My favorite part of Old And In The Way was Rowen !! He’s only got 10 years on me but this makes me feel timeless absolutely wonderful to say the least !❤
Just wonderful, call him national treasure…. totally unique and still deeply rooted in musical traditions ….this man just is from toe to head about music…
I’m a Deadhead, so I’m familiar with Peter from his work with Jerry Garcia in their band Old & In the Way in 1973. And I just love him! He’s my guy (…after Jerry)
I had an old Yamaha signed by Bill Monroe and getting it signed is an indelible memory ; you see people using sharpies for that but not Monroe , for him it was a ball point pen and he etched it in !!! It was an hilarious thing to witness , all these people holding up their high end Martin guitars for his scratched in ball point signing !!! I love Peter Rowans singing to the nth degree!!!!
The Ruby Ridge character, whose name I won't even mention, was the ruination of his family. His own actions caused the event. His anti-government, white supremacist beliefs got his family shot. I can't believe Peter Rowan would sing a song portraying this man in a sympathetic light. I hope all of you folks of good will, including Grateful Dead fans, will see how wrong this is. I grew up in what was WA state's most conservative town, in the late 50s/early 60s. I met so many men who were eventually the ruination of their family. They came to our family home peddling hatred. Thank God my dad came to his senses and left their far-right movement.

When was this recorded?
Looks like November 2, 2014 according to info above.
Interesting - Peter’s first song tells us that Doc played electric guitar before he switched full-time to electric.
Yep he was in a rock n roll band in the fifties
