiting hours each time I stop. But I’m def not against them just feel for me they aren’t right yet.
@@uptownautogarage6833 230 std battery, 320 extended battery. Take 15-30 minutes at a fast charger. Most charging is done at work (might be free) are home. My home cost for the Leaf I just sold was around $0.75/e gallon…my new truck that’s coming will be about $0.85/e gallon
@@phileasler5401 15-30 minutes from empty to completely full?! I can get behind that if that’s the case
@@uptownautogarage6833 no not empty, you wouldn’t run it down that far. 40 minutes sat at 15% to 80%. I’m retired and take my dog with me, stop at a fast charger and walk my dog for 15 minutes. Electric vehicles are different, faster then Lightning (bad joke) quick Hugh torque, extremely quiet, no oil changes, mostly just tires and wiper blades
@@phileasler5401 maybe they'll be reliable... I'll stick with my lmm duramax... can haul 3 of those trucks way farther than 100 miles
Just picked up 2021 silverado LT 3.0 diesel N loving it. But I get between 25 and 27 avg mpg mix driving but 75 to 80 on highway.
Have done 29 or 30 when causing at 60miles per hour.
Either way better then any cars that I had before except hybrid I had. Lol.
These trucks are crazy. Should have came out years ago. I've found I get better cruising at 70. Going 65 doesn't do any better and going over 70 it drops pretty good 3-4 mpg.
I just get my 2021 duramax twin sister of yours,$43,777 was my deal in Phoenix Az,just curious, how much you paid? Thanks
Ps,nice videos 👍
MINE OUT THE DOOR WAS $44,250 PLUS TTL WAS JUST OVER $10K OFF STICKER.
I just paid $2.70/gal for 93 for my truck. I don’t miss the days during Iraq war when diesel went over $5/gal. The Duramax is the best diesel. 👍 GM is about to upgrade the interiors of these trucks. How is the power and around town mpg? I miss my ‘02 Duramax
Yea from what im seeing they are supposed to be getting a face lift and interior changes. Waiting to see what they look like. This may be getting traded when they come out. Power is great around town. Gets up and moves, will throw you back in your seat. If you liked your 02 you would love this 1/2 all the power you need and the MPG you want. Best all around.
I have a 2020 AT4 4x4, 6.5' bed/crew cab and just put on 1700miles(17k total) and average around 25mpg. That's with 3 people and luggage running A/C or heat most of the time. Over the 17k and over a Wisconsin winter I average around 23.
Cant wait to see how it does over time. Have a few trailers ill hook up here and there so I'm sure lifetime mpg wont be amazing but I'm sure it'll still be better than anything I've gotten in the past. Ill have to see how it does on its next long trip with trailer and update everyone.
Do you know your rear axle ratio. GMC dealership had a 2022 AT4(x) with 3.73’s. Sounds like that may be lower than the Denali’s or the Silverado’s.
No Ethanol gas wowwww
Awesome truck!
I love my 2021 Sierra AT4 with the duramax.
That fuel cap in great by the way! Bought a similar one and got it on Saturday. Not sure why GM doesn't just put these on from the factory...
Im not a fan of the capless systems. This just makes me feel a little more comfortable keeping debris out of the tank and from the family accidently putting gas in it.
Looking at getting one of these trucks. Where did you order the fuel cap from? Do they also have DEF caps.
My 20 has been trouble free, I sit at 10k miles so far. my lifetime average on the computer says 24.4 which I am happy with. I have a loaded Crew standard bed with the dumbo tow mirrors too. My "old" 2020 Ram 1500 hemi I traded in had a lifetime average of 15.2 with the same driving. Minor towing, but I have only added 7.5 gals of DEF since new as well.
Wish mine had the standard bed. Years ago I had a Ext Cab with the 8ft bed and it was the best of all worlds. Took it all the way to 300K before the frame broke on me. Ill be around 3,000 miles after this weekend. Interested to see how a 1,000 mile trip does for the mileage. Kinda excited to see what changes they make to the 22s. May be time to trade this in here in a few months haha
I just got a 22 refreshed Silverado 3.0 these new trucks are so damn comfortable and this diesel is amazing. Thanks to you and other channels i knew i made the right choice!
Looked like that minivan Parked as close to possible to your truck w/o actually touching...
Gotta love neighbors 😒. Luckily I have cameras so if he decided to give the truck a love tap one day ill have it all recorded.
Just think if the truck was tuned you would get about 25 percent better fuel economy
I thought about that. If I were going to keep it past the warranty I would. But for now this mileage is a HUGE improvement over what I have been getting. Cant wait for the winter blend to be done and see how it goes up.
Just now watching your video and the prices from a year ago make me sick how much it has increased
What speed were you going on hiway to get that? And also have you had any problems in the last year?
I have the Denali in the Diesel engine, I took a road trip to West TX and was getting 26mpg.
Really want to get the wife one. She has a 19 Yukon right now and averages around 15-16. Think the diesel would be a better option for her since she travels so much. How do you like the dash gear shift buttons?
@@uptownautogarage6833 It’s definitely a big change but you get used to it. I actually kind of like it.
@@CJ-512 she had a Terrain for while with the buttons and it was really weird but nice not having the shifter in the way on the console. Hope they never go to that on pick ups. Like having a real shifter for towing etc.
Thanks for the video! Thinking of getting this myself. Have some questions: 1) I do a fair bit of idling, is it ok to idle say an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening? 2) Any way to heat the cab without turning engine on? 3) Did you get the remote starter (Factory)? I've been seeing more nightmare 3.0 Duramax reviews (long crank, engine code/idle issues, etc) for 2021 owners and it's making me nervous. I don't really tow anything, I've just have always wanted a full size Chevy Crew Cab that did well on fuel. Thanks!
I think it's not good to idle for long periods like you said. It will clog up the DEF on the exhaust.
Long idle times are not good for any motor, but they are especially hard on a diesel.
Actually they aren’t hard on a diesel but rather a diesel with all the government mandated emissions crap on them. Diesel engines short of that crap can run virtually forever.
Not sure if you’ve gotten answers elsewhere but from the Duramax forum, sounds like there’s a fix available at the dealers for the long-crank issue and it seems to be working! Don’t have the 3L Duramax myself, but it’s definitely #1 on my list. Talked with others who use it for short city trips and they’ve reported no issues either.
Get used to seeing those pessimistic numbers on the computer. I've put over 27,000 miles on my truck since September last year and I have hand calculated each tank of Diesel and confirmed better calculated MPG than what the onboard computer reads.
Enjoy that truck. They are sweet.
P.S.: Not a single issue with my truck this far. I should have just over 40k before my year with it is out.
YES I CAN TELL THE COMPUTER IS A LITTLE ON THE LOW SIDE. STILL CANT BELIVE WHAT IT HAS BEEN GETTING. BEST TRUCK IVE OWNED.
Ive never owned a diesel, but am considering this one. Anything different you have to do (or avoid doing) compared to a gasoline truck to keep it running as perfectly as what you’ve experienced?
@@jakes5530 Honestly just stay on top of oil changes and fuel filter changes.
The only other thing will is that diesels like to be driven. I didnt beat on it, but i didnt baby my Duramax 3.0. I traded it a year ago on a 2500 Cummins, but it had 50,000 miles on the nose at trade in, two days shy of a year of owning it. Not a lick of trouble.
I did my own oil changes and bought the filter and oil from the dealer. Just make sure they give you the correct one. I had an issue where they sold me the incorrect oil and had to return it.
If you are looking at this engine, wait until the new one releases. It will have more power and torque and it was already no slouch.
@@mendiesel7932 thanks for the info. Do you remember what your mpg was during highway trips around 80mph? Around 65 seems to be the sweet spot to maximize mpg for this engine, but I usually just set adaptive cruise to 80 for long trips.
@@jakes5530 I usually calculated between 26.8 to 27.8 MPG for a tank, around 78-80 mph, including passing at WOT.
Backroads below 55mph for long distance and consistent speed, I got as high as 33 to 34MPG average per 50 miles.
I would like to know where I can get that fuel cap for my 3.0L. I have a 2021 DENALI with 4000 miles on it now my best Fuel mileage 35.5 cruising 70 and 75 MPH. Please e-mail me where I can purchase that little green Diesel fuel cap thanks.

