I swear Dan would be the easiest target for a timeshare scheme
This is so funny
like actually though
Only if it was time unshared 😌
But then someone would be clogging his pipes when he's not there.
@@TheDuzx You get the place year round and you only pay 5x per month, and it's 200 sqft
This is a certified steel is heavier than feathers moment
im pretty sure the fiber line is a scam for boomers "you are the only one on the internet" is such for-boomers terminology
Nah its for businesses only 😂
Idk, maybe they are, but where I live they tend to oversell in an area where they don't actually have enough bandwidth to supply everyone at the advertised speed. You get slow ass service and it's not technically a violation of the contract because they advertise UP TO a certain speed, with no guarantee of average. Having a dedicated line might make a difference. That said, $400/mo for 20 megaBITS is obviously insanely bad.
@@benreber6321you are correct. Consumer plans can vary by how busy the total network is, Dan is just falling for the sales pitch for the business line lol, it wouldn't go down that much with traffic.
Oh my gooood so true! 😂 it’s literally the “son can you turn your Wi-Fi off, your mums laptop is slow” (she’s on word not even using the internet)
@@benreber6321 There is no such thing as a dedicated line.
Most egregious part of this whole video is how Dan pronounced egregious 6:11
Don't worry, that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Danglish
He pronounced it the Ryan Gary Letourneau way
Non-canadian here. I didn't even know there was such a word. I thought it was "outrageous". I can't even believe they're not one and the same word... how does that work?
@@artiIIerycrusader Egregious is pretty much the same as outrageous but slightly more negative.
@@theCometPM Egregious also means blatant. Id use it to mean both simultaneously.

Literally every time I've seen Dan in any video he's been confused about something
Guy that doesn’t know a single thing about
Librarian, your thumbnail game is still on point after all this time.
I want to make sure your appreciated for your work :)
What i don't understand is how a dedicated FIBER line is only 20 mbps? Shit is literally the speed of light. The company is fucking up somewhere if that's the best they can do, even if it is dedicated.
they got gophers eating all the dang photons
Internet companies are so cooked man. I think it's possible for your router to be a point of slow down but I'm not sure
@@verkhvo +2 that shit was funny thanks
It's possible Dan doesn't know what he's talking about. It kinda sounds a lot like ATT dsl. They also offer fiber in the Detroit area but not everywhere.
So there are different types of fiber, this being a high bandwidth, long distance line is why the speeds are slow. Yes the speed of light is true but its how data is interpreted in that long distance line. Think of it like a long distance 16 lane highway in a crowded city. Yes many people are using it the same without the city exploding but its still not very fast.
The beauty of this video coming out in 2024 with Dan and the egg both playing isaac

If you'd asked me before this video, I would be pretty certain you couldn't even get fiber as slow as 20 down.
always love when librarian covers dan content
ain’t no WAY he actually has that plan
Fiber installations are already dedicated lines. They run a big ol bundle along the poles and split one/two off for you. But labs have put literally the entire bandwidth of the internet down one of those fibers. So you could share that thing all day if it had the right hardware on each end
I have Comcast and have 400 mbps down but a measly 8 mbps up (and I usually don't even get 8). This is $60 per month. I uploaded a 15 minute 4K video to UA-cam and it took near two hours to complete. Whenever I complete a personal photo project, it takes a long time to backup to the cloud and upload small images to my blog (I never timed these).
If I want to get even 20mbps up, I have to get the gigabit down package ($100) which I don't need. Then there's the Comcast business packages and it was flippin' $80 for a 20mpbs up and down connection. And that's for one connection; I have no idea if there's a minimum amount needed to get a business package. Ridiculous...
I remember playing a MUD circa 2001 and we would raise money in-game for the owner of the game for a dedicated t1 line. This was $400/month... in 2001.... for 1.5mbs. But the line was way more stable than commercial faster lines, which is important because it was accepting 500 (very low data per player) connection at the same time and sending data every 0.1s or so.
shoutouts to MUDs and MUSHes and MUCKs
my only exposure to dan is via streaming, how on god’s green earth did he win big brother lmfao
I never watched Big Brother EXCEPT for the BB10 Dan supercut. Highly recommended he is GOATED
not only did he win big brother, he's widely considered the best to ever do it

Another thing to consider is possibly data security i imagine there are some buisnesses who thats a huge consideration and they can afford a large internet bill

