I appreciate his approach of flow and ease of movement compared to some interpretations which are edgy, snappy, maybe even jarring. When I've performed this piece historically it was in a more jarring fashion. I think I like the groove of this approach equally
this is more of the japanese approach. in japan and europe there are still many old-school players who think of the marimba as based on the xylophone, so their approach to technique and articulation has much more crackle than some are used to
