Thank you so much Mark for this video. I got a Kindle Scribe for Christmas and I love the device. What I like best about your contribution is that it's a mouthwatering presentation of the Scribe and not a summary of all the things that might be wrong with this Kindle (There are more than enough UA-cam videos about that...) So for me your video is the best and most enjoyable introduction I've seen so far. Keep on going! I'm enjoying your channel very much and I'm curious what's coming next from you! Best wishes from Salzburg/Austria, Thomas
Hey Thomas. I’m glad you’re enjoying your Scribe. I think this is probably one of the loveliest comments I’ve had on this channel so far! Thank you so much. And I’m also curious about what I do next 😆 I feel I’m just finding my way at the moment.
Thank you Mark. Loved this video and your updates. Really well presented. Generally I don't absorb tech tutorials well. Im waaaay too easily distracted and pause, rewind, play is a major part of my learning time. However, a few hours in with my new scribe, I am actually likely to remember most of what you said. Cheers
You are so very kind Fiona. It's for people like you that I love to make videos like this! I always think this - I'll present in my style and if it helps, great, if not, they're are plenty of other amazing UA-camrs that might be a better fit. Enjoy your Scribe 😊
I have just received mine yesterday and thought I was impressed. I have now changed the default to write as a fountain pen and I have never loved a device so quickly in my life. Absolutely love this thing. My MSc class notetaking is going to be so much fun now. I just write a whole page of randomness just for the fun of looking at the full page! 😃
Hi Mark from the Spark ✨ Thanks a lot for (all your videos!) this amazing presentation. Questions: 1. when you write something in the notebook, once you fll the page, how do add a new page, or how do you pass to another page? 2. how many pages per Notebook can we add? 3. how many Notebooks can we add? 4. is it possible to export all or individual Notebooks to PDF and/or send those to email or any other device? Cheers!!!
Hey Marko! Thanks for your kind comment about my videos. Here is my best answers to your questions: 1. To add a new page in a notebook on the Kindle Scribe, you tap the top menu while you’re in a notebook and select the notebook overview. From there, you have the option to add/insert pages, giving you more control over your notebook’s layout. 2. While the specific number of pages you can add per notebook isn’t explicitly mentioned anywhere that I looked, the Kindle Scribe is designed to handle extensive note-taking and organization needs. Given its storage options (8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB), the limit is likely high, but dependent on the overall storage capacity of your device and the sizes of your notebooks. 3. The total number of notebooks you can add is also not specified anywhere I can see, but it is influenced by the Kindle Scribe’s storage capacity. The device allows you to organize your content effectively, implying that you can create a significant number of notebooks as long as you have the storage to support them. 4. Yes, you can export your handwritten notebooks to text when you’re ready to share them. This can be done via email, and you have the option to “Convert to text and quick send” or “Convert to text and email” your notebook as a .txt file. Hope this helps! If I’m wrong about any of this hopefully the community will correct me. 😀
@@mark_kelly This is amazing! Thanks a lot once again for amazing videos. And very helpful answer (and fast answer). In the sea of YT content and videos your content is really great and resourceful.
Great video. I just bought one and am looking forward to it! I take notes everyday for work in various notebooks. I think this will help me organize and search my notes. So excited to try it! Thank you.
This is the main reason I wanted the scribe. I keep note paper in all my books with character names on it so when I come back I know who they are if I forget.
Purchased one used...should be here tomorrow...studying for the CPA exam, and will use it at work too for notes...Also, have a ton of Kindle books....thx
Hey thanks! The planner I think you’re talking about is the one I also mention in this video - ua-cam.com/video/J5v4IA5rapc/v-deo.html and I posted the link to the planner in that description. I’ve just checked and the link no longer works I’m afraid! However this is the link to the Etsy seller so hopefully you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ePaperTemplates
I have the Kindle Scribe and like it very much except for one thing. As a reading device it lacks the ability to remove books from the home page to the library where the collections are. Organizing your books is important so the home page isn't being cluttered with new books you have purchased or books you have read but don't need them on the home page any longer. The Kindle App on the iPhone, iPad, and Fire have the capability to remove the books back to the library and into collections. Amazon software writers please help the reader have the control for a more pleasant experience.
