That was before Honda went red on the paint job. I think that Elsinore was a CR-125, but I had the CR-250. Those things were ~screamers~. Again, I loved this video.
Love this video, watched it 5 times now and its always good! I just bought a 1986 XR200 as a fixer upper and am looking so forward to riding it thanks to you!
The very first dirt bike I rode by myself was a 1982 XR 200R. I wasn't tall enough so I had to start on the kick stand and just drive away and then kick it up. LOL! PAUSE: I need to thank you for commenting on the Corduroy, an enduro I pre-ran, and swept, and worked checkpoints as a kid. My uncle started the race with some friends in 1953 at the dead end of Kingston Road @ the Rouge River valley and he competed on a BSA with 2.5” of suspension travel. He (Don Charters) passed away in April 2020 at 94 years old. He was the longest lived of his crew as all his friends passed over a decade before him. He was and remains a HUGE influence on me and is the main reason I still ride.
As you probably know, we have massive amounts of respect for riders who are still out there in their sixties, seventies and beyond... I bet Don was one of them! ua-cam.com/video/PFVe7nMB7us/v-deo.html

We have a 1993 xr200 that started life as my daughters bike. We later put a supertrap slip on spark arrestor for a drop of more power. We later installed longer xr250 forks with front disc brake and longer xr250 rear shock, (ebay). This made the bike more fun for everyone to play around on as a camp bike. After all these years and many other racing bikes have come and gone...this bike still remains. Great camp bike...very Bulletproof and anybody can ride her.....she is known as Rhonda. 1st gear is unstallable and 6th gear on 2track trails plenty fast. No power really just fun😉

@@crosstrainingenduro There was a time when my bike was out of comission mid weekend so I took Rhonda on a big bike ride for laughs😆. I surprised a couple of slower riders in our group when I passed them on the easy stuff🤣

I recently bought a mint 1983 XL250R and I absolutely love it. It is 33 years old and everything works perfect (besides for the high beam indicator). I seriously doubt that any bike bought today will still be around in the year 2049. I know the new stuff has way more power and handle better. But even on the new Honda atvs I can see a huge decrease in the long term durability...... But all this aside, I really enjoy these videos.
Great video. XR 200 is usually the go to bike for newbies here in Brazil, they get to learn enduro riding on this beast! But the dream of any new rider is the POWA of a TTR 230 or a CRF 230. 'Imported' 250 or 450 bikes are for chickens who can't handle the native bikes.

I have a 2001 xr 200! And, i love that little bike. Honestly prob one of the best trail bikes ive ever rode. It could use a little more power, but that can be solved with a simple header n pipe. And to get them exactly right, a sprokit set of your # choice to make the power to weight ratio right for yourself and you have one of the toughest funnest bikes you will ever ride!!!

A friend convinced me to ride one of those and I was hooked. So much fun I bought one. Keep the cam chain adjusted and change the oil often. Honda failed to use bearings on the cam so the heads get galled requiring a kit from an aftermarket company. Also, the rear shock is not rebuildable.

