Listen, if you are in the miliary and someone of higher rank ever tells you "we're gonna be buddies, we're gonna be friends..." know that you are in for a world of pain.
It could be growing pains but stand by to stand by...

I was an active duty chief for more than 20 years. It is not a momentary thing. It is a becoming thing that sometimes requires decades. In my opinion, being a chief has nothing to do with the chief. The only worthwhile reason to become a chief is to advance (a) the Navy, (b) the wellbeing of your ship, sailors and yourself; and specifically in that order.

Jesus Christ they need a Marine out there to teach them how to do drill. I guess we do dress right dress with gear in our hand? I know its a straight knife hand, head and eyeballs snap to the right. DRESS RIGHT.....DRESS!!!! (SNAP). I swear They need Drill Instructors at RTC Great Lakes just like they have at Navy OCS to set the tone. Thats basic close order drill people should know from boot camp.

I don’t know what it’s like now but back in the 80s when I was in, the Navy was the ONLY branch that has such a rite of passage going from E-6 to E-7 and I was told of occasions when USMC “Gunny” selectees requested and was allowed to go through Chief’s Initiation!
Back then, selectees had a “book” they had to carry around 24/7 and they caught HOLY HELL if it gets “misplaced!” They constantly have E-7/8/9 coming into the workcenter to bust their chops and the junior enlisted get in on the fun as well finding and hiding these books! The actual “Chiefs Initiation” was top secret and only Chief and Chief Selectees know what is really going on! Like joining a “Secret Society” or something! I never made Chief and over 30 years later, I still don’t know what happens!

It's the Navy, not the Marines, not the Army, not the Air Force, and not the Coast Guard. We train to do different things. Sailors normally don't march. It's just that simple. Turn off the ridicule.

Scott Smith Close Order Drill is basic stuff that any NCO or Petty Officer should know how to do. Learning how to hold a formation as an E7 select is stuff you should learn as an E4. There’s this thing out there called Corporals Course. The Navy should look it up.

@@scottsmith4612 I think the point here is that they ARE doing close order drill. The "We do things different" concept shouldn't mean they do it wrong. If you're going to do it, and especially if you're going to claim that these CPO candidates are the best of the best, they certainly should be doing it right. Ridicule? Put your big girl panties on. These are supposed to be America's best.

This video dates from 2012, so Vanessa would have been 13 years old and attending middle school. She was in the Army and stationed at Fort Hood, while this is a US Navy ship. The similar circumstances are perplexing.

The initiation is not a requirement. Be within standards, CO promotion endorsement and leadership academy which is mostly some fat chief reading off a PowerPoint. Don't be fooled by the so called u have to do this. If they say that to u or discriminate u in any way, go to legal, do an IG. As long as the chiefs mess is using a federal institution, they cannot prevent u from meetings, etc. Heck, the association needs permission from the base CO to operate and.... not part nor endorsed by the Navy anyways. Know your rights and exercise them.
And u will get pinned when u get paid... unless u get frocked before that, only the CO can retain frocking and if he does, what was the reason? If u met the standard, they cannot prevent frocking. Get legal involved, you will win. Once you are pinned as a chief, never ever be part of a DRB, not part of the legal system nor required... sometimes those idiots in a DRB cause more harm than anything. If u ever in a DRB, ask for a lawyer and keep your mouth shut, chances are, command has nothing on u. Stay in the DRB until 1630 and walk out at 1631, only the CO can secure your regular liberty, but ask the senior person first if he or she is securing your liberty. Unless they have a letter from the CO, they can't cause it isn't punitive. Know your rights....
