Fun seeking Americans abroad in 1919. What could possibly go wrong? 😂 Thanks for bringing these historic songs to life. Is this something of a rare song? I'd never heard it before. 🤔
Thank you, Thomas! I only learned about this song a couple weeks ago. I was reading Alec Wilder's American Popular Song, and he wrote such high praise for this song that I had to look it up! I think it is somewhat obscure, probably because it ceased to be topical when Prohibition ended, and then after the Cuban revolution, it didn't even make for good nostalgia. I hope everything is far enough in the past for us to enjoy it just as a historical treat!
Delightful -- thanks for the video! There's a cover of this song on one of my very favorite albums ever, There's A Small Hotel: Live At The Algonquin by marvelous cabaret singer Mary Cleere Haran. -- Steve
@@sheetmusiclady2924 I hope you like the album, which includes Mary Cleere Haran's singing and her patter in between songs. I'm fortunate to have seen her live at the Algonquin. Just seeing her there was wonderful.
Thanks! What a great performance and band! It's instructive to hear how Mary Cleere Haran handles some of the same songs--it helps me be more consciously aware of my own musical style choices!
@@sheetmusiclady2924 So glad you liked it. I love that album. It captures the essence of a cabaret singer. If you are in NY, I recommend taking in a cabaret performance at someplace like 54 Below. I really enjoy your song interpretations! (Maybe I'll see you on The Sheet Music Lady Tour one day.)
Love these Tin Pan Alley songs.
Thank you, and thanks for listening and commenting; I know it helps mu channel grow!
Always a delight to hear such a talented and beautiful lady recreate these great songs. You made my day. Thank you.
Thank you, Arnold! I am so glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks, Steve! I didn't know about that recording, but now I will have to listen! Wouldn't it be wonderful to perform at the Algonquin!
