You can invade like 8 different planes of existence... You don't need too to win the game and you will almost certainly waste more resources doing so than you will ever gain. Let's invade hell and kill Satan, then let's invade hades and kill death!

Your comment is rather misleading. Only few faction can access individuals plane with certainty, even with mods no faction can ever gain access to more than 3 plane each game. Mostly player will be able to gain access to one. Since only certain faction can gain certain benefits and the enemy in those plane can make easy work of a late game army of any faction. It’s a rather badly designed feature honestly. I played all the faction to a completion and I have yet to get the chance to explore most of the plane.
@@garyli4909 scrolls to travel is pretty available. There are also holes, shovel to get down. And once youre down u can use the portal to go even further
And the worst plane to get to is the void.

@gary li reeeeally old reply, but the high cultists, necromancer, and warlock can reliably (at least 80% of the time) get to EVERY plane of existence. The high cultists, using star child's or elder starspawns as the commanders, can even invade the void.
Illwinter games deserve far more attention.
The only games i know wich have realistic undead factions. Actually raising the dead and not just buying skeletons and zombies with money.
Why aren´t more people playing this game? Where you can summon cthulhu and let him fight satan.

I played my fair share of dominion 4 and 5 but all i saw was: Limits, lack of control, Gaints curbstombing everyone.
I like the idea but once you understand it.
It just a poorly designed game who uses the classic: claiming to be complex by hiding behind a bad interface.

Age of wonders serries is way better.
Large selection of troops, able to build multi racial armies.
Spells that are good.
All dominions offer and more with better grathic's, limited diplomacy, and way better troops.
@@malaficus Dominions is a multiplayer game, the singleplayer experience is very stunted as you say but its multiplayer is way deeper than any other strategy game out there. Age of wonders multiplayer doesn't hold a candle to it.

Dominions has more units everyone can summon than age of wonders have units in total, so dominions has way more multi racial armies. Age of wonders limits what units you summon based on some very limited starting picks, dominions lets you summon basically everything every game as long as you research it. So I'd say that dominions gives you way more options on what to do than age of wonders.

Dominions magic is way way way way more powerful than age of wonders magic. It is just harder to use. Magic is what wins multiplayer games and mage availability is one of the main differences between the nations you can pick. For example, you can mind control the entire enemy army, now it is your army! The spells are extremely strong and you win fights with basically no losses if you use them correctly, but all spells has counters so the game is mostly about trying to counter the enemy winning spells while having your own trump cards against them.
Why more people dont play the game? Well, the first reply shows a clear example: people dont really understand the game. The dude thinks AoW has more troops tha Dominions and that you cant create multiracial armies.
Conquest of Elysium has that quirky identity where it's actually an absolutely bonkers roguelike disguised as a strategy game, where randomization can make it feel too chaotic for some, and due to the same randomization it isn't really viable as a competitive multiplayer game. A peculiar niche, but boy I'm happy a game filling it exits, one of my favorite indie series.

I really didn't like the sound of this game until I saw the battles were actually done in "real" time with a visualized auto-battling, and then with how crazy different the factions are... instant wish-list
I love the faction that's all about celestial creatures and breaking the seals that trigger the apocalypse.
I rushed that just because I wanted to see what happens and saw the world slowly unraveling while angels (the biblical wheel-of-eyes type) where appearing randomly and attacking everyone.
Eventually the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse showed up with their armies and I missed my troops killing Death because I was too busy watching War wrecking a rival of mine.
I didn't won that game so much as I was the only one left alive after every other faction had their cities ripped from reality.
It's also funny that the NPC factions are just as capable as players. My brother thought it would be pretty cool to start the game by opening a game to Hell and invade them there. What happened afterwards was that Hell used that same gate to invade the Overworld instead and wreck everything around it.

Love the Conquest of Elysium series, this one looks like the best yet.
Found out about this game a few months ago. it is dumb, I love the high cultists and the mole men. The mole men can burrow in places making it so they can easily access lower planes with mines and go to hell.
If you want to see dumb, watch the Mole Men movie!

Arch you might want to take a look at the workshop for this, there's an excellent total overhaul by one Commisar Jon Fuklaw that expands on each of the base factions while keeping them on a somewhat equal footing. I found this game after seeing your video on Dominions 5 and I thank you for introducing me to Illwinter's delightfully insanely complicated games and hope to see some series of CoE5 from you one day.

Doesn't bring a neigh-endless horde of animals that have been summoned.
Yeah, I can tell you're not experienced with this game, no offense.
Literally wake in the night screaming about the high end beasts stomping behind armies of Rats and Bunnies commanded by Druids.
They are furiously annoying in that capacity xD.

The best thing about this game is the description of various units. That thing is hilarious.
Always fun when the War between Heaven and Hell starts. And then there are the Deer. Proceeds to thousand yard stare in horrible deer based massacres.

