- This is a revised version. hope fully done better than the last one. This will give some insight on updating the firmware. I left something out. On the SD Card menu, make sure you export your setting and calibration files before the firmware install, them import the setting and calibration files after the install
Here are a couple of link you will need

Very well explained thank you so much.
My wolf RS-998 arrived today.Another question, what button is used as an enter button.I can add my call sign and Wi-Fi password but do not know how to enter them to the radio..
the director's cut, nice
After removing USB cable .. next?
Hi Mike. Thanks for the video/info. Can you please tell me which vendor did you purchase your RS-998 from? I've seen different versions of the RS-998 on the web. Thanks, and 73 de WA3RSL
Sorry if I missed your comment. I bought from DIYRADIO on eBay because he had the best warranty
This video helped me a lot, thanks.
Thank you very much, this one video is better
You're welcome
Hello Mike,
Looks like a lovely radio, do you know if there is a MARS mod for this model?

Yes, you can open up transmit on all freqs. A simple menu option
Hi Mike, In the middle of the update process my radio went black and powered down. Red warnings in the STM32 program, Lost connection and the screen went black. I can not make any connection with the radio trough the USB-UDF. STM32 says no connection to device. It looks like a brick. Can I undo this? And if so, how can I do it. Now it is a dead 1150 Euro dead box. Please Help.
Mike, would you do an updated video to this revision on your new 100 watt Wolf transceiver that you received a few days ago? Show us how you make the connections and everything to the computer etc. just like you did in this video. Illustrate any differences to the firmware updating process that are different than what you did in this video. Thanks, Gerald - KG0VA
They are same process for both the 20w and the 100w
How do you reset the radio? Having issues and want to return to "out pf box condition"
Press and hold F1 and F8 while powering on
Hello Mike,, I have have noticed that when the temperature of the Wolf goes up the frequency also changes a bit, is this normal for the Wolf or is there something I can do about this? Thank you for always replying so fast :)73 pd1ka
Hmmm. Have not heard of this. Are your fans coming on soon enough. Sounds like the TCXO maybe getting too hot
Thanks for this video, I really wish I had watched this video before upgrading. I did the upgrading via the OTA, succeeded on the STM32 part, but failed on the FGPA part. Now I got a red dead screen shows `Loaded default settings`. Any way to bring it back to normal without a FPGA blaster? Thanks
I think your only choice at the point is the USB Blaster. I have heard there are issues with OTA
Did you find a solution?
@@N4GWhow do you use an usb blaster?
@@kevinspangsdorf-srensen1046 I have to open the case and flash the FPGA firmware manually.
@@kevinspangsdorf-srensen1046 join the facebook wolf group and a lot of help there. I am out of the country for awhile
hi Mike, I have the 20 watt version of the wolf tranceiver. On FM mode I can only talk for a short time and then the fan comes on and the power shuts down. What can I do about this, is it a setting? or is it normal that this happens after about 4 - 5 minutes?
Try changimg the fan settings so they come on earlier. FM is full duty cycle so turn down the power so you are not running at full duty cycle
hi Mike, when I turn on my Wolf tranceiver I get a red screen saying replace bat. I have looked inside the tranceiver but I can't see an internal battery. Can you tell me if there is one or if you are familiar with this error that is showing.
another question. I installed the 9.6 update and after that nothing worked anymore. I set things back to 9.2 and then it was fixed again. Do you know why this happened? Did I do something wrong or is everyone having this issue with the 9.6 update?
73, PD1KA
Sometimes when you update the RF UNIT TYPE in the calibration menu gets reset. Make sure it says RU4PN if the have the RS998. There is a little button battery but I have not opened up the unit to see where it is at
Hello! After updating the firmware (100W version), I lost reception. The waterfall has a signal at the noice level, but does not receive anything else on any band. Have you ever met this one?
Go into the calibration menu and make sure the unit type is set to RU4PN
To get to the calibration menu, you push F8, then push and hold F8 and the calibration menu will appear
@@N4GW Thank's!
Version 9.4 came out so I tried OTA update. It did the same thing as before. It getd to 422k downloaded and stops. I was really hoping this would work
hy Mike is there a user mauwel for the wolf transeiver ? 73'"
There is one in the files section on the Wolf Facebook group. It is not a very good manual but it is a manual
Excuse me, how can I enter DFU mode while the device is turned off
Do you mean your radio will not power on?
Does its WIFI show DX cluster reportings of call signs on the screen with the visual signal display?
Yes
hallo Mike is id the same prisider voor de 9.6 update ..... 73 pd1ka
Yes. The file name is the same
After reading the comments below, I would consider NEVER "upgrading" the firmware
@@7-z7y I am on version 9.6 and may never upgrade again. Others have had issues with version 10 and I don’t want those headaches. I wish the upgrade process was more reliable
sadly it is not available anymore/anywhere
Yes, it looks like the supply has dried up
hallo Mike wat if jou brike jour radio ? is it to fix bij jour zelf ? en hou ?
Did you update STM first then the FPGA second?
@@N4GW am ask mij vrind hi brike his radio am led jou no later oke
