BUS tip: The Airport Lothian bus 100 costs £4.50 (March 2019) or Tram £6 (March 2019) - single journey cost Airport to City centre. Consider walking 10 minutes towards the Ingliston park & RIde about 1km distance and from there the bus/tram ticket is only £1.70 single or £4 for an all day dayticket for use on Lothian buses/trams (expires midnight). Perfect option if needing more than 3 buses the same day.
We are coming to Edinburgh in September our son is getting married there.. I have watched you videos and they have been so helpful. We are from United States this is our 1st time to Scotland. Just wanted to thank you for all the great information.
Aaggghhh! Thank you! Please do another video like this one, not so much about updated pricing, but more so it shows up in our UA-cam queues. I’m on my way there in…12 days to meet up with three women I met online to have an adventure. Your videos are my favorite (along with Shawn’s!) and I have bene stalking your videos for months now. Thank you for sharing all the information! I am hoping we all run into you while we’re exploring your Castle and Edinburgh.
Your vids have been incredibly helpful in planning my first visit Scotland early next month. It's a little creepy that I was looking at Google maps trying to figure out my best option to get from the airport to my hotel when your vid's notification popped up. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you, planning to come to Edinburgh for 4 days to show hubby where I was born.. live in Canada but still have ton of family living there... been back once quickly for a day in 2000 ..
Last fall my family took the sleeper train right to waverley station and stayed a short walk away at Craigwell cottage (highly recommend -very lovely place for visitors) so easy! Great video for visitors planning their way as I spent quite a bit of time researching public transportation options before our trip.
My wife and I will be moving to Scotland later this year (2018) and your videos have really helped us figure out where to live, etc. Thank you for your hard work. We just subscribed ;-) Slainte!
C.Rosie Parker wow that’s amazing. Hope all the move planning is going well. It must be an incredible amount of organising. Thanks for subscribing and good luck.
FINALLY, A REAL PERSON, SOLVING REAL PROBLEMS, WITH REAL SOLUTIONS! I truly know this is a year old, I just found your channel in part due to the joint vlog you did with Shaun. But I am certainly now a faithful subbie! I like plain spoken folk. I am a Scots-Saxon descendant, a proud American, and I am sending a big ol' YeeHaw from the heart of the Great State of Texas! Come on over, put your feet up, and have a bite. We love company. ♥
Usally take the tram in, but in March it wasn't going all the way, so we took the #100 bus and were well pleased with it. Let us off a block from our hotel.
Such a GREAT video for information. This really is a good source for those who don't know where they will end up when they choose a transport. It does seem that all roads lead to Princes Street or Waverley Station....because they do.
Thank you for the travel tips! I’m flying into Edinburgh for a week . I do need some advice though. I plan on going to Aberdeen ( ancestral roots there) and MAYBE. Go to Glasgow. I also plan on exploring Edinburgh. Is there a rail / bus pass that would cover bus from leith to city center as well as Aberdeen and Glasgow round trip? I’ll be In Scotland for a week
First, I do want to thank you for letting all of us into your life (and spending so much of it to make theses vlogs)...it is truly appreciated. Plus you are very funny...so informative and entertaining! Second, your wife is adorable (watched the castle ruin one where she said " oh, here a brick, oh and another brick...oh wait, there's another brick!" She made me giggle! I became a subscriber because of that one!) Ok, now my question...you said by l"and and by air" but what about sea? We are coming in on a cruise next May 2020 (God willing and the Earth doesn't burn up before then! We live in LA California and it was 103°...I think that makes it 39.444 degrees Celsius if Google is telling me correctly. Which is I think one degree less than Hades! But doesn't Fahrenheit just sound so much hotter than Celsius anyway?) Sorry, I digress ( Or as you say " I think I went on a wee ramble"...make me smile every time you "ramble" or as we say in our house " sorry, I think I just went down a rabbit hole" or " sorry, I just went down a rabbit trail" or "squirrel" meaning I was talking about one thing but a squirrel just caught my eye and now I have no idea what I was talking about...otherwise known as old age) so back to the question...how do you go from a cruise ship that comes in at New haven. After watching many, many, many of your blogs (did I mention I have watched a lot of your vlogs...it would be a little "stalkerish" if I was not going to Scotland next year and want to find as much info as I can) I think we are going to try and do Edinburgh on our own and not through a cruise ship tour. I want to see the Edinburgh castle (I know, very tourist of me...but it's a stinking castle! Los Angeles was founded in 1781...the most we have are The Missions from 1769 to 1833. I think our oldest stuff is considered your "new town" area if I understood right), the gold bricks in the road, the old wall, the waterheads, the cemetery, have a whiskey tasting, eat in a pub, try haggis...and the list goes on! All in 8 hours! So I need to get from the port to the castle as quickly as possible...and then it's literally all down hill from there. Whew...what do you suggest? Can I see a semi quick tour of castle and still see the grave of the puppy and get in a few closes? By the way, really enjoyed that series and I am only on #4. Do you think the "dungeon tour" is a good one for a brief "weird" Edinburgh history? So much to see and so little time to see it!