already back from canada but just pumping out a pile of vids in the mean time, can't wait to get back there next year for a bit of blokes world in the northern hemisphere....
obviously this is totally ironic - but I have a XR 200 - bought new ten years ago and though it may not be a KTM 250, or a Beta 430 - it is still a bike that has never let me down over 40K kms around the Philippines - and nearly always ridden like it was stolen. Can you do some videos on how to upgrade/renew the suspension, install new cam chain tensioners and guides and other critical thinking stuff...valve tuning?...love all your videos...this is the best channel on youtube...the DR 650 stuff is worth it's weight in gold!!!
Mabuhay Anton! I usually only film that XR200 when I get over to Canada occasionally... unfortunately I don't think there are enough of these bikes left to warrant a detailed mods vid, it would be pretty low on the list if I ever started a video series about mods on various bikes. 😢 And I only did the DR650 stuff because the guy doing all the mods for local riders was keen to do the video series.
I've got a xr100 and a xr500r and I can personally say that the old Honda xr's were a great bulletproof bike with so much power that they were dropped from production due to lawsuits from being to powerful.
Funny. I have the same exact bike. I actually chose this one over others because of the reliability and simplicity. I ride single track mostly, and prefer not to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere. The brakes suffice especially with the engine braking. plenty of power to have a great time, but not too much to get into trouble. and like 220lbs dry so fairly light weight and easy to pick up. The weak point imo is the front forks. In stock form they are damping rod. I installed the race tech gold valves and progressive springs and now the front suspension feels equal to the rear. I've owned newer bigger bikes and had LESS fun than I do on this. Also easy to work on and they made the engines for many years.. because they were bulletproof.
It's hard to watch this while laughing so hard my eyes are just continuously watering. The comments about Jarvis and Walker just put it over the top. I remember now my brothers 82 XR250 had those dual PRO LINKS and you could jump that bike like twice as high as my 3.5 hp Briggs hard tail minibike. Thanks for making this vid!
Love it. I ride a 125 honda with drum breaks and it's not reasuring when someone pulls out in front of you unexpectedly. But I haven't crashed yet. ;-)
G O L D!! Barry are you Dr Who?? You just took me back to 1990 the fresh smell of a brand new Xr200r, power that could also change the space-time continuum, suspension that made bumps bumpy and brakes that worked out of the box and then needed immediate adjustment. That said still absolutely one of my favorite bike ever.
I got a full rebuilt 95 xr200 with crf forks for disc I’ve made a heap of hot motors for xrs heap more power and still reliable My current motor I’m building is using a Yamaha xt225 piston 71mm I’ve put a oversized liner in barrel and 2mm oversized valves the head is the tricky bit I’m still finishing valves are to big they are touching each other I’ll hopefully have it back together soon and local bike shop is going to dyno it
If there is a dirt bike to have as a fall back bike for trail riding its the xr200r. I use one as a training bike. It never lets me down and with basic maintenance is bullit proof. I don't have to put countless hours on my race bike. The bike in my picture is a crxr200 conversion best combination for new england technical stuff.
physics defyingly rapid mark, we suspect it's something to do with black holes and eddies in the space-time continuum (eddy went missing a few months ago).
My dad had a 1980 xr200r. Think it was the first one with pro link. Was the first full size bike I ever rode. Bought a 1983 xl250 for nostalgic reasons in 2000. Not quite the same but close enough. I actually did think it was really fast ( in 1986. Might have had to do with the fact I couldn't touch the ground.
+Travis Sharon It is true. It was an xr200R the last R makes all the difference. The regular xr was a play bike and the xr -"r" was the professional enduro.
+Rick Swift hmmm, it appears you are correct. I didn't know that there was more than one model of the xr200 back then. still the 84 xr200 was a solid bike, I rode the hell out of that thing, and i would still recommend it to a new rider. It was nearly as capable as its 02 counter part that I owned briefly.
This video killed me. Absolutely hilarious. And to think all along I owned the most powerful bike on the planet. Erroneously, prior to gaining this understanding, I bored it and honed the cylinder head. Nay, I contend there was even more power to be had? Now I know why my knuckles drag on the ground for a week after riding, this thing pulls man, it pulls! I'm ordering an anodized fuel cap though, not sure if I picked anything else up from your videos but, the subliminal man keeps telling me to buy that darn fuel cap! Keep the videos coming! Great tips and cool to watch you guys do things in your videos that are really tough that you just make look easy.
i suspect the modern way to access this killer engine is the AJP bikes as they used slightly updated XR250 engines, philip. another 50cc? sounds like suicide to me.
People here use it for dirt riding, they put a bigger bore on the engine(230cc) new plastics, some work on the suspension and there you have it, a cheaper crf230
You need to do a comparison of all the old suspension, that would be hilarious. Full floater, uni trak. We need your expert analysis to enhance our bike knowledge.
Excellent idea. Never had any clue on what ''Pro Link'' meant until now. But I know for sure that nothing bad (hmm, hmm) can be said about the Full Floater, except for the 4 clicks rebound adjustment. Never been able to decide between click 2 and 3. It was either too fast or too slow. Bummer! I have a similar feeling about my ''wide ratio'' 5 speed exc tranny. In many sections, first is too low and second too high. The guys who designed these things probably were trapped in a theoretical bubble and never tested their nonsenses.
I’ve been looking for the elusive secret X-R 200R or XR 250R for a busy bike, any news on one might do some good to my friends ridding past me on my Husky FE 501.
Small brain and penis but a big appreciation for the absurd? See our silly vids collection!

