I just picked up the Kate Wilhelm book also. I read On The Beach long ago and remember that I thought it was really good, but it feels like it might have been in another lifetime. You have a lot of great books here, Gareth.
Interesting! Michael K.Vaughn said you were to be checked into. I will happily be looking around, although I really don't like post-apocalyptic books or movies, I see that you are almost as crazily diverse as I am, so I will be checking out more videos.
@bookssongsandothermagic That was from Trainspotting?! It's been many years, but I would have thought I had practically every word of that thing memorized. And now I'm suddenly in a Lou Reed sort of mood. 😂
Taking notes. I hadn't given it much thought, but I recently realized that the lion's share of my SF reading has been confined to the classics. Guess folks have a point when they say I've always been an old codger. 😊
Hahaha I get it though - they’re the ones that get talked about all the time and what people think they should be reading. They don’t always work for me.
Yes. I have only just got around to watching this one! I read The Lincoln Hunters in an SFBC hardcover around 45 years ago. I remember liking it. I wonder if I still have the book? I loved everything I read by Greg Bear, but I haven't read that one. Jilly, and I didn't get on with Ancillary Justice. I want to read Ice some day. I hadn't heard of it until a few years ago. I never really got on with Ballard, but I haven't read any for 50 years, so I'm no judge there. I did quite like I, Robot, but again I read it about 50 years ago.
I don't think Project Hail Mary is anywhere near as good as The Martian. Dune is amazing and complex so I think it's a good one to re-read every 10 years or so. On The Beach is great, quite melancholy. I enjoyed Ancillary Jutice but remember very little about it apart from its about living ships which is cool. The Drowned World is the only Ballard I've read but I really liked it. Not read any of the others.
