- In this video I review the Sony 55-210mm Telephoto Lens and why its still Valuable after a decade! I recently purchased the black version of this lens and the model number is SEL55210. I go over the things I love about the lens, the things I don't care for, and what I plan on using the Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS Lens for in my daily photography use. I start off with explaining that the lens was originally released in 2011 and that it is a 10 year old lens. I go into detail about the optical steady shot stabilization, the sharpness of the lens, the power of the zoom and I also show samples of how well the Telephoto Zoom works and the quality of pictures it can take. I talk about the quality and the construction of the lens and how it feels a little cheap and plasticky. This Telephoto Lens is very affordable and works for the Sony E-Mount cameras with APS-C size sensors. The manual zoom is also a little stiff and this makes it difficult for doing filming projects. My ultimate goal is to get a high quality close up picture of a hawk here in San Diego and unfortunately this Sony E 55-210mm Telephoto Lens did not do the trick. I end the video with pictures I took on a recent trip to the San Diego Safari Park to test out the lens on my Sony A6400 mirrorless camera. This lens is also compatible with the Sony a6000, a6100, a6500, and a6600.

I got it for $100 used on Amazon! I dig it for my first telephoto lens on my ZV-E10
The shot of the antelope enjoying the sun was my favorite!
Thank you Catherine!
I Have purchased Sony A6400 3 months back and i'm loving it., I was about to purchase one lens and I thought it might be 18-105mm and I'm sure that it would be my over all lens to cover up everthing I like to capture, as I was a newbie in Photography your video helps me to understand the scales and flaws I'm about to experience, Thanks for your video and keep up your good work man!! All The Best Brother.
Thanks for the kind words Prabakar! Glad to hear my videos have been helpful for you 👍 Congrats on your new Sony a6400 purchase, great choice! The 18-105mm is an excellent choice for a good all around lens. It's cool to hear you're loving it so far. Have fun and Take care Bro!
Beautiful photos at the end.
Love the zoo shots! Gives me a great idea of what this lens can do. I recently used my Sigma 56mm and added 1.5x optical zoom, so I guess it was getting 84mm out of it...but that comes at the cost of auto-eye detect. :( So I'm excited to try the 55-210mm next time.
Here’s something fun to try out: set the file to 5 Mb jpegs, and set the zoom to digital zoom. This unlocks 8x zoom. Image quality results may vary though.
Mine will arrive next week from Germany,

I have Sony A6400 with 18-135mm zoom lens. Can I purchase this Sony 55-210mm Telephoto Lens further. Please let me know.
will this lens work with a Sony A7R2?
I can better off using my samyang 85mm f1.4 lens than this lens for better details?
Besides the kit lens and this one, what other Sony lens has OSS?
Can I use sony zv e10
in good condition of light good perform
Would this work well for plane spotting?
It's something i want to get in too but all the other lenses are expensive and i could get one of these for 160€ which is not bad.
Is this Lens Good Enough for Sony Zv e10 as far photography is Concerned?
It's incredible for the price
I was thinking the 70-350 but it costs 900 bucks, but this is a steal for 300. But if the reach isn't that good and image quality either maybe opt for the 70-350 if I wanna shoot like birds of prey, eagles n stuff? Although good for a beginner starter??
This lens you use looks different than most 55-210mm images I see. Yours looks thicker? Are there two versions of this lens?
It's because of the hood.
bro I just bought this lens, super impressive. My latest video has some good shots with this lens if your interested. Great video by the way very professional
Thanks Thomas! Yeah definitely impressive especially for the lens being that old right? Thanks for the kind words and Thanks for watching!
nice shots! ... at 210mm, you will get 315mm equivalent, but try use it with the Clear Image Zoom, you will get more reach...say 600mm equivalent? lol... yes, I've tried shooting far away birds using that technique... hope it helps... cheers....
Thank you! Ill have to try it out. I always shoot RAW and unfortunately clear image zoom isn't offered in that format, only jpeg. Thanks for the suggestion👍.. And Thanks for Watching
i have a6400.. im planning to get this lens soon but not really sure it is good deal or not since this lens aged almost 10 years
I think if you find a decent price on this lens used, it is definitely worth it. Especially considering all that it has to offer (powerful zoom, oss, light weight). But if you're already looking for a higher quality zoom lens, then I would save the money and put it towards that. Thanks for watching👍
This is a full frame lense right?
No, this is an APSC lens. A full frame Sony camera will automatically switch to crop mode when this lens is fitted
F11 is its sharpest Aperature n shiieeeet using dat will help get sharp photos n shiieet
Whenever I use this lens, I run the images through Topaz Sharpen AI.
Same here 😂
Probably only good for close up video work, where you usually don't want or need super sharpness. There are simply far too many better options for photography.
Yes, I agree.. I have already purchased much better telephoto zoom lenses. I do however, think this is an Excellent and Affordable choice for a beginner who is looking for their first telephoto zoom lens to practice with. Thanks for watching 👍