Earlier In the sales department:
"I bet you can't sell anyone a 20mbps internet for $400"
Dan is the perfect person
Chib would be, if he was real
man the thumbnails are so good
Networking admin here. You pay a lot for an SLA connection where you can call someone who gives a crap if your internet is down. Usually an SLA will be some sort of nines uptime. So like 99.99999% uptime type stuff is 5 nines.
I should sell internet in the USA.
Good luck, they'll sue you ass for not being a monopoly already lmao
You don't need to be the only person on the fibre line. It won't go above 20 even if you are the only one. You won't get faster than 20. Consumer is 400, even if 40 people are on it it's still faster.
You can definitely tell Dan was on reality TV
He wasn't just on it, he ran that shit
Strong thumbnail
I can kind of understand that price if you have to pay down the cost of the line install and then the price goes down but 450 a month for 20 mbps is wicked bad, its insane how they advertise that as a business speed.
Banger thumbnail.
Am not gonna pretend to understand this shit. Am just gonna say "Dan Lul😂" and be happy.
NorthernRyan with the little Rick Mercer Talking to Americans reference at the end, truly Canadian.
isn't xfinity what comcast rebranded to after they got too much flak?
The recent NL blazing memes and now Truly Humble Under God is peak internet frfr
bothmath is paying 10x as much for 1/5th the internet but your bill has the word "business" on it
There is an argument for business fiber: service level agreements.
If your net goes down with business you have a tiny lever to try and get them to love faster. But you gotta read those damn contracts.. ..
I actually think if i was a content creator i might consider getting both. I imagine the business Internet has much better up time, and it could be helpful to upload videos while streaming for example. That said, if i had to pick one, definitely the consumer
20mb is bad? Meanwhile Im still pogged whenever I connect to a network that isn't measured in kb/s. just rural things
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYINGGG, except my ass ain't in the countryside, my net's just dog doo doo
I’m cyanide pilled rn
I have consumer 1 Gbps fiber for $70 a month in the midwest
Yeah thats business rates.
I'm stunned. 20mbps is crazy low. 449 a month? It should be that a year and even then it's too much. I have fibre and its 150mbps and its £20 per month. That's about $25. And I got the cheapest one 😅. I could get 900mbps for like $60 per month. America man.
i love dan
Dan would die if he went through with the 20mbps speed. Even it was always max speed, that's about 4mb/s download speeds. Yes, your speed wont be 500mbps, but itll take way more to weigh it down. Not even mentioning it being split between family lmao
We had a max of 40 and it was the worst shit ever
My stepdad works IT at NASA and their download speed is like a few terabytes/second
thumbnail goes hard
I think people really underestimate how expensive symmetric business connections are. He's also probably getting a guarantee of up-time and a set timeframe in hours for expected repairs rather than waiting days/weeks to get a tech out there. My quick look says ATT is charging upwards of 450/month for a 10 Mbps dedicated so I think he's getting a reasonable deal actually. A consumer connection is gonna have downtime no matter what and you're completely at the mercy of the telcom to get it fixed on whatever schedule they deem necessary.
Do you guys not have minimum guarenteed speeds in America? Here in the uk you get a minimum speed and if it goes down or below that speed you get money back and free 5g as a replacement
Would you rather pay to use a smooth straight highway that others can use, or a tiny dirt road only you use? I think the answer is clear
I have Xfinity currently, live in a big city, its never gone down once.
"sell me this -pen- *20mbps internet for $400/month* "
Good lord, I pay €28.50 a month for 300 up and down here in Belgium
Once again, amazing thumbnail lol
I'm paying $125 CAD per month for 1.5GB up and down... IN RURAL CANADA
I'm late to this, but hearing "20 MegaBYTES" is making me laugh, cause internet companies don't do that, they sell BITS. Which are smaller than Bytes. So it's LESS than 20 Megabytes. Imagine paying $400 for 2.5 Megabytes. I can't even BELIEVE that. NL knowing that it's bits over bytes is just icing on the cake.
Maybe a dedicated 60-80 mbps up/down businesswould be worth it, it's similar enough to 100 mbps up/down with traffic, ensuring reliability, but 20mbps is just ass. Can he even stream on it?
20 MBps for that much money is a scam. I live in a developing country and 30 MBps here isnt even close to 80 USD.
The Internet market in the US seems so insanely cooked...
Can someone explain what “we goin rashomon” means? I tried to google it and it’s just an old Japanese drama movie?
Its called the rashomon effect. It basically means the details of event can get misconstrued due to unreliable witnesses (aka chat giving different answers)
@@atomknight8361 tytyty
Bro I pay 80USD for gigabit internet and I get 55 mbs on steam downloads. No way this dudes getting roped into 400$ for 20mbs ☠️
How the fuck is dedicated fiber only 20/20??
I cannot watch dan because i dont know when he is troling
Let's gooooo!
Ok, first of all megabits and megabytes are different, they both kept swapping them. Speed is traditionally measured in bits. Storage is usually measured in bytes. Your harddrive or RAM might have gigabytes of capacity but your fiber network is a gigabit connection, for example.
1 byte is 8 bits. The notation for bytes is B and bits is b, lowercase. Mbps is megabits per second. Some providers have started confusingly using MBps meaning bytes per second, and you need to multiply that by 8 to get the usual number. The chart he showed did seem to be in bits, and is possibly some kind of edge case service for low data connections that have guaranteed uptimes for like POS services or whatever. Otheriwse it makes no sense. You're probably paying for them to trench and service a dedicated line.
That shit is wack. I'm on 400-600 mbps internet for the equivalent of $30ish a month... dedicated and everything. Just for yourself.
USA broascast and telecommunication prices are about 3x compared to similar countries due to smart businesses making the most of privitisation and innovating new money extraction methods constantly.
It's not the same as FTTP business lines though but Dan is silly for thinking he needs that anyway
@@Akixkisu I was about to say "more like 10x", but my 400 mbps internet for 40€ is actually 200x times better (10x cheaper and 20x times faster). It's insane.
@@suakeliBusiness lines are completely different animals than consumer stuff. Dan has regular comcast there it sounds and thats a gigabit for about 60 bucks a month.
How is Dan even asking this question what the hell does he think the internet is? He actually is acting like it's a series of tubes...
the internet is not- the internet is not a big truck. the internet. it--it-it's a series of TUBES!
I don't want to sound like an idiot but if you're paying for 100 down, surely you should be entitled to 100 down, no matter how many houses they serve in the area??
Not sure about America or even other parts of canada, but where I'm at it's worded as "Up to x mb/s". They don't guarantee you'll always have that, and what a shocker, you never do lol
Starlink hello?
FTTP to the premises is garbage. (It's not but it's like specific. Get a fucking starlink if your Internet is THIS bad)
