  • Beretta's first polymer-frame handgun was not a great successs, and is widely lauded on the internet as the worst modern Beretta. But how bad is it really?

    The 9000 was exactly as you said, Beretta's first polymer pistol attempt. The big issue came with them attempting to incorporate the FS 92 lineage and it becomes clear that they had allot of after thoughts within the designing of the 9000 series. One was as you described, the locking system they had to cleverly redesign. The biggest issue came to the FS 92 type trigger bar as that posses a huge issue with a polymer frame and due to the FS 92 trigger bar system they had to move it within the frame causing the frame to be wide. So the designing of the 9000 series were allot of "oh shucks" moments to get to the final product that was a very wide pistol due to almost building around an FS 92 design that was originally built from the ground up as a steel framed pistol. But we need to understand that the 9000 series played a very important role for Beretta as they learned a huge lesson. The lesson was that they needed to ditch this attempt of letting their new designs revolve around the FS 92 legacy and the PX 4 storm is testament of them building from the ground up a polymer pistol and redefining their "uniqueness" instead of riding on the back of the FS 92 design and letting it define every design of theirs. The PX 4 storm is a phenomenal pistol that came from the lessons learned from the 9000 series. I wish Beretta would make a Gen 2 of the PX4 storm by involving people like Mr Langdon to help "unlocking" the potential of the PX 4 storm as it is by far one of the best hammer fired polymer pistols ever made and still has room to be even better.

    Somehow I never knew of the the 9000, but it was made in at least 9 and 40. Thanks for extending my knowledge. I would only buy if it were dirt cheap

    Thanks for another fine review. This Beretta certainly seems quirky, but it was a valiant first effort. It was nice to see the Detonics again, too! 👍👍

    The combination of the dual recoil Spring combined with. The Browning recoil lug Angle. Does
    A great job of mitigating muzzle rise for extremely quick double taps.

    It's a shame - I like the open top slide, but the grip size, the rotting neoprene, and the controls just weren't good. The Browning tilting barrel is also weird on this. Then again, it was designed by a car guy, not a gun guy, if I recall correctly.

    • @loquat44-40

      For me an open slide is just a super large access port for trash & debris to get into a gun. Around my little florida estate when working, tending my trees, chainsawing trash trees, mowing, tending my garden and working on my house in 90 degree humid weather, a gun carried under an open sweat soaked shirt after a abusive periods of no cleaning attracts dirt. The S&W sigma VE has given me stellar service even with its horrible trigger.
      I will be switching to a Glock 23 in 40 with heavy loads because of the increasing number local suburban black bears.

      @loquat44-40 Egypt and Iraq love their open slide designs and you don't get much more dusty and sandy debris. The only grief Berettas experienced was with cheap Checkmate magazines. Beretta OEM or Mecgar handled the environmental conditions, wide open slide and all.

      @@Skaramine Interesting Egypt has used the Egyptian contract Beretta 1951. It is a dry grit over that way and they are carrying in an outside exposed and I assume flap military holster. I am carrying concealed under a sweat shirt. Whether that makes A difference I am not sure. Not too many others use a cutaway slide and perhaps there is a reason for it.

    • @Skaramine
      @Skaramine 26 днів тому +1

      @loquat44-40 frankly, I haven't seen reliability issues. The reason others don't use the open slide is that it adds thickness to the slide. There's a reason that the 92 was never converted to. 45 ACP. The slide would be as thick as a Desert Eagle's. Stuff getting in the open slide is NOT the issue.

    • @loquat44-40
      @loquat44-40 26 днів тому

      @@Skaramine Good point and as I recall some of the first 92's that went to the army had fractures on the slide and some of them broke IIRC.
      Also cutting the top of a slide lightens ot, so making it thicker does put some wt back in the slide.

      @timbacus9698 That was a direct dig at the Detonics Pocket Nine and in fact the Pocket Nine had horrible recoil for a 9mm pistol. I agree with Tinker that since the Pocket Nine was so bad that slogan was pretty low bar. Not a fan of DAO autos like the 9000 D or the SIG P225 and there are still a lot of them on the market today.