You’re so welcome! Quite a few folks asked about the planner so I put a link to it in the description 😀. It was a while ago so I’m not sure whether it will still work - www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1350964060/daily-journal-for-kindle-scribe-2023?ref=share_v4_lx
Hello! My mom is giving me her scribe, which I was thinking of buying but if she has one to give me I will take it! I found your video and this looks great! I don't care too much for tablets personally, and this looks awesome. Great video!
I always show the time at the top of the page. I often read during my lunch break at work and it eliminates my need to look at my watch to see how much time I have left.
Good video. I just bought one with the premium pen. Although a good feature with the button it’s kind of limited as you get one choice at a time. Maybe a double press update would be a good idea for a quick second option.
I'd like to hear more about that PDF downloader you did. It seems interesting, but I am slow and did not pick up what you said about it. Would you be interested in making a video on what to download? ... And other options?
One feature I would love would be integration with Microsoft To Do as I use this feature in outlook to track all my actions. I find myself having to review my notes on the scribe and then adding my actions on my laptop at the end of each day. Do you have an easy way for tracking actions?
Great video, very informative! Thanks Mark for the review. I'm Spanish and I loved your video! I have a little question. Is there any size limit when you export your notes? I want to use the Scribe for note taking and having a limited size is a problem for me. I hope your answer
Thanks for your kind comment and asking a great question! Unfortunately, even after a thorough web search, I couldn’t find any info about note exporting file size - maybe there isn’t one? If you happen to find out please post on here. 😁
Thanks for sharing about Kindle Scribe. I am also considering to buy that kind of device to note the lessons because I think it is more affordable than the iPad or or other normal tablets. However, I am wondering about is there any subscription fees for notes taking and other reasons.
Thank you for this review! I didn't know about the features to send notes to email and the pen button. I've been back and forth about buying this since I have a Paperwhite and I'm still on the fence if it's worth upgrading. I'm wondering if it's too big and/or heavy to carry outside and reading while in bed? Does it feel too fragile?
And thank you for your comment 😀 I think it’s probably a tad too big to be an in bed reading device. Obviously that’s only my view though I’ve heard other reviewers say the same. It’s solidly built and doesn’t feel any more fragile than any other kind of tablet. Just don’t go knocking it around too much or as a replacement hammer and you’ll be fine! 😆
Thanks for the deep dive. The Scribe for me has two separate functions which are unlinked. The notes function (separate from the sticky notes) doesn't interface with my reading function... yet. It also doesn't seem to have Bluetooth 5 to handle modern earphones. I will need to dig about for older Bluetooth earphones and see if this could fix that issue.
It's a great review. I bought my Kindle Scribe today and I have not opened it yet. I am excited to do that. But, before I do, I want to check with you if the handwritten notes are included in the pdf when we export the notes to the registered email. This is the 7:44 section of your video. Can you please confirm?
Thanks so much for your comment! I double checked this morning and yes, when you export your notes via email any handwritten notes you’ve made will appear in the PDF. 😁
Great question! The answer is no 😀 As with all Kindles you only use power when you turn the page (when not using WiFi/Bluetooth/backlight). So having the book cover displayed when the devices is in sleep mode will not use any power. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you for your encouraging comment! I didn’t buy the Scribe when it was first released so I totally get that 😀 I talk about that in this video: The Kindle Scribe: Embracing the Digital Page ua-cam.com/video/J5v4IA5rapc/v-deo.html.
When I go into Device Options (as per your instructions at time 4.27), my menu is different from yours? I was looking for 'Display Cover' to set it on, but it's not an option for me? Any ideas? Thanks.
I found it!! Took a while, its in 'Screen.& Brightness'! How odd it's in a different place than on yours! I'm still learning everything on mine as it's new (I've only had it a week). Doesn't help if things aren't in the same place from different peoples devices! LOL, never mind. Makes me look through the menus and I might find other interesting things.
Love the look of the scribe - I quite like how the case makes it a bit like a flip up notepad, but would prefer a book style open if one exists. I have a Kindle Paperwhite, iPad Pro and Surface Pro - Only thing holding me back from a Scribe or Remarkable etc. is that I've used OneNote as my cross-platform digital note Taking app for about 14 years and I'm reluctant to move away to a new platform. Tried a colleagues ReMarkable and it does feel really nice to write on, I know the Scribe uses the same screen tech - I like the look of the scribe a bit more because I could replace my Kindle
Thanks for your comment Daniel. Reads like you’ve got all the tablets! Maybe a solution might be an eInk device that runs Android (like the Boox, I think) and maybe OneNote might be available? These devices are so nice to write on!
