- New polling from The New York Times and Siena College show Kamala Harris making significant gains in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, important swing states that seemed to be under Trump’s grip just a few weeks ago. The MaddowBlog’s Steve Benen discusses why these numbers should make Republicans nervous and the reasons Trump’s campaign appears to be flailing. They also discuss Benen’s new book, “Ministry of Truth,” which explores GOP attempts to rewrite the stories of the recent past and the consequences it’s having on democracy. “They’re doing this on purpose in a way that destabilizes democracy and makes the political system itself unable to function because people aren’t in a position to separate fact from fiction,” Benen warns.

Biden's New EPA Tailpipe Rule Penalizes American Energy Independence
On March 20, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a tailpipe vehicle emissions rule - a de facto ban on the sale of gas-powered and traditional hybrid vehicles - forcing automakers to sell more electric vehicles (EVs).
Experts and lawmakers agree: the Biden administration’s new rule will increase the cost of vehicles for the majority of Americans, only benefiting high-income earners.
Even with the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs, middle-class Americans cannot afford the switch from traditional energy to electric-powered vehicles.
The auto industry continues struggling to meet the EV sales projections set forth by Washington Democrats. For instance, the Ford Motor Company sold just 24,000 of its new electric ‘F-150 Lightning’ trucks in 2023, falling far behind the company’s initial expectation of reaching 150,000 car sales.
The green energy and EV tax credits included in the final passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) were initially estimated to cost the taxpayer $369 billion over the next decade. Since then, the revised cost estimate for such provisions has dramatically increased, now hitting an “estimated $1.2 trillion,” according to a Goldman Sachs analysis.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) initially estimated that EPA’s tailpipe emissions rule would add $224 billion to the deficit by increasing the usage of EV tax credits and reducing revenues from the gas tax.
The target outlined in the EPA’s final rule ignores the current limitations in battery technology and the global supply chain constraints on critical minerals necessary for the rapid expansion of EVs. Without serious reforms, the EV transition stands to benefit our greatest adversary more than Americans-who are already footing the bill.

I never put much stock in individual polls. What I watch are swing state polling TRENDS -- that is, swing state polling averages over time. Here's what they're telling us as of today:
Harris JUST took the lead in Arizona, evaporating what was once Trump's biggest swing state lead (nearly 6 points). She also leads in Michigan and Wisconsin and is tied with Trump in Pennsylvania.
Trump still leads in Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, but Harris has been steadily narrowing the margins (though Trump recently recovered about a half a point in Georgia).
All total, in seven swing states, Trump has lost more than 30 percentage points since Harris took over. The momentum is most definitely with the Harris campaign. But time will only tell if it continues.

FACT CHECK: The Truth About Biden’s Failed Presidency
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last night, Biden and President Trump participated in the first presidential debate of the year. President Biden tried to paint a picture that his presidency has been good for the American people, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The House Budget Committee is here with the facts on last night’s claims by Biden.
Economy:
Biden misled the American people about the pain his failed economic policies have inflicted. Under the Biden Administration, our country is at the highest level of indebtedness in history, inflation has soared nearly 20 percent, and the American dream has grown increasingly out of reach for millions of people.
Some of the startling statistics under Biden’s economy:
Prices are up nearly 20%, costing American families more than $17,000 per year.
The labor force participation rate of 62.5 percent is still below the prepandemic level of 63.3 percent, meaning 2.08 million fewer Americans are in the labor force when adjusted for population gains.
Interest rates were near zero percent before President Biden, now they are over five percent.
The Consumer Confidence Index is down 24 percent since February 2020, underscoring Americans’ pessimism about their fiscal future.
Inflation:
CLAIM: Biden said he is “working to bring down the price around the kitchen table” for Americans.
FACT: The truth is, families continue to struggle under the weight of high prices, spurred by over-regulation and out-of-control spending. Since January 2021, inflation has increased by 19.3 percent. With average weekly earnings increasing by just 14.6 percent in the same time period, the price of goods has outpaced family income over the past three years. The runaway spending of unified Democrat control continues to pump unprecedented amounts of money into the economy, further threatening high inflation for taxpayers.
CLAIM: Biden claims to care about America’s fiscal health.
FACT: The reality is that under President Biden, the cost to service our debt has skyrocketed. Interest spending has increased by $540 billion or 153 percent in the three years since President Biden took office. Our country now spends more to service the debt than we do on our national defense.

CLAIM: Biden stumbled over his words stating he created 15,000 jobs, before correcting himself to say 15 million, claiming that his administration saw record job creation.
FACT: The truth is that he inherited historic post-pandemic job recovery, plus the current labor force participation rate is still below pre-pandemic levels, meaning there are 2.08 million fewer Americans in the labor force when adjusting for population gains than before the pandemic.

All states are "battle ground" states. If you do not go and speak in a state or area you will never be able to swing their vote your way. Everyone wants to be heard and to know that you what to help make their lives better. The 20 States that only have the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour are the states suffering the most with this economy. Those are the states you need to go to and let them know that you are fighting for them to get a higher wage, let them know that the republicans continue to block higher wages.
