I would change it all together and I'm not even an American. Not only is the range a problem, but choice of words and the order of them actually make the lyrics quite hard to remember. I recently watched a study on that on tv. So maybe, just pick a song that's more accessible?

Ohh this is hilarious today I literally in chorus sang this song....I'm am Alto but remembering my notes was hard....usually in general is.... Also it was a different version of the song not the lyrics just the way it was sung
Yep, our national anthem is a parody of an old drinking song.
Let's make it a new drinking song
Given our historical connection with drinking, that’s oddly appropriate:
- The Pilgrims landed in the future state of Massachusetts because they were running out of beer.
- Samuel Adams, a pub owner, and Paul Revere, a silversmith whose products likely included tankards, were instrumental in starting the Revolution.
- The patriots met in taverns to plan their strategy.
- The first domestic challenge to the new government was the Whisky Rebellion, a refusal to pay taxes on booze.
- The best way to transport grain was by turning it into whisky.
- The income tax (16th Amendment) had to be passed before Prohibition (18th) could be passed, since the Federal treasury had previously depended on alcohol taxes to run the government. And Prohibition had to be repealed (21st) before the country fell apart.
So yeah, a drinking song is SO appropriate as our national anthem.

As a Canadian who only knows the Star-Spangled Banner from hockey games, I've always thought it was weird that it's basically "everything go boom-boom except the flag", but now it makes some more sense. Also didn't know the French anthem was so violent, because je ne parle pas francais, but they've also had about a thousand more revolutions than the US has.

No, this is the United States we’re talking about. This needs to take at least 20 years with enough congressional hearings to give SNL material for multiple seasons. And by the end, we’ll get bored and keep the old song, because this is America

"America The Beautiful" has been proposed as an alternate anthem, since most people can sing it. (And Ray Charles recorded a classic version for The Ages.;)

The 1812 Overture could be our national anthem with the number of guns in this country.
And it glorifies the Russian defense against Napoleon (which makes its use of the tune of La Marseillaise historically inaccurate, since Napoleon banned that song), while Napoleon helped the young United States by keeping the British busy fighting a more serious threat.
