Ireland is its own nation! We fought for our independance and won, we beat the strongest empire in the world. We are a separate Island from britain and after what Britain did to Ireland they do not deserve to associate with us.
Tom Snyder... a classic. That show --- late into the wee hours as it was -- actually the next morning -- was a gem . A gem, because like U2, it charted its own course, sometimes for better for or for worse, but it's own course indeed. Sometimes in spectacular, exceptionally memorable fashion.
.. because of my Dad in the military...1981... I lived in Mayport, Fl. for the next 10 years. In 1981, I was walking down the jax. bch. boardwalk and I heard these guitar notes coming out the back door of a bar... the notes were brutal and icy... I ran into the barto hear the song and got kicked out because it's illegal for boys to be in bars... but I saw the name... U2... the song was "I Will Follow." It changed my life... for the bertter... Mum had her Beatles... I have U2. Quid pro Quo...
@ 0:54 Edge looks at Bono and realizes that his own microphone is placed differently. His face is like 'Omg somethin's wrong'. Then the Edge thinks of something and changes his own microphone (also trying to avoid being seen while doing it). This whole thing is somewhat funny.
0:58 Edge is just like: "Ok, keep it cool...wait....ah, shit this thing's on the wrong way. Okay, I bet if I do this slowly, nobody will notice. Here goes...."
Holy moly, even though Bono looks like he had sniff something before interview, he's still hot. And Edge... just adorable and hilarious at once. Love them both 8)
3 years previously my Dad was a prefect and a hall monitor and gave out to Bono for walking in the hallways out of class. Bono was repeating his leaving Cert (never know if he did) and not really a student anymore and he was allowed walk around the hallways so that's a funny story of how my dad accidentally gave out to Bono, course he wasn't really known by Bono then, atleast to his fellow classmates.
Bono did a marvelous job in the interview on "The Tomorrow Show" with (The Late) Tom Snyder. I was amazed at how he answered the questions with confidence from June 1981 in reference to U2's start of recording songs in the United States. A 6!!
U2 is from Dublin, Ireland, as in Republic of Ireland, which is NOT a part of Great Britain. He's not splitting hairs, he's just correcting Snyder. It's the same as someone saying you're from Mexico, when you're from Guatemala.
When U2 was on the Graham Norton Show a few years ago he shows an early publicity shot and they had that dry hair and he said, "This must've been during the great conditioner shortage in Ireland."
Oh god, I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye yet... It'd be another 4 years before I came along... Why do all the cool, sexy guys have to be famous and older than me?
LMFAO, that last question (Boy vs Girl) totally threw them for a loop! Come on guys, stop trying to save the world and loosen up a bit. I'm showing my age here: I remember that interviewer. He was huge back then. Tom Sawyer or something...
Half of America know there’s an Iowa. I’ve always been impressed with their love of and fascination with the US. I could say the same of Robert Plant too, back in the LedZep days. Neither Edge or Bono has lost a bit of their friendliness or charisma and love, love the hair!
r maybe its takes your brain 3 years to process things...ya fuckin idiot, the album boy didnt come out until 1980...so how the fuck cud they do PR for an album dat hadnt even been conceived yet! They weren't even U2 yet...there bands name in 1978 was "The Hype"
Don't forget Van Morrison who was big with the band "Them". G L O R I A Like to tell you 'bout my baby, you know she comes around, Five feet four From her head to the ground Comes around here Just about midnight Makes me feel so good Makes me feel alright And her name is G . L . O . R . I . A.
personally i think THE EDGE grew old Gracefully, n how come THE EDGE is in most interview's with BONO.. not that i'm complaining just curious.. Keep up the good work U2
"my real name is Johnny Carson but i didn't think it'd get me anywhere" - The Edge, sharp as always...
The Edge was born "David Howell Evans" in Barking, Essex, England

Providing YOU’RE still alive!
US Interviewer: "A lot of bands come over from Great Britain-"
Bono: "IRELAND!"
Amhran na bhFiann!
Awww! They looked all shy, and humble, and look at them now, one of the BEST bands in the world!!!
BOY is just an introduction to U2. It's a symbol of Innocence.
One can call it what they will, it is still one of my favourite records.
U2 - an INCREDIBLE band. What they did musically after this interview is nothing short of miraculous.
Here it is 30 years later and they have the hugest and most profiting tour in history. Its great to see the good guys do well.
Edge's sense of humour hasn't changed at all, and Bono's accent is virtually the same too.
The Edge - the legend...
Aww, Bono and The Edge are so adorable!
+The Geeky U2 fan Awesomeness Yeah!
The first few seconds where The Edge stands up and shakes Tom's hand really makes me love him more. Ohhhh The Edge...
Damn, one year after their first album and they made waves in the states.