Same here, you could write in the Scribe, export as a pdf and save the pdf into OneNote? I use Ofice lens to photo handwritten notes and import into OneNote
@@mark_kellyI actually just took delivery of a Scribe today so ended up back on your video to get an overview of my new device, and noticed my comment 😂 I’m still going to be using OneNote on my Laptops/Tablets as I use it to collate useful links and info for my various projects etc. I think Scribe will replace what I use Apple Notes for….day to day notes - Anything that needs to be kept long term can be moved to OneNote in my “second brain” notebook, but the long term stuff like links and project info I tend to collect when on my laptop anyway. Scribe should also be able to replace another one of my OneNote notebooks (Which is a bit like the daily planner you showed) Looking forward to lots of distraction free note taking in the new year, as well as doing quite a bit of reading over Xmas - The screen is gorgeous and just feels nicer to read on than my Kindle Paperwhite was
Yes I admit it looks cool, but the price is the same as a decent tablet, which will also do reading and note taking, and then a thousand things more. And the small size of the usual kindle is way more convenient.
I think the fact it's not a tablet means it doesn't have all the distractions of an iPad. I'm interested in getting either a Scribe, a SuperNote A5 or a Remarkable 2 (or possibly the brand new Boox Tab Ultra C with its colour screen!) for taking notes at work, so not having things that would interrupt my work is a good thing.
Thanks Mark. I have a specific question on organising pdf notes in a folder. If I export my remarkable notes as pdfs to my scribe, can I move all of them to a specific folder that I have created?
Great question! It looks like you CAN’T sort PDFs into different notebooks which is a shame! I suppose the best you could do is create a ‘collection’ on the Kindle (like you can do with books) and chuck then in specific ones.
@@mark_kelly Thanks! I did that and the problem with that is that the view options allow you to see only the collection and not other downloaded books, or vice versa. It's quite annoying!
Thanks for your question! I actually put the info for the planner in the description of this video - “A few folks in the comments have asked about the planner I use in the video. You can find that here: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1350964060/daily-journal-for-kindle-scribe-2023?ref=share_v4_lx (This isn't an affiliate link)” I hope the link still works for you as this video was uploaded a few months ago 😀
I think that unless you plan to download audio books you should be good plenty okay with that. In saying that I guess I would always say that if you can afford the extra storage you probably should get it. Enjoy your Scribe 🤩
I don’t believe you’re able to export PDF annotations and mark ups separately to the PDFs. Exporting from the Scribe at this moment in time is just to an email address. Hope that answers what you’re asking! If not, maybe some other helpful individual might pitch in?
Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. Unfortunately I don’t know what to say about this one other than to contact Amazon customer service (via the Amazon app on your phone). Let us know how you get one.

On the pdf planner. When I tap the top of the page, a drop down appears. So I can’t access the links there. But yours didn’t have the drop down when you clicked a link at the top. What am I doing wrong?
I’ll have a look and check out what you’re referencing. I assume it’s the same planner I have? In the meantime, I’ll pin your post for a bit and see what the community might suggest.
if it was a 200 less i might buy it. but i can use an ipad mini . tho writing on it isnt a great experience.same as getting a freewriter. a wonderful idea but too pricy.
That’s not true at all! You can use it on AND offline. Of course when not connected to the internet you wouldn’t be able to sync notes and download new books. 📚
Thank you for replying. I've read so many comments from people who mentioned they had issues accessing their books (previously downloaded on the device) without the internet connection. Will I still be able to take notes and save them in an offline mode?
Thanks for your question. The answer is no you can’t sync a Google Calendar with a Kindle Scribe (the Scribe doesn’t have a calendar only the PDF kind that you might transfer to it). Of course you could sync with a tablet such as a Kindle Fire.
Hey Paula. As it stands at the moment you can only export notes (or drawings) as a PDF. Amazon email a link to the PDF which is available for download for 7 days. If there’s another way to get stuff off the device I’d love to hear about it from folks.
The scribe app is not syncing proper either for me, (missing notebooks in app) and the only answer i can find online from amazon is to delete the note book that is missing, back to remarkable 2 for now i guess
“Why would someone buy a device other than the one *I* approve of? Oh, don’t answer. No matter what you say, I’m gonna try to dunk on you. Have nothing else better to do.” Cheers.