Ever so often, a few times each century, the annoying menace that is the Scourge Lord plagues the realms. Hidden behind spiky armor and a golden mask, he seeks out other disruptive elements across the realm and begins a reign of destruction, disruption and decay.
Where the Scourge Lord gets his devastating powers is still unknown and the source of much speculation. The lack of proper communication beyond the scornful quips and twisted facts makes it difficult to learn anything about them.
It has been suggested that the power lies within the mask and the armor, and that the Scourge Lord arises whenever a simple adventurer or farmer of very low nature unearths the golden mask and the accompanying spiked shoulder pad. It is easy to imagine how the vile Scourge-Lord-to-be dons the mask, disregarding any pieces of crumbling flesh still clinging to the golden mask.
Within the mask, and now the Scourge Lord, lies the power to drain the lands and also the minds of people, leaving them both as desolate, ashen places.
The Scourge Lord's warriors are just another bunch of disruptive miscreants ready to follow anyone who feeds their false beliefs in saurid emperors or hidden covens of wizards that they blame for any mishaps in their own lives. Though individually craven they are utterly terrified of their peers and leaders, and would storm any fortress on their master's command.
Though they do seem human by appearance and lineage, it has been speculated that many of the henchmen of the Scourge Lord are in fact descended from the lower kinds of trolls, as an unnaturally large number of them appear to have been living in basements and outhouses prior to joining the ranks of the Scourge Lord.
Though the Scourge Lord is fickle and paranoid, he will often surround himself with sycophantic assistants who will lead his troops and help spread the influence of the Scourge Lord.
These assistants are the Scourge Heralds. Not only do they engage in the crimes of more common villains, e.g. rob merchants, take over villages and mines, harass the population and kill the innocent, they are also the main instrument by which the Scourge Lord depletes the landscape of Elysium.
The Heralds will erect pillars and steles whose surfaces are inscribed with destructive jokes, offensive rants and counterfactual news. Through these brainworms the Scourge Lord drains the surrounding lands of all their lifeforce, leaving a withered desert behind them.

Picked this up after watching your video and put a good couple hours into it today
I appreciate how straightforward learning the basic controls are despite the obviously very deep underlying mechanics, usually having to put a bunch of hours in to even know what i'm looking at makes me drop strategy games
Both Dominions and Conquest of Elysium are great gems from Illwinter. Supposedly they are working on a sci-fi version of CoE and have a potential roguelike in the works, too. I look forward to every title they have to offer, really. Great devs.

I found this to be harder and longer and more insane than Dominions 5. Seriously, fighting into other planes- or even getting to their portals- can be a nightmare. And even trying to do anything in the void without having a few specific generals is basically impossible after a few turns.
I have played older game (probably conquest of elysium 3) on my mobile device. Was perfect for it. And was a nice introduction to dominions. I still prefer full 2d visuals of Elysium.
My favourite factions were:
Necromancers
Trolls
Pale Ones
Demonologists
Fantastic game. Would love to see a livestream of it.

Dominions 5 rules, but it's so dense that I'm basically lost while playing it. CoE5 is _way_ more my speed and is so awesome and unique that I'm really taken by it.
Never forget my first playthrough as Voice of El when I realized I could just _pay money_ to have both Crusades _and_ Monty Python's Inquisition roaming the map conquering my enemies for me while I focused on other objectives - like opening all of the Seals and damning the world to the Apocalypse. (Did you know that the Seals can open _by themselves?_ Yeah. That was an "oh shit" moment.)
Eventually my map of Elysium became desertified and only myself and one other AI (out of 8) were alive. By that point it had gone on so long that I resigned. I just couldn't find that last bastion of enemies. I learned in the post-game that not only had I been faring _much_ better than literally everyone else, but the _entire map_ was covered in Demons (literally every square had demons on it other than the ones my noble Templars were roving around on.) That last AI had been stuck inside his lowly Citadel the entire time surrounded by his troops and only his ship-borne soldiers were the ones left alive.
If we had just cut a swathe through the Demonic horde and sieged his last stronghold, we would've had the game. I'm not very good at Strategy games, but the sheer differences in gameplay between each Hero/Faction totally sold me. One of my best purchases this year, for sure. I just wish Dominions "clicked" for me as well as CoE does.
Which would you reccommend elysium or dominion?

@@didgeree469 I went searching for it so I csn post the link to his narrative campaign of Dominions 5. But I cant seem to find it either. It was really fleshed out with Arch narrating the history and battles of the campaign between himself and several other playets. He also had art made for the big battles and characters.

Colour me intrigued. As I've matured, graphical fidelity has become considerably less important to me. I've garnered a far greater level of enjoyment from Caves Of Qud or Battle Brothers than I would've from any "AAA" offering.

Honestly. Don’t like how combat looks in this one. I always wished Dominions had more politics to it instead of just outright combat and ground taking. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think many would want to deal with the undead, but I still think it would be interesting
You get a lot more of that in multiplayer.
I personally think that diplomacy would be a bit silly in context of Dominions - hard to see why any Pretender God would want to co-operate with each other since there can be only one Pantokrator to triumph.

All I have is 3 and 2. There is a marked difference between them. 5 looks similar to 3 (campaign map)

I don't think this is more complicated then Dominions, and for sure not 70 times. I will now get this game and form (more) informed opinion. In short: YOU DID THIS TO ME.

Okay, but how's the AI? Does it actually feels like playing against some semi competent enemy, or is it just a fodder that needs arbitrary bonuses over the human player to pose any challenge?
Ish, it's best to play the game like a PvE, not PvNPC.
The AI generally does a decent job building itself up but only a mediocre job of attacking and taking targets. Also it does somewhat rely on bonuses(set by you) to make it a bit more challenging.

About time this game got some love. I personally compare it to warlords, the old dos games more.
Edit note: also checkout some of the unit descriptions, deer in particular have a wonderful blurb describing their less than wholesome nature.
So, it's a game that you need only 30-40 hours to get into, gotcha. Right to the "for when i lose my job" pile it goes.

Dearest Overlord, I have bough the game, as I am a good peasant. However, there is no tutorial and I have no a single fucking clue as to what I am doing,
The trick is to capture holdings, and raise more troops at the capital, that you can do every turn. You can cycle from commander units including your king by right clicking them, and you then merge troops or delegate command to other officers by moving them to the same square and select transfer units and then left clicking what units you want to join the commander. At the start it pays to have all your troops moving around in one army, but later on you will have the resources to raise multiple armies. With broad range of units.
