Can we agree that the Detective is a twist villain done right? Throughout the film, we see how much of an arrogant prick he was who takes his frustrations out on Soldier but he still remains loyal to Jules Archibald, even if he's just as much of a dirtbag as him. He went through hell in the Conagher Slaughterhouse, having his car blown up, getting shot in the leg and eventually getting his flesh burnt up. And it was all for nothing, as Archie faked his kidnapping the whole time, so the Detective shot him. Also, a neat detail during the Russian Roulette scene. He pulls the trigger without hesitation, showing that he has nothing left to lose after killing Archie and would take the chance to end his own life.
@@thekeybladeninjaturtle7380 I agree! We actually watch this man lose everything, the last thing being his loyalty. His actions in the final act aren’t thrown in there for shock value, they have a purpose to be there because we see them unfold. Also, that last detail. I never thought about it that way until now and it’s incredibly fascinating! Thanks for pointing that out!
@@thelovelyloxo1701 Any time. Another neat detail is that the three things Archie rewards the Detective get taken away from him. New Car? Blown up no thanks to his own recklessness Personal Assistant? Ran away and left him to be kidnapped by the Butcher Vacation? Gets killed by Medic before he can live it.
@Kumo5980 Definitely. The Detective sees himself as someone who can do no wrong, while everyone else screws up around him. But every bad thing that's happened to him was a consequence of his own actions. Dead Witness? Rashly handled the situation. "Useless" assistant had to bail him out, which he doesn't thank him for. Destroyed car? Swatted the Rocket Launcher out of Soldier's hands, causing it to go off. Kidnapped by Pyro? Didn't shoot him when he had the chance. Severely charred body? Foolishly discarded a cigarette in a room full of gas. Murdered by Revived Medic? Forced him to khs, then tried to frame him for the murder of Archibald, which he was responsible for.
He made it out and became Chairman of the Board...
_...for all of 6 seconds._
Fun fact: The Detective's name is Jacques Murnau. It's confirmed in the newspaper article about the funeral shooting

4:25 The shortest and one of more funnier clips here. The cut in solider words is *GOLD*
its all detective's fault );
Hey man, he was just doing his part but he ended up getting shot anyways so
ITS THE SPY YOU FOOL, THE SPY!
Not in this film he's not.
@mathwgod60 true but most people prefer “spy” since the detective still acts like spy
I love this show and the spy makes a great detective what do you guys think ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe spy in the canon, just not this spy