Do you know the rear axle ratio?
Your fuel is atleast $1.00 cheaper than where I’m at. I would love to pay $2.99 for diesel or gas.
Jumped up to $3.19 Yesterday but yea I know we are lucky here in the Midwest compared to other places.
Watching this a year later and fuel cost $6.59 per gallon...let's go Brandon!
$4.99 here In Iowa but yes it’s just stupid that is for sure.
Just bought a 2021 Silverado duramax keep vis coming thanks
Congrats on the new truck! They are amazing machines.
Hi there, whenever you get a chance can you do a rundown on the BlueDEF fluid consumption. I got My RST black and black with 5 miles on it March 24Th by now i put on it 1010.00 miles on it and BlueDEF gauge shows bellow half. As per dealer they told me DEF fluid should last about 4-5000 miles without refill on the Duramax. Much appreciated your time and answers on this. Thanks Buddy I LOVE my DURAMAX RST Z71 as well its a sexy beast.
MY FIRST 3.0L ONE IN THIS VIDEO. I TRADED IN WITH 5,400 MILES AND THE LOW DEF MSG CAME ON AT 4,900 MILES AND SAID I HAD A 600 MILE RANGE(GIVE OR TAKE) I DID TOWING AND CITY IT WAS A GOOD MIX. SO ID SAY IF YOU ARE TAKING IT EASY AND NOT TOWING MUCH IT WONT EAT IT. I TOOK A TRIP TO ARKANSAS WITH MY NEW TRUCK AND TOWED A SILVERADO HOME AND IT ATE ABOUT HALF TANK OF DEF IN 600 MILES. HUGE DIFFERENCE. YOULL LOVE IT AND DEF IS CHEAP SO NOT A BIG DEAL IN MY EYES. DONT BUY IT AND KEEP THO IT HAS A SHELF LIFE ONLY GET IT WHEN YOU NEED IT.
@@uptownautogarage6833 Thanks for the head's up buddy and as well thanks for sharing your experience. Be safe out there.
I’m paying the equivalent of $4.347 a gallon up here in Canada

Where did you find that diesel green fuel cap.?? Looks good to have.??
THIS IS THE EXACT ONE I BOUGHT. KNOW IT SAYS RAM BUT FITS LIKE A GLOVE. AND HAD TO HAVE IT SO WHEN SOMEONE USES THE TRUCK HOPEFULLY THEY DONT PUT GAS IN IT AND COST ME ALOT FIXING IT.

