This is more clear and concise than half of natural hair youtube! No rambling monologue about traffic or anything.

This is exactly what I was looking for, so many other video's don't show exactly how to do short hair twist. Thank you for being so descriptive and detailed. Keep up the fantastic work.

Nice tutorial. Much appreciated. Many of the naturals do provide tutorials, but not when their hair is at this length. Thanks very much!

You did a wonderful job. You are a beautiful sister. This will be my second time growing dreads. However, I had the salon do it. You've given me the confidence to do it myself. Lets see if I can pull it off. No pun intended. Oh yeah, Every African family has a unique coil or kurl. And growing dreads is a spiritual experience. It is said they function as antenna picking up divine vibrations. Have you observed that many people who have dreads have their own unique style and seem to glow and radiate positive energy. Again, thank you. Ase

i pay a young lady to comb coil. i tried using the teeth just the way my stylist does it & i couldn't keep the parted coils separated. i started searching for videos of people to teach me how to coil so i think yours is the nicest because you use the rat tail comb in the shorter areas i wanted to see that thanks for having a great video.

I also tried last night to do the coils on his damp hair and I did smaller coils about your size. I used a spray on conditioner mix with leave in conditioner, holding spray, water, setting lotion and oils. I'm hoping that this will make a difference in the coils, but I think that because his hair has a naturally soft and curly texture that the coils require constant retwisting in order to stay coiled together.

  • @RimBlu4

when i first did my coils I only had about an inch and I used the comb for the majority of my hair and finger for the back which were the shorter parts of my hair

great vid, I just big chopped for the 2nd time and was looking for options. Your instructions make it so easy to try. I do have a question: do you wear a silk scarf at night and if you do or don't, how does your hair look on the second day? do you do anything the next morning to refresh it? your hair looks shiny, what are you using on it. Thanks for the help, it is appreciated.

no prob!! if you plan to redo them wash them every two weeks. i have washed my hair with the coils in and it was still nice, but just a little frizzy...i wore a headband with it..again it's pretty much up to you how long you want to keep them in.

You're an excellent teacher! I want to try the comb coil method. I've always done the finger coils in the past but it would be interesting to see the outcome of the comb method.
Take a look at my response video, but maybe you can offer a suggestion about how to keep the coils from unraveling on soft textured hair. My husbands coild keep unraveling in the back of his hair where his texture is most soft and the coil just turns into a little fuzzy curl after a day...

It depends on hair texture/type. The more coarser (if that's a word lol) the fasting it will lock. Sometimes it can take up to a week to several weeks for hair to lock.

@youyoujim1 Yes the textures are very different. Coils work best when the hair already has some type of curl to it. Coiling straight hair would accomplished by the chemical process, perm, and rolled on the tiniest rollers to create a tight curl, simulating African American curls, then defined through various styling techniques using certain products.
