  • I would call this a 3 to 4 year stove , that is in 4 years you will be replacing the bolts that hold the thing together. However for a low cost it is better than freezing to death and with a little ingenuity your house will still be livable in the dead of winter. If you can afford one of the new stoves that reburn the exhaust by all means get the better one because it puts out less smoke ( making your location more stealthy) and is more efficient.
If you want to spend a little extra check out www.vogelzang.c... ....
Here is a nice example of a small cook stove that would work nicely in a small cabin....

I looked at this stove at our local Farm and home supply . I decided to use a barrel stove kit that I allready had . Instead of a barrel I went to a local fabrication shop that manufactures septic systems . They rolled me a barrel out of 3/16" steel and I welded the ends and the seam myself . got the whole set up for around $90.00 and my time. Looks like it will last awhile if needed . Also I bought 2 boxes of firebrick to line it with . Mine ain't perty , but she works .

I wound up with the wood stove my grandfather had specially made years ago. There's still some guys around custom building stoves, the one I have has a compartment on top that you can bake in. I really enjoy opening the door and watching the fire on cold days.

You think a couple of pieces of angle iron, one on each side of the bottom to tie that front part with the rest of the stove would help, and maybe upgrade to hardened bolts would keep them from rusting out, maybe stainless?
It looks like a good stove, just needs a little modification to get the most out of it.

That stove would be nice out back on a chilly evening on a patio with an 8' chimney & some friends. I bet when that thing is blazing it can put off some incredible heat. I have a free standing backyard potbelly stove that is great, its small and needs to be fed every 5 minutes but it glows red and kicks butt for what it is. Now i'm looking to make another larger outside heater & I think this would be good, too bad it doesn't have a small window to see the flame...

Dude you have to be the most brutal person I've ever had the pleasure to watch. Brand New Stove and you're beating it with a Hammer, Painting the bottom and moving it around on Cement Scratching the top! You have problems putting on the damper? You're calling that stove a POS and you are moving cast iron, beating it and scratching the top! ROFLMAO! I'm glad you do not plan on using that stove because after seeing the vid you'd burn yourself up, no fault of the stove either!

@cresidue I agree 100% except for one thing... I cannot ALWAYS find "American made" at the price I can afford. If I can I WILL by "American made" over foreign ALWAYS!

I wish I could do that, with the wood stove and farming and stuff. I know it's a lot of hard work, but still.

It's a funny thing now this almost exact model now has to be 2020 compliance and at $400 it has a completely sealed top so just an indentation for burner plates and the ash lip is also a solid piece and there's no damper also a baffle that most people walk by it decided to poke and open it back up (lol) so is it worth a efficiency % guess we'll see if I decide to get one

My first comment was too long so I'll keep this short. I live in North Dakota and have a friend who visits the hospital I work at. She is a 23 year old girl with bipolar and also a big fan of yours, as a matter of fact she was the one who told me of your channel. Now i loved the info. you gave but seeing this vid. broke my heart. I rruely hope she never saw this vid. She see's too much bad as it is.

Hi Dave, just a suggestion.... perhaps build a fire (or two) in it on your porch and bake off all the factory paint odors before you install it.
Yea, the stove may be for decoration but there just may come a day where you need it and that would likely be an inconvenient time to have to wait for 6 hours while you bake off all the odors.

I grew up with wood heat. Folks had a FireKing from a True Value Hardware store in the late 70s, then in a couple of years they stepped up to a Kodiak stove with a baffel and 1/4" plate steel.

I think the one I had in my old house was a Vermont Castings model. One little stove, not much bigger than that one, heated my whole home. I only used wood to heat my home, nothing else.

I think it would be time to search the antiques section on Craigslist and find an old one that still works...when it comes to cast iron they built it to last a hundred years ago.

mass rocket heaters are still the way to go, I've used one in a yurt for the last 10 years, just north of Baxter State Forest, Maine. With great success, at almost no cost whatsoever. Regards

hey I have a suggestion for you have you looked at the converion kit to turn a 55 gallon drum into a wood burning stove it would be a lot bigger but a lot better than that thing .There is also a kit for a 35 gallon barrel as well

If one had access to welding supplies, then couldn't that lip be welded into place? Then you don't have just two bolts holding up half of your support.

It's a U.S, Stove 2469E. You can order one from your local Ace Hardware where it's $100+ cheaper than Amazon and you can drive it home and save the $200 shipping.
