I never missed an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and season premieres and finales were always a big deal for my friend and me. On this, the night of the season 5 finale, I go over to my friend's house where we order some pizzas, watch the episode and discuss.
#2000s #2000snostalgia #buffythevampireslayer
This is a gold mine of nostalgia. I missed this episode because I was stuck in night-meeting hell, but caught it on VCR before anyone spoiled it.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is such a masterpiece I love that show with all of my heart.
Never watched Buffy, but chillin' with the boys around the TV with some pizza -- Ah damn, I do miss that. :D
This is insane. 😂 I remember watching this the exact same night, only I was 9 years old and it was my first time ever watching the show. I remember crying like...well, a child when she sacrificed herself. And I also had no idea it was being picked up for the next two seasons, but this video also confirms the fact that fans did know about the show being renewed, cause apparently this is still being debated on forums today. This was amazing to watch, thank you guys so much!
Same, almost
This is insane, you're out-OGing the OG YT Buffy reactors
Yeah very nice , reaction video prior to YT reactions.
Why does this video feel even older than the actual episode?!😭
Haha right? Could be an 80's video
The technology Nick has to film this is not the same as the one used in BtVS production.
I was only one when this aired and I just binged watched Buffy a couple months ago and loved it.
Ahhh, the good ole days when you had to eagerly wait week to week for one new episode of a show.
I didn’t see this but I do remember watching the series finale of ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ the night after this!
I wish I had filmed stuff back then. This was great to watch! Subscribed!
thanks
This is amazing! I'm 46, so I love seeing anything from the 90's. The fact that it's about one of my favorite shows of all time makes this video iconic!! I didn't watch Buffy back then, but I totally would have if I had friends like that to watch it with Love This!! Subbed.
Edit: The nostalgia factor is off the charts! 😁
oh man, knowing this was just two weeks until 9/11 is very surreal. thank you for uploading!! 7:07 "knowledge of the future destroys it" lol
The S5 finale was in May during sweeps. Months before 9/11 which happened in September.
@@got2bjoshdude is off by months
I was in Durango, Co visiting my cousin and watched the finale there. I cried. I freakin cried.
I can’t even imagine watching Buffy with Ads. Let alone so many
I was 10 years old when this was filmed! Also, I can’t believe I saw a Netflix ad at 8:42, I don’t remember seeing Netflix probably until around 07ish?
Netflix had been around as a mail order DVD rental business since 1997 so its possible.
This was back when it was still DVD disc rentals by mail, and even then that was brand new.
@@mistah_whiskahs I remember it being mail in but I guess I just thought it started closer to 2007ish, crazy to know it was around since 97!
something about this brings me such immense joy
This is incredible.
I love this vid with all my heart, this has taken me BACK 🫶🏼
Discovered your channel after someone on twitter brought up this video. Great trip of nostalgia and good foresight to have the presence of mind to record little things we would take as pop culture nostalgia later (food, posters, bands, recording internet and magazine reviews)
Blond dude is the cutest Buffy fan I’ve ever seen.
Reminds me of Seth Green in some way
Thanks!
Loved Buffy so much that my first son's name is Xander! 🤣
Glory would be a great name for a daughter. Or Drusilla.
I wasn't following the series at the time it was being aired. I thought that it was just another teenage vampire funny show, I was quite too young. Some years later I watched it on my own from the beginning. Then I realized the masterpiece it was. I can imagine how it was to follow it when being aired. That's a treasure you have got.
This dude was doing what UA-camrs are doing now in 2001
We had no idea youtube would be a thing. my filming structure would probably be totally different had i known what was coming.
2:05 actually ordering thru the phone lol I remember those days now it’s thru the app
Buffy still one of the best shows ever made.. i still have a huge crush on Alyson Hannigan.
Glad to hear the respect for Nerf Herder.. I always felt the 4 pillars of teen popalt from the mid 90s.. Smoking Popes Born to Quit, Nerf Herder, Weezer blue and Fountains of Wayne.
One of the greatest indeed. I still do a full rewatch every couple years.
I turned 4 just a day before this lol
The blonde Buffy fan was cute back then. I'm sure he's aged well today. I was a big fan of Buffy and Angel too.
Thanks! It’s me
Then season 6 happened and everything went bonkers. It was then how it is today, you either love season 6 or you hate it.
I loved it first time watching it when it first came out and i still love season 6.
I love S6 too. Once More.. and Tabula Rasa are 2 of my fav Buffy episodes ever.
I will always be on Team Cordy.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!!
How did you already know there was another season when season 5 aired? At the time we didn’t know
We did know that the show had been picked up by UPN for more seasons at the time, so we knew she couldn't be dead.
Because the bidding war with UPN was public knowledge. It was reported in the media, before the finale aired, that Buffy would be moving to UPN for season 6. The WB was so petty about the whole thing that they called it “The WB series finale” because that’s technically what it was: The WB series finale, not THE series finale. 😊 They also lost Roswell to UPN.
@@RogerMarket Oh God. This information is useful. I thought that the original plan was to end the series at season 5 and that's why she died. Then the resurrection was an improvisation to follow with a 6th season. Is this close to what happened?
Right?! I had no idea! I was devastated. Lol. I'm so glad I didn't know they were coming back. I probably wouldn't have cried.
Sometimes I question why I had such serious sideburns around this time. I guess it was just the thing, judging by these guys, and I was one of the only ones doing it in my small town 🤷♂️
SCREAM IF YOU WANNA GO FASTER ???
good ear! I didn't think anyone would pick that up
Epic.
Someone needs to post the link to this on all those Buffy reactions where some commenter says everyone thought the show was cancelled.
In Ireland, we were mostly unaware of the fact that the show would come back for two more seasons (we didn't have the WB or UPN), and I remember Sky TV advertising it as the "last ever episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer", so myself and other fans were quite moved by the whole finale... imagine our surprise, months later, when the ads promoting season 6 came out!
2:00 Is that a Glacier GBA from Japan? I didn’t get my GBA until the NA launch that summer.
Awesome. I wish I coulda hung out!! I was with a crap boyfriend in California instead..lol
キン肉マン @ 1:35 !!!
So during the finale time, was it known that the show was getting picked back up and moving to another channel? Because the promo clearly states it as a SERIES finale. Meaning the creators and actors and networks meant for this to be the end. But dude in the video says her death is ruined cus he knows she’s coming back next season. So was the show canceled at this point or not?
The switch from the WB to UPN was widely covered in the entertainment press, so it was pretty common knowledge that the show was coming back for at least two more seasons. The WB chose to hype the episode as "the wb SERIES FINALE" and at the end of the episode showed a little bumper paying tribute to the "final" episode (which you can see at the end of this clip ua-cam.com/video/zYwdVO9R-XA/v-deo.html ) It felt like a dick move to trick casual viewers into thinking the show had come to an end. Guess they were a little bitter about losing their flagship show to another network.
It was the last season on the WB channel, but me knew that UPN had picked up the show for the next season so we knew it was coming back.