Still one of the most reliable bikes and the toughest as much as how funny this video this bike is just the most hard to destroy bike
It's always more fun to ride a small light weight bike fast through technical terrain than a fast bike slow.
exactly
That’s an infair advantage.. you even have 2 shocks in case one fails.
I noticed you still can’t pull away from Beta colors!
Well I reckon riding a fast bike fast beats both

I had that bike it was a blast never had brakes, just down shift and flintstone it. But a fun ride all day
I've got a xr100 and a xr500r and I can personally say that the old Honda xr's were a great bulletproof bike with so much power that they were dropped from production due to lawsuits from being to powerful.
this is true. even the honda 50 is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands: ua-cam.com/video/5Z8TyytT8OE/v-deo.html
Made my day! Lucky I haven't had any kick back yet!!
i was putting off buying an old bike but you just made me want one
our group has been thinking of buying an old dirt bike, just to show you can do most of the same things as on a modern bike.
Do you have trouble starting it or are there any major problems
You should review the crf230f. Essentially an updated version of the xr200.
I agree. In the fun/$ factor, it's hard to beat.
My uncle has one they are bitchen awesome
I'm howling. How did I miss this vlog!?!?
Also easy to work on and they made the engines for many years.. because they were bulletproof.
no school like the old school chico :)
Here in Peru still sell the XR250 "Tornado" for $4000, 1 year warranty. 9 kgs lighter than crf250L
Stops under 2 minutes!? Incredible xD
as long as you weren't in third gear or higher... yes!
If I cant get my wr250r review video this will have to do. Good stuff.
That QA50 at the start! Same as my first bike except mine had a red tank not blue.
the red ones were faster.... 😁
That said still absolutely one of my favorite bike ever.
you definitely have to watch out for those worm holes in space-time, very hard to bunny hop those little buggers.
you Aussies always have to have the absolute latest and greatest machines. jeezz
I got a full rebuilt 95 xr200 with crf forks for disc I’ve made a heap of hot motors for xrs heap more power and still reliable
My current motor I’m building is using a Yamaha xt225 piston 71mm I’ve put a oversized liner in barrel and 2mm oversized valves the head is the tricky bit I’m still finishing valves are to big they are touching each other I’ll hopefully have it back together soon and local bike shop is going to dyno it
Love this . I rode one when they just came out and thought it was everything you described. :-)
I had an 81 200r that was so much fun
My old xr 600 98mod was awsome in the bush back in the day
If there is a dirt bike to have as a fall back bike for trail riding its the xr200r. I use one as a training bike. It never lets me down and with basic maintenance is bullit proof. I don't have to put countless hours on my race bike. The bike in my picture is a crxr200 conversion best combination for new england technical stuff.
I keep my xr 250 as a reminder of the low power experience, its all fun, just different.
70 MPH with almost no throttle??!! That thing is FAST!!
physics defyingly rapid mark, we suspect it's something to do with black holes and eddies in the space-time continuum (eddy went missing a few months ago).
I had a xl250, the gearbox blew, so I got a kdx200, tho I still have the Cl and want to ride the beast again!
can't be true, I have an 84 xr200, it doesn't run anymore... cause I used it to death, but it had rear dual shock.
+Travis Sharon rock solid bikes for sure. I just posted a vid on my channel of the xl250 I spoke of. Check it out.
Great video....keep em coming..
Lo-fi or not, this one's a favorite cuz it reminds us why we ride 👍😁
The guys who designed these things probably were trapped in a theoretical bubble and never tested their nonsenses.
bring back the hard tail bikes i reckon, the old riders all say suspension is for riders in skirts
You should have tested the high performance dual carb 1985 XR200. They had to quit making it cause it was taking sales away from the CR500 model
given how lethal the single carb model was, there's no way we would have the skills to handle two carbs. ua-cam.com/video/or30gg93xNk/v-deo.html
More fun than you'd like to admit.
i have 1984 xr200r and wr450f, but xr200 goes in the tie woods smooth ride yes the brakes are not the best, but still nice bike to ride
I had a 2002 xr200 and I could not get the front wheel up but on this one it looks easy
Just convinced me to buy one!!! Ha ha great video guys!!!
excellent choice sir, just remember to upgrade your life insurance too 😊
Well... Cancel my previous comment, the guy wasn't interested in my $300 offer. Damn....
And I was really looking forward to the power supporting my extremely large gonads.... Ha ha!
I’ve been looking for the elusive secret X-R 200R or XR 250R for a busy bike, any news on one might do some good to my friends ridding past me on my Husky FE 501.
I love you guys 😂 . Keep up the videos!
