I seriously don't understand why anyone would have anything bad to say about this talented young lady... El invited her on stage, and when she left, he told her to come back right by his side. She has a beautiful raspy voice, and did a great job considering the fact that she had no idea El (whom she probably admires and adores) would invite her to sing along with him. Shanon you did a great job and this was a beautiful musical moment. And what a talented musician El is!

i love the deepness, runs and riffs of a young lady. i was impressed. and in all fairness to her, i believe they dont rehearse the adlibs for the songs with uncomfortable singing position, she nailed the song.

El has the greatest ear. Everyone was singing and he looked over at the young lady. Watch how he reacts when she caught his ear. I would imagine he called her out because of that special tone she had in her voice. It had a little raspiness in it. Great performance!
Exactly Raphael..that is true talent on both their parts..but El could take the lead and play in her key as he accompaniment to her singing then he to took the mic back n did his thing but called her right back then could go right back into adlib as she sang..that's is a true keen ear for listening cuz he had to understand the key she was in..PERFECT COMBINATION!!
I think El like women that sing with that raspiness in their voice. I'll never forget he brought Chante Moore onto the scene yeeears ago on Soul Train and she had that same raspiness.
The the same thing I said. He heard her singing that backup when everyone was singing the chorus and called her out. I can only imagine how she would have sounded had she not been bending over singing. That's not easy to do what she did either.

Whew!!! I love the way El throws his whole body into the rhythm of the song while playing the keyboard/piano!!! Seeing how well he plays without looking at the keyboard shows that he can tickle those ivorys blindfolded! At approx 4:11-4:40 El emphasizes his keyboard prowess on this song which he himself wrote at age 16! Thank you El...thank you too Shannon for your boldness . I LOVE this video!!!!

I grew up with this song(luckily) and he leaves me speechless everytime.
El sings for 1, 100, 1000, or 10000 all the same way. Always been one of my favorite singers and is my sister's childhood crush😂. The man is talented on keys, bass, and drums. His song Turn the Page made a positive impact on me at a very young age (late 80s) -- and arguably help me move on at a very difficult time in my life.
His music is timeless ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ even my kids listening 🎧 and they are in their 20s and it's 2022
One thing about El and his family, people still have much love and respect for them bcuz they understand the talent niw. Sometimes you don't know what's really good till it's not around anymore. That's why I love watching the video D. J. Quick made with El bcuz he knew he was great and a genius back then! He captured the moment calling him a modern day Mozart! They're high accolades that are well deserving. I hope they give the man what's due to him. He contributed alot to the music world and could have given much more had he not fallen away from the scene but he's still deserving of something in his honor! I don't even think he's actually won a grammy but it doesn't mean he wasn't good enough being as most of that stuff is rigged but if the fans had any say, Debarge would have multiple awards stacked high! I haven't heard many people out of thousands whose commented on utube have anything negative to say about El and his family. That's a true Unsung hero! Love Always El! 💕💋
I know I'm 4 years late but I just read your comment and you hit everything that I was thinking right on the nose. He deserves to be honored. Bet should honor him with an award since he never won a Grammy hopefully he would win one someday but he has to put out another banging album even better than Second Chance (which I still love by the way) but I hope someday he will get all of the awards that he deserves because he is so talented with his handsome self and I wish that people would stop judging him for his PAST drug use since he's been done with drugs for some years now and just continue to keep him and his family in prayer God Bless.
Beautifully stated and oh so true. El is a legend and an icon in music. He produced the entire ‘In A Special Way’ at only 21 years old. We’re talking about timeless/classic songs that will never die and have spawned songs that helped other artists careers take off. Not even getting into all the mental and physical abuse he and his siblings suffered, and the drugs they used to ease the pain. I love El Debarge like family and I really hope they induct him into the R&R hall of fame. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.
Gotta mention... James did his thing too and so did the late great Bobby. May he rest in power.

Bro I'm in tears because I see his face and I can't imagine the fight he's had to win in order to still be able to appear what looks like not just normal but passionate and caring, he's had everything thrown is way, some of it his own fault but still able to showcase such high human qualities, so many would have curled up bitter and mad at the world, yet this LEGEND continues to share his gift with us. I love you EL, you're more than we deserve man.
Wonderful sentiment! Because Eldra is a God-Fearing man. He knows that the only reason he is still here today is because of the Almighty. He says when he was high and on drugs, he continued to pray for God to deliver him. And when he was ultimately sent to prison, he said he was rescued. The man knows from where his deliverance and blessings come from. It was unbelievable to him that after all of the abuse, God kept his vocals intact, so he knew he had to get back out there. When you've been down and out like he was and are so blessed to be given a second chance, humility SHOULD come with that.

Momma loved Debarge music and passed to pancreatic cancer on 1-10-18, I have alot of great childhood memories of listening to Els music. I would practice his music before my own performances with my mother. I have a 5 octave range growing up on this music. Rip mommy I love and miss you so much already😢😢
