We aiming the afternoon 13:30 train (second train from Fort Williams). Was told I need to park at least 12:00. Right? Merci beaucoup from Montréal!!
I’m not sure of the timetable of the train but you can check that on west coast railways website. Best advice I can give is be there extra early to secure your spot at the viewpoint & be prepared for midges!. Also don’t bother with the viewpoint by the visitor centre, it’s too far away. One thing I would say is the afternoon train will sometimes run backwards, so to guarantee the train running forwards, go for the morning train. Thanks for the kind words & enjoy your trip!. My mother was born and raised in Glenfinnan, and i spent all my childhood summers there at myaunts house, my friend Alisdair and myself used to walk his dog along the railtrack and across the viaduct. Allowed then on a sunday as no trains ran on the sundays and his father was the station master. Their house was on the hill road that goes upto the station. Many many great days i spent at the station. Working albiet unpaid, keepingthe station clean and tidy for the tourists. One job i did not mind not being paid for. Got older i had a paid job at the National trust shop for the Prince charlie monument. I have lost count the amount of times i have climbed up the twisty staircase of the monument. Brilliant days. Really good video and eplained very well. Thanks for sharing, brought back many happy memories. Unfortunately no family left in Glenfinnan and this video has made me make up my mind that i will be visiting this year, thanks

@@ColinM_UA-cam it is a pity that you are not allowed on to the viaduct, the views are, well ti die for, different days when i was younger, not so many health and safety rules and lawsuits, lol. The train to Mallaig required the driver to pass a tablet/token to the station master and vice versa, my friend Aliadair was slightly older than me and he practised by riding a bike in place of the train, it became my job, sort of, it gave me a status (in my mins it did, many many tourists clammered to get the best stop to take pictures, of this handsone, young fearless boy doing a dangerous job, lol) that description is mine and mine and mine alone, thats the way i felt then anyway,as it could be be dangerous, ha ha, having to stand near the edge of the platform with the token in a leather pouch, the train driver with one too, for me to collect, a wikipedia page explains it better, it was used all over the world, i will post a link i just found explaining it better, practice died off years ago with technology advancing
Now there is a blast from the past, on that page is a picture of the tablet and token, tablet is from Glenfinnan station, oh the memories, thank you again for your video, my mum long passed away, she will be loving this story on my next visit to the cemetery
Hi Jim, I would say the walk would take between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how many stops you take. The first part is flat until the viaduct & then uneven gradient until you reach the boardwalk, then it’s relatively easy towards Glenfinnan station & the return route via the road. Enjoy your time there, but be prepared for midges (you usually encounter some). Colin
@@ColinM_UA-cam you are not a professional Colin, you are sharing your experiences, unless you are wanting to become one just do as you do, no pressure to retake and retake the shot just because it has small things dont make it ten our of ten, the scenery itself without commentary is stunning

Nice, but why cut the left mountains out of the front bit and maybe be more jolly with the voice over?
Sorry I missed it out from the video. I’m not the best at voice overs, it’s an area I need to improve on for sure.