@@mark_kelly The kindle oasis has a 7” display. The base kindle has a 6” display and no extended bezel for buttons. It’s wasn’t really a critique on the video. Was just being humorous
That’s fair. I do suggest ignoring the bezel in the vid I think. Appreciate your reply. Unfortunately text doesn’t always convey the nuance of speech or humour! 😁
Couldn’t even finish the video. The Kindle screen is incredibly slow. I mean even with editing you can’t hide it. Clicks on the highlight a word and ….and… wait for it… Ah Lookup, underline etc. STEP 1: increase overall processing speed. STEP 2 increase screen refresh. (See Boox Tab X). STEP 3. Create a the ability to mark up books not sticky notes. THESE are the most basic and FUNDAMENTAL needs for this device to find a home in my hands EVER. Amazon is sitting on their laurels. It’s very, very sad to see their lack of development. The screen is awesome though.
Appreciate your comments and expressing your thoughts eloquently. The speed I’m not overly bothered by, if at all. In a way it helps me process what I’m writing. I do agree that Amazon needs to try harder and even though they’ve recently released an update with more in the pipeline, they are playing catch up. This is my first foray into eInk note-taking and I’d love to be able try out other devices in this area. Maybe if I can get my sub count up some ad money will pay for new tech! (Oh, and please finish the video, it helps with the algorithm 😉)
@@rush48192 you could still do work on e-inks eg as a student with extensive reading and note-taking. But for that I'd need much better cloud-syncing and a proper file management, which the Scribe doesn't do, but other e-inks have had for ages. And no, I definitely prefer my e-ink over an LED-tablet.
Whoa relax, It's a damn e-ink device for god sake, it's not suppose to be anything like an ipad. It's specifically designed for reading and note taking, THAT'S IT. the slow refresh rate is so the device can last days/weeks without charging. It's not meant to be an alternative tablet option. I use it for taking notes and reading and it's way better than using a regular tablet, no eye strain whatsoever and taking notes feels wayyy more natural like paper and pencil than writing on a ipad screen. This device isn't for everyone, just ppl who ONLY want to read books and write with no other distractions.
You are comparing Scribe to a device that lasts a day on a charge and costs twice as much, it's as if you were trying to milk a bull and then blamed the poor creature for the result.

Doesn't help if things aren't in the same place from different peoples devices! LOL, never mind. Makes me look through the menus and I might find other interesting things.
How very strange! Is it the same software I wonder? I’m glad you’ve found something positive out of it though 😆
@@mark_kellyI actually just took delivery of a Scribe today so ended up back on your video to get an overview of my new device, and noticed my comment 😂
I’m still going to be using OneNote on my Laptops/Tablets as I use it to collate useful links and info for my various projects etc.
I think Scribe will replace what I use Apple Notes for….day to day notes - Anything that needs to be kept long term can be moved to OneNote in my “second brain” notebook, but the long term stuff like links and project info I tend to collect when on my laptop anyway.
Scribe should also be able to replace another one of my OneNote notebooks (Which is a bit like the daily planner you showed)
Looking forward to lots of distraction free note taking in the new year, as well as doing quite a bit of reading over Xmas - The screen is gorgeous and just feels nicer to read on than my Kindle Paperwhite was
Brilliant! Happy Note-Taking and Happy Christmas! 🤩
What is the Etsy store you buy the digital calendar from please? Thanks
This is the link to the Etsy seller so hopefully you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ePaperTemplates
@@mark_kelly thank you so much.
Yes I admit it looks cool, but the price is the same as a decent tablet, which will also do reading and note taking, and then a thousand things more. And the small size of the usual kindle is way more convenient.
Totally get that. But the writing experience really nails it for me. And this from someone who owns all the Apple stuff!
For you
I think the fact it's not a tablet means it doesn't have all the distractions of an iPad.
What daily planner is that? There are so many available.
Thanks for your question!
I actually put the info for the planner in the description of this video - “A few folks in the comments have asked about the planner I use in the video. You can find that here: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1350964060/daily-journal-for-kindle-scribe-2023?ref=share_v4_lx (This isn't an affiliate link)”
I hope the link still works for you as this video was uploaded a few months ago 😀
Wish the scribe had whisper sync!