Wish I did not live so close to work otherwise I would definitely consider this truck. A 3 mile commute in the city would be terrible for this diesel. Absolutely perfect for long commutes and road trips.
That's a good and bad problem to have. It would be nice to live so close to work but yea truck would hate that drive. wouldn't be able to regen ever.
Uptown Auto Revival exactly! I would have to spend about an hour each week taking it for a drive just to do a regen. Which is why I’m really considering the new Powerboost F150. 24 mpg in the city and crazy power! Just hate how expensive Ford’s are in general. Even a Silverado LTZ is several thousand dollars less than a similarly configured F150 XLT

Keep me posted. Would like to know if it make a difference.
I know, these 3.0 are amazing. Average since I got mine ( 2020 RST) 8.6 L/100Km.
Its hard to beat having a full size truck and get this kind of mileage. Even driving it normal everyday driving and getting over 20mpg blows my mind.
How about the def usage? How many times would I be filling up the DEF Tank?
@@rohanchandel3369 I'm at 7000 km and still have 1/3 of DEF left.
@@jackcycling4403 okay then it doesn’t sound too bad. My dad just ordered the 2021 RST With 3.0l diesel duramax. Was just looking into rough estimate of def usage for him. So for your case you have driven 7000km and used 2/3 of the 20Litre def tank, so in other words 7000km will requires 13.3L of DEF, which is not bad. My Canadian tire Sells 9.5L of DEF for $20. This gives me a rough estimate of what to expect. & you said you got 8.6L/100km so that 7000km would have used 602L of Diesel. So 13.3L of DEF for 602L of Diesel. Okay thanks this really helped clear up my thinking, I thought he would have had to fill up def every like 2nd fill up but I was wrong
@@rohanchandel3369 Just so you know, you'll use more DEF if you pull a trailer/ have a heavy foot. I'm pretty low keyed when it comes to driving, not in a hurry.

Just bought a 21’ 1500 Z/71 LT 3.0 Duramax Slate Grey Metallic, Black Leather two weeks ago. Western Washington price was 55k before tax. After 1100 miles, mostly highway I’m averaging 29.9 according to the truck. I will need to do a hand calculation though since yours seems to be doing better than what the computer says. Just ordered that green gas plug also. Great videos!!!
Do you know why the sticker dropped to 26mpg from 29mpg they had in 2020?
Wasn’t aware it went down. But this is directly from GM. “The 4WD 3.0-liter configuration went up in its test weight class, which led to slightly reduced fuel economy to 22 city/26 highway/24 combined”.
@@uptownautogarage6833 Nice thanks, must be the reason.
They also sent out what they believe will be the most popular truck to get tested by the epa. They had the trail boss edition tested. That also has something to do with the drop in mpg.
There's zero chance of a 4x4 averaging 29mpg over 1000 miles. 26/24 is doable with my AT4 under the right conditions in my experience and 17k mi worth of driving one.
We will see. Taking it on a 900 mile trip this weekend. Cross fingers I can beat the 29mpg on this trip.
Great video man✨
THANKS MAN!!! Appreciate the continued support.
I just wished the engine didn't have a rubber belt driven oil pump behind the engine. Should've put it on the front. Deal breaker for me since I own trucks to 300k and I'll be replacing my old Sierra. Maybe a tundra is what I'll get. Let's see what the refresh is gonna be like.
I totally get keeping them until 300+ plus most of my truck a have that or close. But if you have to change the belt one time, maybe two times how much is that really compared to how much extra fuel you spend in the Tundra? Don’t get me wrong the Tundras are beautiful trucks but it’s going to average 15MPG vs 26MPG in the 3.0L. If you Havnt driven one go and give it a drive. Might persuade you mind.
Delete it and you will be closer to 35 MPG
If I was going to keep this one well past the warranty I would. This one will be traded in before warranty is up and ill get a little nicer trim level and then maybe. I couldn't imagine getting that kind of mileage out of a truck. It would be crazy!
Wouldn’t deleting void the warrenty?
Always a clown going for the delete. Take a chance with the feds? And you getting 30 mpg. How greedy do you need to be ? By the way I’m getting 35-40 at 60mph. Never would think to delete and help make the air a bit dirtier. Grow up man.
At the start of the video I was curious on how that van was supposed to leave lol
Wasn't blocking anyone important. Live near a used car lot and he feels the need to park overflow inventory on the street. Its annoying to say the least and city doesn't care due to it being in the older part of town. Frustrating.
