Three different Michael Jackson references makes me assume it's an MJ homage. Thriller line, the moonwalkin and the Awooooo hook sounds like the chorus to Earth Song by MJ.

I can confidently say that XG has NOT A SINGLE miss. I’ve yet to see a group be so experimental & it work out in their favor EVERYTIME. UNTIL XG debuted. love them down!

I am 75 years old Japanese male ALPHAZ, and I have been listening to the soul music exclusively since 1968. I was moved by their first single, Tippy Toes, and each and every song they made. I think that it’s no wonder if MV of Tippy Toes and Howling were on the Video Soul of BET in 90’s.

It’s just so surreal to be experiencing everything that XG has given us. HOWLING really represents XG giving life to a world that has become so bland, and they’ll never back down against anyone or anything. XG just knows who they are and that is such a wonderful thing to stand behind.
I don’t know why I always feel like “is this the time they finally miss?”…. Then I watch the video and it’s better than the last!!!!

It's all based on Michael Jackson's Earth song, hence the MJ references. Earth song MV is all about the human abuse to the earth and Howling is all about AI taking over hence the Matrix references. Cocona scene with the chorus and the chorus itself is exactly like the chorus of Earth song with MJ in the burnt down forest.
Someone said that there are some Princess Mononoke references in the music video.

The song has this smooth, soulful R&B vibe that blends effortless vocals with a really catchy rhythm 😮⚘️ The video itself is visually stunning, with some really creative storytelling that complements the track perfectly, it got detective type of stuff.. I think you’d really enjoy both the music and the visuals - it’s definitely worth a watch! 🤭