A shame 😔
Get a fire max 11. That’s a really nice one.
I think sooner or later I think I’m going to have to review a Fire tablet!
My Kindle Scribe will be here today..I got the 32GB version…do you think I should have paid about 25 dollars more and get the 64GB version
I think that unless you plan to download audio books you should be good plenty okay with that.
In saying that I guess I would always say that if you can afford the extra storage you probably should get it.
Enjoy your Scribe 🤩
Thank you for your helpful reply🙂
Hello.
Does it support pdf annotations on non English languages eg imported Arabic Pdfs etc and can we just export the annotations?
As it’s essentially a PDF you’re marking up I would imagine it doesn’t matter what language you’re using.
Thanks for quick reply. What about exporting only the highlights and annotations ?
I don’t believe you’re able to export PDF annotations and mark ups separately to the PDFs. Exporting from the Scribe at this moment in time is just to an email address. Hope that answers what you’re asking! If not, maybe some other helpful individual might pitch in?
In this video I compare a Kindle device to the Kindle app. Watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/CwHwkJZ45rY/v-deo.html
Hi I just bought a Kindle scribe first generation, it says I can't log in and ask for help but it doesn't work... any idea how to fix it please?
Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. Unfortunately I don’t know what to say about this one other than to contact Amazon customer service (via the Amazon app on your phone). Let us know how you get one.

My only huge wish is to be able to hide that "hand" active icon...
Agreed!
@@mark_kelly Actually it's in any pdf. If I click at the top of the page the dropdown appears. If there's a link, it gets covered.
if it was a 200 less i might buy it. but i can use an ipad mini . tho writing on it isnt a great experience.same as getting a freewriter. a wonderful idea but too pricy.
Fair enough!
Is it true that I won't be able to use it without internet connection? That would make it useless on travels and airplanes.
No problem. 😊 I’ve never had an issue taking notes when offline, nor reading books. I’ve never heard of it being an issue in all honesty.
I’m a writer and I want to go from handwriting on the scribe to WORD.
I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean going from the Scribe to a Microsoft Word document?
is it possible to sync calendar in kindle with google calendar?
Thanks for your question. The answer is no you can’t sync a Google Calendar with a Kindle Scribe (the Scribe doesn’t have a calendar only the PDF kind that you might transfer to it). Of course you could sync with a tablet such as a Kindle Fire.
How is the battery life on the scribe?
Depends how much you use it obviously but for me it’s been a few weeks since I topped it up.
And how to get your drawings to a PC?
Hey Paula. As it stands at the moment you can only export notes (or drawings) as a PDF. Amazon email a link to the PDF which is available for download for 7 days. If there’s another way to get stuff off the device I’d love to hear about it from folks.
@@mark_kelly Ah ok. One can then import the PDF into a drawing program and edit it, or export it to other graphic formats. Thanks!
Vs kindle paperwrite?
This is a video suggestion?
The scribe app is not syncing proper either for me, (missing notebooks in app) and the only answer i can find online from amazon is to delete the note book that is missing, back to remarkable 2 for now i guess
Oh, dear. Sorry to read your having issues. I’ve suffered none so far.
Why would one buy this over the BOOX Tab Ultra C, which is in color and has access to all the Android apps including Kindle?
I guess you wouldn’t? But here’s one reason if I may suggest: less distractions? And here’s a bonus thought: I’ve got an iPad for all that.
@@mark_kelly or, you could work on self improvement, not becoming distracted in the first place, and focus on getting the best value for your money ;)
You’re right, I could do that. I think it would be foolish to not always work on improving ourselves. I wish you well and thanks for your comment.
“Why would someone buy a device other than the one *I* approve of? Oh, don’t answer. No matter what you say, I’m gonna try to dunk on you. Have nothing else better to do.”
Cheers.
because the Boox ultra c is waaaayyyyy more expensive.
Let’s compare to a normal sized kindle
*pulls out kindle oasis*
What’s your point?
@@mark_kelly
The kindle oasis has a 7” display.
You cant buy Supernote from Europe - you can blame brexit for this¡! Good video will come back when i get mine
Not sure Brexit has anything to do with it! 😆
…this shows video..very little scribe function n mote taking (?)
Thanks for your comment. I disagree with it but nevertheless thank you for it.
This is an eink device, not an iPad