Hello. You sound very excited about your trip. Ok, being completely honest... 8 hours is not a lot of time at all. You will be cutting it fine. I would get a taxi or UBER into the centre of town straight away. Its gonna be the the quickest for you. The last i checked there was tours of the castle, they are not quick. But there are personal headsets you can rent to do your own tour. The type where you type in the number that are marked around the place to listen. After that you are just gonna have to do your best to get about the place. Hope you have a great whistle stop tour. Hope the videos don't add to much more to your list. Have great time. Got a feeling you might be wanting to revisit when you are not in a rush.
My wife and I have having a mini break in Edinburgh early in 2023 (our first time there in 20 years) so we are trying to plan our journeys while we are there. We are travelling to Edinburgh by train, so we’ll be using public transport to get around. I see there is a £4.50 day ticket for the buses (central area only) which seems fine, but Is there another charge for taking the tram, or does this day ticket cover the trams too? thanks !
Np i just had a quick search up but the prices are the same i just watch these videos idk why as i know edinburgh in and out kinda but thought to let you know
Can I buy a bus ticket at the airport like the trams have using a dispenser machine? It shows the travel hub is closed at the airport where I would buy a ride card.
once again i want to thank you for posting all this useful information . i will be arriving around 10.00 pm and will be taking the bus to my hotel which is in St. Andrews Sq. looks pretty close on the map, so i though i take the bus. but i m wondering if its safe to walk alone at that time??? most probably it will be around 11.00 pm when i get there. what do you think??
Taxi or uber if you want door to door, or Airport Bus #100 which takes you to Waverly Bridge and Market Street is just round the corner. There is a recent Broonford video on the Market Street hotels so you can judge the short distance. PS Sorry if this is too late for your visit.
This was a very helpful video. Making my first trip to Scotland from America this summer. Do you know anything about the guided tours? We found a 5 day tour that takes you from Loch Ness to the Isle of Skye but it is expensive. Do you think the guided bus tours are worth it?
Hi, it depends on the. Although i think most are quite good. They are usually quite immersive with good tour guides and showing you lots of cool places on the way/ The only risk is the other people you are with on the bus. You are stuck with them for the whole time. Unfortunately i have never done any of them, so i cant give you any first hand knowledge.
Well, thanks for the input! Are you able to get all over with Public Transportation? Loch Lamond, Isle of Skye, Glencoe etc? If so, that may be the best option if we don't do a tour. I don't trust myself with the roundabouts and driving on the left side of the road haha
The Broonfords We are going to Edinburgh around March 15. Will it be really cold? Also ur right about the bus trips. I have end up literally hating one or two fellow travelers at the end of spending 7 days w them. Plus ur forced to go to the restaurants the bus stops at.
I know this reply is way too late for your visit, but I hope you had a great time. Regarding all inclusive tours, you would see an awful lot more this way by being taken directly to all the more important sites with a qualified informative guide, and having meals and accommodation organised for you. Using local transport, especially in the more remote areas, can be time consuming, (and there may be no local buses at all going where you want to visit) as will finding places to eat and stay. The likelihood of there being someone else on the tour that you detest is possible, but unlikely. I live in the Highlands, so I understand the limitations of getting around once you leave the main train and bus routes, unless you have a car.
Hello! We are flying into Glasgow and heading straight for Edinburgh. I think the train to Waverly??? Is it easy to get to Grassmarket from there walking? Keeping in mind I overpack! 🙄
Hi, it’s not far, but it’s up and down a hill. If you overpacked you can get taxis from just outside the station. It’s only a 10 minute walk but you would have to walk through the busiest part of town during the festival. 100% get a quick taxi.
Thanks for your tips...very,very helpful. I would be delighted if you might answer a question: yesterday I called a guy in Edinburgh and I understood only a few words(...say less than 20%! ....I'm a not-native English speaker,of course...) instead I understand you 100%. Can you help me understanding the reason? Thanks a lot.
As per what 'Mr Broonford' said there are several dialects even within Edinburgh . The poshest being Morningside (think Jean Brodie:- ua-cam.com/video/CXA0N55c3iw/v-deo.html ). He will also be tempering his accent slightly (perhaps subconciously) as he is on video.

If the bus or tram stops near to where you're staying then use them. Both have ample luggage racks. If your accommodation is not near the tram or bus then I'd recommend a taxi - Edinburgh streets are somewhat uneven with lots of hills and cobbled streets.
Tony, we are staying at Edmonstones close residence. Grass market/ West Bow/ Cowgatehead. Coming from the Airport which would be better to travel? Bus Train or uber?
The airport bus is probably the best one for you to get. You will still have a little bit of travel (not much) to get to your hotel though. If you look at a map the hotel bus stops at the corner of Waverly bridge and market street. You could get a quick cab or a decent but not long walk from there. Depends on your luggage and how much you trust your sense of dirrection.
The airport bus will get you closest. It’s well within walking distance from where the bus stops. You could also get the tram and get off by the Scots monument. But the bus will be best. 👍

I may have missed the price quote for taxis, but we paid from the airport to Hunter sq on the Royal Mile for approx. 22 pounds.
Thanks, I did not know the taxi price. Thanks for letting me know.
