You can still appear on Tiny Desk if you do not meet any of these requirements, but the performance will be labeled "special." There are only two other kpop "idols" that has performed in Tiny Desk Korea and both are labeled as special so technically, they're the first kpop group that passed these requirements.
@@anagodinho3993 I think it's the familiarity of having that tool to help you. I believe you get instant feedback on your performance, so you know how you are sounding at any given moment. You're right in that they probably don't need it for tempo or any music cues in such a close setting.
No post production I understand but what's the significance of using shotgun mics? Genuinely curious. What's the difference to using, say, Shure SM58's? EDIT: i only had to read a few comments down and the question is answered.
Lily and Haewon sounding exactly like the records, Bae being a such a good technician with her voice control, Jiwoo adding the perfect accents to her raps and singing tone, and Sullyoon and Kyujin being soooo stable in their singing, love this group so much. Can't wait until they go on tour again, but with a live band.
I 100% see why Lily and Haewon are both the main vocalists of the group. Lily gets a lot of big belty moments, but the way Haewon is so strong, and pretty, and amazing. She is main vocals material.
The Lily and Haewon duo, being on opposite ends from one another and how they played off each other with their harmonies, ad-libs and responses. Just absolutely phenomenal. Everything about this was just so satisfying. Not every group can get up there and do this, but NMIXX are one of the few.
Whats even crazier than this live raw performance without post production whatsoever? Is this: Tiny Desk usually use dynamic microphones, which is the usual "stage" mics like this -> 🎤 . However for NMIXX's performance, they used small diaphragm condenser microphones. These are usually used in more of a studio setting. These type of mics are used to capture the purest and most natural form of sound, without any added color. These mics will are meant to pick up a wider range of sound even more so than regular condenser mics. This is why if you listen closely, you can even hear them opening and closing their mouths, as in the sound when their lips open and close. That's how sensitive these mics are. So the choice of using these types of mics could go either risky, or brave. But in this case, its sonic perfection 👍.
NMIXX is one of a kind, true all-rounders, they can SING without any accompaniment if necessary, dance? watch their dance practices, and they're entertainers besides that as well. Born to be in the spotlight wherever they go. Without comparing or demeaning other groups or artists, I want to say that NMIXX has a complete different path and is looking way behind the 7 year contract, 1 year of an average K-POP group is equal to 3 years for NMIXX, they're in no hurry with releases, they're working on their skills, their music and most importantly having the time of their life on every stage, and that's why they're so loved.
I know this may not fit her silly personality, but the Love is Lonely Haewon performance is why i want to see her voice over a Disney princess at some point. She has such a magical and sweet quality to her ballad performances.
This was such a treat for fans! I have also been seeing casual fans in the comments wanting to dive further into Nmixx because of this performance! It’s so nice to see them turning some heads. Anyways, love y’all’s reactions as always ❤

It's basically a music show win encore stage with the expectation that you sound great (and we all know how some groups have fared with those performances). I think the risk will be too much for even the groups that consider themselves as "vocal" groups. I can see maybe a vocal line of a group try this, but a whole group, probably not. Paul Kim, an accomplished soloist who performed on tiny desk, even said he had to think about doing it due to the requirements, and said that it reminded him of his busking days. NMIXX is truly going places where their contemporaries can't follow.

I hope the success of this leads to more groups doing it but to be brutally honest I don't think there are a lot of them that can hang to this level with any great confidence so I'm not sure I expect to see everybody beating down the door. It is hard to go back to the more common special live performance settings in k-pop though, the amount of post-processing at times was already rough but watched back to back with this is just so revealing. This sounds so open and airy, and going back to watch some IVE - I Am (who are no slouches, mind you, so I'm not criticizing the group themselves) performance felt borderline claustrophobic after everything had been corrected and squeezed to within an inch of its life. As somebody with experience in production and audio engineering I'm probably more sensitive to that than most, but I feel like even most normal listeners can feel the difference even if they don't necessarily know what they're hearing or how to articulate it.
You want more groups to do this, but there are maybe one or two other girl groups (past or present) that could even pull this off. Every member singing flawlessly, with no backing and no earbuds all in one take. It's unheard of. Lots do the It's Live show, but it's just not the same as this. These girls are all extremely talented, and I hope they achieve the success that they deserve. JYP knocked it out of the park with this group.

Love is lonely moved me for real. Such amazing singers, yeah, okay but such amazing interpreters which is so hard to do. Being able to deliver emotions through singing it's by far one of those things you just can't do just by singing well, it's about dynamics and mastering different singing skills ❤

Besides Nmixx, there aren't many other groups that can perform here. Those with underdeveloped members are out. Neither are those who have ever sung live, without lip-sync, only on shows with a lot of post-production (Killing voice, it's live, etc)
