He must have been a really bad gambler who played very suboptimally. Like if you played $1 million a day and win you keep it lose you get 15% back you absolutely have odds on your favor considering the small house edge especially with the rules he would get 3-2, double after split 2 decks etc with that spend. Short of total dumb things like hitting on 18 or standing on 8 or splitting 10s against a 10 showing I reallly dont get how he could lose long term
