For me it was number 1 😢 and i france 2
At the time I was upset that it only got 7th place, I mean this song is my number 1 but when I rewatch the whole final, I could say that 7th place is the right spot for it, I can't see it overtake any song in the top 6, at least it was 3rd place in the jury so I'm grateful for that.

One thing we don’t talk about enough is that the pressure she must have been feeling was enormous. I know she has bucketloads of confidence but knowing that your country’s government and broadcaster had been staking hundreds of thousands of euros on winning represents a pressure that most contestants don’t have to deal with (let alone an eighteen year old). Being bookmakers favourite 1-2 months before a competition is often a bad omen - and from there the only way is down. That said, she did slay
I've heard she had a nerve breakdown in her hotel room after the final night. They even had to give her tranquilizers. It was just too much pressure put on her back.. Idiots from her delegation persuaded her that she will bring Eurovision to Malta in 2022.

There were just too many good songs in 2021
The song is so repetitive and pop and sounds like an American song. That's why nobody cared. Nothing memorable in comparison to Finnland, Ukraine,Italy and france. These countries got many points because their music represented their country and they didn't go for a mainstream song.

She's got an amazing voice but the problem with me is that the song was missing the eurovision vibe. Her song was very comercial, giving this diva beyoncé/lizzo vibes but we already have that and every single month there is a new song like that. I bet if this would have been an American context, she would have won. If we look at the top 5, only 1 song was in english and it was kind of quirky weird electro vibe and the rest was giving us some folklore/rave techno, a contemporary french ballad song and a very old school french edith piaf song and an italian rock masterpiece..and this is what i enjoy about the festival to see how artist can bring something cultural and variety each year. Loved ukraine and italy this year!!
I agree completely, it performed best in the televotes in Australia, UK, Isreal and Ireland which are the countries you'd sort of expect to have the highest cultural spillover from America.
And to think theyre gonna have the very first American Song Contest next year lmao. Where's the spice and flavor in that I wonder.. Its gonna be generic mainstream songs x50, since they dont have any unique cultural music.

Thing is Malta was a British colony and the even want to stay with Britain but cost too much for the British too keep so they became an independent country but because of practically wanting to be British some ‘British like commercial qualities’ comes through with it I believe. Not the surest tho.

@Les Miserables No even back when it was a bookies favourite I argued that the song wasn’t good enough to win.
Too many different elements involved in the song, and too much going on to really know what exactly you are listening to.
The public would never buy it.
The juries vote for it because they are brainwashed by bookie predictions.
But they ought to ban bookies favourites because it’s bound to influence what the juries vote for in Eurovision.
It creates confirmation bias in which a jury gives certain songs high points simply because they are high with the bookies
If I were Malta, I would send her back next year with a beautiful power ballad, that shows of her impressive vocals, not a popsong and let her grab the tittle.

Malta was actually my favorite, then Island and Ukraine... but Italy and France are good songs! I just hoped that Swiss won't win, I really dislike that song, and can't see why it's even in top 15?! :)
ps I am from Balkans, so Ukraine wasn't unique to me also (we hear that kind of melos pretty often)... so I guess it's just about what music do you/me listen? If you listen pretty much all genres, then nothing is unique to you/me! :D

It's the management the problem of Destiny. She is talented, extremely talented, but treated as a commercial product. It is so desrespectful to her, they let appear her like the typical prodigious young star emerged from talent shows. She's been given a cheesy and banal song, catchy for sure but so commercial, clearly crafted just to be Eurovision friendly. Destiny doesn't deserve this, maltese people, let her time to grow and being more experienced with less pressure, she'll have a great career and hopefully she'll win Eurovision too.

Reasons for the poor televote result were probably:
1) Many uptempo dance-pop songs in this ESC, while there were only 2 hard rock songs - which did both extremely well - and also relatively few ballads
2) Performance order, deep in first half and just behind the Russian song which is also uptempo pop with hip hop/r&b influence
3) A little bit too "American", perhaps, although I personally don't have problems with that.
Now, several weeks after the ESC this is one of the few songs I still keep listening to. So I feel it's a strong pop song, I even like the "collage" aspects in it - it seems like a mix of trends of the past 7 decades, with the sax "drop" being perhaps the weakest element.

The Moment You Realize She Won Junior Eurovision 2015
Her marketing was too aggressive tbh. Sponsored ads saying "vote for Destiny" were popping up literally everywhere. People don't like when someone is in their face all the time. That's why she tanked in the televote. People were just sick of her. And let's not lie she seemed a bit full of herself. You could see she wasn't even happy with the jury votes by the faces she was making. Like her team made her believe she was gonna sweep both the jury and audience and she believed them and when things didn't go her way she was giving bitter smiles to the camera.
I liked the song at first but the ads annoyed me too 😛

She got low televotes because of 2 main reasons. Number one: She was one of the earliest participants in the show, as it is shown to be better to be performing later in the show so more people remember your song easier. Number 2: There were too many other good songs(that the majority of people thought were better) So that mainly those countries took the votes of what could have been maltas, just because they were simply more liked. I think she did just fine, Even tho I rooted for Italy(THANK GOD THEY WON BTW).

I think is time for all small countries participating in Eurovision to realise that a win is a far-fetched dream, no matter how hard they try. This year Malta, San Marino, and Cyprus went above and beyond with their performances and song selections against all odds. The EBU needs to introduce a song festival for small countries of Europe instead of allowing this unfair disappointment to happen year after year. Huge congrats to Destiny for such a powerful performance.
And both Malta and San Marino came up wth bad pop songs. Its not about the size when the song is just bad.

I guess the public wasn't in the mood for a generic pop anthem from a pseudo American diva this year. Hence the televote favouring the likes of Italy, France, Finland, Ukraine, etc.
It's the running order: for example, Belgium gave Malta 2 televote points in the final, whereas 12 points in the semi. It just shows that people forgot the song because of the bad running order. She was 2nd in the 1st semifinal in televoting.
Insisting in presenting american-like songs doesn't pay off in the long term and some people got it. Hence there's a counter-trend that is more rewarding towards those countries that take the risk singing in their language and more originale arrangement.
