I heard Green Eyed Lady on a high-end stereo at a local store when it came out and you can guess my reaction. Around that time I went into a high end audio shop to check out the kind of gear I couldn't afford. For their own entertainment they sent Tongue in Cheek by Sugarloaf out through a pair of Klipschhorns and I was totally blown away by the sound, and the song. That group had real jazz chops, and their people knew how to use a studio to create an amazing clean sounding recording with great dynamics. Check out that song here on YT if you're not familiar.

Before today I knew, but at the time those songs were hits, I had no idea they were the same band. Most Boomers and older GenXers will remember that you really had to pay close attention to learn the names of these one-hit wonder bands. Don't Call Us, We'll Call You was my favorite song as a kid. I was also proud of myself for picking up on the Beatles reference. Yeah, I know it's stupidly obvious now, but I was only 9 when this song came out. I was surely vaguely aware of the Beatles at the very end of their existence, but my parents weren't rockers and I was only - what? 5? Maybe 6? - when their last album came out. My parents were OK with the Beatles but pretty ambivalent to most popular music. But it was the pop of the 70s. It was EVERYWHERE. I LOVED this song. I still do. What a great groove!

In the Chicago land area, we had two radio stations, WLS and WCFL, that were in heavy competition with each other..
One of the stations, WLS, if I remember correctly, had a contest where they would play a touch tone phone sound. And it was the cue to call the station, If you were the 15th caller, you would be the winner.
Listeners were calling the station when Don't call us, we'll call you was played.

Two great songs!! It wasn’t until I was in my mid 30’s that I realized that Sugarloaf recorded both of these very different sounding tracks.
Also If you ever put a record on the turntable and played it backwards to see if you could hear any secret recorded messages, then you will love this show.

I remember when "Don't Call Us..." came out. Very fun tune. I don't remember being aware that it was the same band as Green Eyed Lady. If I did know, that face didn't make an impression. But, I do remember Don't Call coming seemingly outta nowhere. Then, 'Whoever' was gone. Thx for covering a song that *every once in a while will pop into my head;* bounce around, and bug me for 2 or 3 wks, unresolved. This helps 'my state of mind' 😉
    Thx, Prof.

The late Wolfman Jack indeed said "From Stereo 92" in the song "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You". Sugarloaf made 2 appearances on NBC "The Midnight Special" in 1974 & 1975.

Sugarloaf's first album is very odd, though I really like it. It has instrumental tracks of songs that you'd think would have vocals. The musicianship is very impressive, especially for the time. Very progressive sounding band. I bought it mainly for the full album version of "Green-Eyed Lady." I actually forgot that Sugarloaf was responsible for "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You." Interesting story and interview. Great job, as always.

I love the story of both of these songs. About Don't Call Us, We'll Call You, that title was used as a Metallica radio special in 1997, with that song, as the obvious theme going into it and I believe, into the next segment from commercial breaks. This also connects to the Garage Inc album, where Metallica did Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd during the same special which ended up on the album and it all leads back to Sugarloaf.
