If found a nest in my garden the more I learn the happier I become. This was so helpful!

I sit in Zoom/Teams meetings all day at work for 50 hours a week but I decided to watch this on the weekend to educate myself as I will be a new leafcutter bee owner soon, well worth the watch. Thank you!

Thank you, Robert! We're so glad you found it helpful. That "How to Raise Bees" tab on our website will help to fill in any gaps.

I have been raising mason and leafcutter bees for the first time this year. They have been fantastic to watch. Crown Bees have been great help. I would encourage everyone to try raising these.

I know there are native mason and leafcutters in florida, but we don't have a cold season. How would I get into keeping these?

Though you're in a warmer, southern state that just means your Mason bee season may start a little earlier and end a bit earlier. And that's okay! We begin shipping Mason bees in February through April. Until then, plan where you're going to create your bee oasis, so that after the New Year, you'll be ready to place a bee house and nesting materials before bees arrive. We recommend starting here: crownbees.com/pages/masonbees.

How soon, after the cocoons are put outside, will the mason bees hatch?

      Hi David,
In general, when the temps are about right and the bees' stored fats are low enough, these are the signals that tell the bee to emerge through their cocoons. We see temperatures messing things up at times. Warm, then really cold for a spell, then warm again, might have a bee not emerge. In May, if you wish, you can open cocoons up with a pair of scissors. UA-cam search "crown bees open cocoon" for a video on this.

What can I grow in my garden to attract leaf cutter bees? What kind of leaves do they like?

I'm in Houston, released my bees yesterday to prepared bee houses in shady spots, but don't see any activity in the reeds yet. How long should it take for them to set up housekeeping?

It can easily take a week or so.
