I like how it's all so down to earth and rational. Not one of those "you can do it, you're the best" style of vids. Helps you way more. Thank you, for everyone who doesn't leave their comments.

"The right answer is the answer you choose for it." Love it. I feel like people look at their lives this way sometimes, thinking there is a right and wrong path to choose. The more you chill out and go for what you want the less boring your choice will probably be anyway.

That first point is so true! I absolutely hated writing one particular chapter of my story due to writers block, but my brother (and editor) shocked me when he said it wound up being his favorite chapter.

I saved this a while ago after stumbling upon it, knowing that some rainy day I'd need it. Today was that rainy day, and this didn't disappoint. Thanks for being someone who understands the process and who is willing to share their own struggles. You made someone lost in the loneliness of writing feel a lot less alone today. Thank you. Thank you.

Great pep talks, Shaelin. Quick tip for number nine - do something that brings you joy every day, for no other reason than you enjoy it. It helps bring that positivity forward when you need it with less effort, don't ask me how but it does :)

Thanks for this! It's easy to forget these things when you're in the process of writing and insecurity creeps up on you.
Next time it does I will rewatch this and kick those thoughts to the curb 😊

Awesome video. I feel motivated :)
And when we're talking about drafting Dan Harmon compared it to making a vase out of clay. Some think that this lump you start with is your ideas and an outline. He thinks that this lump is your first draft and only when you start the second draft you start forming a vase. It really helped me deal with my first drafts feeling weak.

I had a moment yesterday where I felt overwhelmed with "being a great writer" and all of my publishing insecurities just swarmed my brain. I had to step away and remember WHY i like writing, what I LOVE about writing and creating to get back to the sustainable feeling that what I'm doing goes beyond "book sales." Listening to your video has solidified that feel-good, i-love-to-write-because-writing-is-awesome feeling by 300%. Thank you for this video. I hope you know that your pep talk is and will be incredibly helpful for writers now and those to come.

I also agree that self-confidence issues (especially for writers) are a huge problem but can be overcome. The important thing to keep in mind is that, as you said, it's not gonna happen immediately and it will take a long time.

Thank you, great speech. You make a great point about one person's creativity is never going to be the same as another's, but can be just as good. I want to share with you a video Stephen King made recently that mimicked a bit, your video last year on whether or not to pre-plan your plot and outline it or not. I thought of you and thought you might like to see it. He discusses it somewhere in the middle. Its a question and answer session at a university, Maine or Massachusetts. Its called, on youtube, 'Stephen King on Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, and Lovecraft and More...'