That is amazing. Thanks a lot. God bless you…

hair conditioner must not have been invented yet haha :P
When U2 was on the Graham Norton Show a few years ago he shows an early publicity shot and they had that dry hair and he said, "This must've been during the great conditioner shortage in Ireland."
In all fairness, most of the 80’s hairstyles were like that.
if that wasnt the most adorable thing
My goodness, Edge has hair.
two hearts beat as 4!!!!!!!!!!!
The Edge, I mean Johny Cash, is a genious.
Bono is freaking beautiful here..
And he was actually NICE!!! DJ
JeanGenie127 seems like he's always been nice.
Lol holy crap they were so young 😂 wow
Bellos, divinos!!! Los vere nuevamente en Chicago el anio entrante!!
Es buena?
Jesus christ, Bono had the same attitude about America in the 80's as he does now.
Noticed that too.
Snyder was great. Excellent questions.
I`m born in "october", late 1981, as their album are called !
OMG, Edge doesnt have his beanie on xD
Oh god, I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye yet... It'd be another 4 years before I came along...

Tara Cynara
"The U2" lol
baby edge
The Edge has Bush eyes.
Edge looks nervous but it's cute!
holy hell Edge
I really liked the concept of "Boy". This was when Rock mattered.
LMFAO, that last question (Boy vs Girl) totally threw them for a loop! Come on guys, stop trying to save the world and loosen up a bit. I'm showing my age here: I remember that interviewer. He was huge back then. Tom Sawyer or something...

I seem to remember watching this in 1978.
You seem to remember wrong.

Whatever about Tom Snyder, Bono had a lovely mullet when he was young! lol
Woooooow
MY IRELAND !!!
Hahahaha someone tell The Edge to lay off the pot before the interview. Classic :D
what did Edge say to make him laughing? I don't understand english so well
"Lubbock, Texas!!!"
Thats like saying Liam and Noel gallagher are Irish because both their parents were irish.
"Why did you call the album 'Boy'?"......stupid question Tom.
Old Tom had many, many stupid questions in his time. He was kind of known for it.
Shawn Smith : Not a bad question at all.
@Jim Newcombe You answered your own question. Why is any album called anything? Why is any band called what they are?
Loool, why he changes the position of this microphone?
they're at my age here! :D
They look nervous....
edge is my favorite
The Ritz -NYC 💜
So young so cool! Am I wrong or Bono doesn't really sound Irish? Doesn't he sound more like someone from Liverpool?
Imagine them being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon.
Bono looks like Robin Williams....the edge looks coked up
The edge has welsh parents, can we claim him as ours too? :( lol
Don't forget Van Morrison who was big with the band "Them".

Five feet four

Makes me feel alright
And her name is G . L . O . R . I . A.
Bono looks like Bridget Fonda.
No he looks like Robin Williams. Because he is him.
jajajajajajaja !!!!! Its true!!!!! jajajaja
Great alt band.
Edge looks a bit astonished at the beginning..look at his face!
FODA!
Northern Ireland is a part of UK, not Republic of Ireland. They wanted to be known as an Irish band not a British band.
lol
I just have to say it: how cute!
@SeekNd3str0y Bono's from Ballymun.
The Edge is fucking High.
personally i think THE EDGE grew old Gracefully, n how come THE EDGE is in most interview's with BONO.. not that i'm complaining just curious.. Keep up the good work U2
You two? Where are the other two?
At the beginning, it looked like Edge was going to kiss Tom.
@barn524 Si a mi tambien!!!!
Tan lindo de egde
Then all the English that were raised IN Ireland are Irish, Like General Wellington.
Some people can't use hair conditioner
Watch this video again when you are about 45 and you will know what I mean.
Is Edge high? :P And, he kinda looks like George Harrison :-O
Bono was too I think lol
That young The Edge looks like a mix between Keith Richards and Iggy Pop
Wow first time I have ever seen them on coke.. lucky it was a phase.. 1981 record company's were swimming in that stuff..
clearly you don't know what's to be nervous and full of adrenaline in front of the most famous tv show of America at that time.
