  • Should I Apply Lawn Fertilizer In The Summer?
    If your lawn is under drought stress or heat stress please DO NOT fertilize it...spend that time and money in water. If your lawn is fine and you have not fed it lately then this is a great low nitrogen option for the summer.

      Pete is indeed the man. Could it be because the department of homeland security has invaded the cities of this nation in full camo and guns creating problems at the hand of Trump? That might be it. As Pete said the police are supposed to take care of domestic issues and Homeland defends against outside threats.

    Man, that looks like a great spoon feed option mid summer on irrigated yards. Move round 3 to earlier May app of pasture fert, then End of July soil alive to green things up until overseed. I am consistently impressed with Hyr-Brix in the yard and garden. Best fertilizer I have ever used.

    Pete...just wanna wish u a Happy 4th of July! I enjoy your videos...u take the time to EXPLAIN why certain products work best, when, where, and how they work. This video nails summer stress...changes needing to water...mowing...fertilizer...and insecticide. Early to mid Summer..is the most challenging time to keep lawns healthy, let alone green. Most people give up, let the lawn burn, since most of us cannot afford irrigation, or our wells cannot keep up . If u have not done a video on alternatives to watering a lawn: cost effective DIY irrigation, what our alternatives we have w wells, best sprinklers, hoses, etc...
    I have a well....i get 1-3hrs of watering before i get to running the well dry in summer. So i give 1-2 hr well recovery time on watering lawn and gardens. Two reels of 200ft of hose...i use PLASTIC impulse sprinklers vs brass....less restrictive w lower water pressure and can cover more area. I occassionally use the Miracle Gro inline plastic bottle to spread Miracle Gro...is there ANOTHER better, or bigger inline hose fertilizer container or solution u recommend. I am on 2 acre property, typically use 30-35,000 cu ft coverage of fertilizer, Milorgonite, lime, etc....Soil Alive is a great summer mix Pete, nice job!

    Watch out Pete, I'm going to start making some blinding stripes on a whole new level!
    How about this now, all the web sites say to water before 10:00 am. I even have solar panels. Without regard to the cost of water or electricity, when and how much should I water? It's going to be above 90 all next week!
    By the way, my well is only 30 feet deep. It has 10.5 feet of water (the water is only at 19.5 feet deep). I could not get the water to come down any at all (in the hole) for running the pump for an hour!

    It's tough without an irrigation system, sprinklers just don't do it.. but they help, some.
    I took your advice and began applying preventative fungicide treatments every 28 days. So I water at night sometimes so it's not evaporating as much

    • @randyman8984
      @randyman8984 5 років тому

      Yeah I hear its not good to water at night but it rains all the time at night? Thats why having a warm season grass has it advantages over a cool season. You really need an irrigation system from may - aug for cool season turf. A garden hose and a sprinkler works just fine for warm season grass.

    @ Pete-106° in Phoenix Az tomorrow...you will love the Bermuda once it's in your place of business. Tiff will be a lot of work but, will give that diamond field look. If you want something that can be cut a little taller I would recommend princess 77 it is the most closely related to tiff from my understanding. I may be wrong

    • @Super1nobody
      @Super1nobody 5 років тому

      princess 77 is a very thick growing bermuda and likes to be cut tight. You shouldn't let it grow more than 1 inch tall, and that's more than I would let it grow. Think of it as carpet. If you let it get tall, you'll have a dump truck load of thatch to get rid of in the spring. Remember, all that stuff that turns brown in the winter will not come back. It's waste. The new growth comes from underneath.

    I have been enjoying and learning a ton from your videos. I wanted to know your opinion on spraying liquid fertilizer vs granular fertilizer.
    Given that they both have their place. But on a limited budget would you recommend buying a good backpack sprayer or a good broadcast spreader?
    Thank you for great videos!

    Would you recommend organic fertilizer in summer?

      I'm doing the same, organic for the rest of the year. It's a 10-3-3 of which 95% of the N is from organic sources. Let's see how it goes. Definitely don't use synthetic and then not water the lawn. Just not sure yet about the amount, full app, half app..

      I've been using an 8-3-5 organic fertilizer, OMRI listed, for more than 20 years with excellent results.

    Pete, can you recommend an economical fungicide for a tall fescue lawn that has some brown patch. I’m treating 1.3 acres so that’s the need for economical!

      I realize the upfront cost is much but your cost per acre is very good with this....gciturfacademy.com/product/strobe-2l-liquid-fungicide-heritage/

      @@GCITurf Hey Pete buddy I thought you used to recommend Propiconazole for brown patch prevention. Is Heritage more for control instead or is Heritage just cheaper?

      Mitch azoxystrobin is better all around fungicide and lasts longer I feel. Propi works as well

      @@GCITurf Thank you sir! Bayer has a Propi granule that's not that concentrated so it appears the granule version is good for prevention as I'm doing more versus control.

      GCI Turf Services One Of those cargo trailers for an aerator to haul. I saw you had one on the back of your pickup. They are hard to find a heavy duty one. Trugreen has them to carry aerators around. Any help would be great. Where two legs drop down to take off.

      Trey Matlock depends on how much of each nutrient you are wanting to apply. I just put it out on the neighbors yard at 1 bag per 5000 squ ft
