Factory X Eliminations Round 1 US Nationals

- This is the first round of eliminations for the new Factory X class inaugural event at the US Nationals in Indy. With only four cars entered, the second round will also be the finals.
Years ago I wrote the NHRA an email, proposing a class much like this. It only took them 10 or 15 years to figure it out. I'm hopeful this class will take off.
This needs to be on TV right behind top fuel! Better than Pro Stock imo😉. Holbrook to the front👍
The COPO Camaros will race with a 630-hp Magnuson 2.65-L supercharger, and the DragPak Challengers will utilize a 630-hp, 3.0-L Whipple. The Cobra Jet 327 Mustang’s engine combination will be a 610-hp, 3.0-L Whipple only information I can drum up

Pro stock isn't going anywhere. If anything F/X will end up in comp or super stock like all of the other great ideas nhra had

Wonder if NHRA has a built in advantage for GM. 🤔 Ford already has the smallest CID.
Coyote should have the advantage with 4 valves per cylinder, and dual overhead cams.
All sanctioning bodies of all motor sports where GM competes are for GM to win. There are too many examples for it not to be true. Follow the money

Not a good look with just 4 cars at one of the biggest events of the year. NHRA is behind in progress lost in the past

Nice class but I like Prostock much better…..I love the sleek aerodynamic bodies of Prostock & the big tires under the rear & the speeds in NHRA Prostock.
No offense intended but the "sleek, aerodynamic" bodies are exactly the problem, and the very reason NHRA is trying Factory X. The hardcore Pro Stock fans remember when the cars actually looked like something you could buy from a dealer, except they revved to the moon and had manual transmissions. They would leave wheels up and it was awesome.
@@mchristr yeah I’m 50 years old myself & remember watching the Monzas, Pintos, Vegas, then later the Oldsmobile cutlass, Ford Probe, Chevy IROC camaro etc etc…but Dragracing changed with the increased horsepower, I think the Chevy beretta may have been the first one altered in wheelbase & rear tubs ….It just became the new & better look in my opinion….I find Promodified to be altered too much for my personal preference BUT Prostock in my opinion is altered just perfect with the sleek aerodynamic bodies….I prefer the mustangs in Prostock trim over these Big shoebox style factory bodies in Factory X class…plus I would hate to see current Prostock get replaced by a much slower class, smaller rear tire & not as close of racing than Prostock….Only thing I wanna see happen in Prostock is to eliminate that rpm limit ,bring hoodscoops back by bringing air in from the top & have more body styles in the class.
These cars don’t have the big tires in the rear like the pro stockers do. Factory X cars are using 10.5” bicycle tire in the rear while pro stock has a 17” wide tire. If they would allow the same size tire as pro stock they could run sub 1 second 60’ times and would quickly become quicker and faster than the current P/S class while STILL looking like the cars at the dealerships unlike those ugly deformed jellybeans that the pro stock cars were allowed to become. They’re so far from STOCK BODIES that I doubt a single exterior body part would fit on a factory stock shaped car that they are supposed to be representing. The Allen Johnson car has already gone 202mph multiple times at the last race so if they had some real rubber out back they will be able to bury the current pro stock class that no longer has any interest.

The NHRA is dying. They have always favored. certain teams and brands. Factory x is supposed to save them? They already have slanted things. Chevy uses one kind of blower, Ford and MOPAR another. Ford runs the smallest engine, and it is by a lot of cu in. They made Ford go from turbos to s/c. The NHRA has long factored Ford and MOPAR. Not my words but racers words. They made Glidden carry more weight, Sox and Martin and others the same. Larry Morgan said of his pro stock Ford, it was a great engine and was very competitive, he qualified for almost every show. And he, LM said it to the wrong people. Certain teams and brands get special favors at the track all the time. I quit going over 20 years ago. Empty seats everywhere, the sponsors will be next to leave.

I mean, it's NHRA professional drag racing, of course it's expensive. Just like NASCAR Xfinity series, it's professional level stock car racing, of course it's expensive.
