For those just watching, you don't need to buy a fancy house/barn for the tubes. Any enclosure will work as long as it keeps the tubes/reeds and cocoons out of the rain. Natural reeds are best for solitary bee nesting.
I've had my bees about 3/4 years now and I didn't do anything he said, I just put the bees that come in the tube in that top portion of that house, didn't convert any of that middle portion either, no scent packet, they are doing great!
a true bee leafer .. I had to say .. thanks for the video I actually just discovered a Leaf Cutter bee outside my front door today and I hope it sticks around . It is placing its leaves inside the tubes of my railing.. I will not disturb and hope for the best
I have the same house. You store the cocoons in the bake of the house that is why you have the slots on the top of the house so when they hatched they can go out
Gotta respect the Bee's. Wonder if these leaf cutter bees are more resistant to the horrible mites thats been killing bees left and right. Curious to see how they work for you this season and if you get them to survive through the winter for next season.
Don’t buy that house from Costco! Extremely disappointing. It doesn’t come apart to be able to harvest and store cocoons. Completely pointless bee house. It’s all glued and nailed together. It’s designed not to be disassembled. Do not buy!
He only disassembled the inner block portion. The bamboo reeds are glued into the back of the house, and cannot be opened for harvest even if they weren’t glued. In just 2-3 seasons, you’re going to have chalkbrood killing your developing bee larvae. @@Sabrina-zf7xg
Exactly @ReefMimic! This Costco house was my first house, but I didn’t know anything about bees at the time. Once I learned more about raising solitary bees, I immediately set up a “moving day” for my bees. That spring, I put the Costco house in a paper sack with a hole in it, right under a new house with removable reeds. Hatching bees can get out of the bag, but not back inside, so they go to the new house instead.
That house is no good for bees because the reeds can’t be removed, so you’ll get chalkbrood and future bee larvae will end up dying. Get a better house from somewhere like CrownBees.com and they sell bee cocoons as well.
Sorry that I had to give you a thumbs down. Your enthusiasm is fantastic but it blinded you from gathering correct information before making this well thought out presentation .hopefully you have learned more but please feel free to ask what I see.

Thanks for all this excellent information. Much appreciated now that I have Mason Bees and Leafcutter bees. I have SUBSCRIBED!
Awesome, thank you! Happy to see others trying this out too

That’s really cool. I’m interested in what the next step is once they hatch...

humm. might think about it..if it is that simple. and not to expenseive.. left a like
Is it okay to use plastic pipes instead of hollow bamboo stalks for Leaf Cutter Bee house?
Might be kind of hard to harvest the cocoons, if you intend to do that.
For how many hours a leaf cutter bees can be kept closed in a pipe or straw

✌💪💪💪💪💪👏👏👏
Are leaf cutter bees the same as mason bees? I have 3 houses for them and I have lots of activity in 2 of them. I have mason bees that are using mine.
My question was before I listened all the way through. Thank you.
Oh man, I’m doing this. I wanted bee houses, I wonder if it’s too late into the season to start with eggs 🤔...edit, ah yeah, sold out 😿
i'm about to and summer is when the leafcutter bees LOVE!
Where to buy the leaf cutter bees and the house?

I bought mine at Home Depot in the Garden section and they also have the house and supplies on Amazon.
