With abyss there are a few other amps up there with wa33. Trafomatic primavera , viva egoista 845, riveria aic-10. The xi audio stack with powrman and luxman p750u mk2 are great solid state options.

I think this might be an interesting series. As someone who was forced toward using IEMs (although for a different reason) I always wondered what is the perspective of someone who is well versed in both hi-end headphones and IEMs, since people are usually biased towards one or the other. So even though i am definitely not shopping in kilobuck+ category, I am still interested in your opinions.

Hey man, 2 years ago I bought the TC after watching your comparisons. Running it with May Bliss and HA300MK2 and it's still spectacular. I had Susvara and many other good headphones and TC is one of the best (alongside Utopia) and very unique.
It's for people who love detail, space, bass, clarity and a bit colder and drier presentation. Hope no one bus these expecting lushness 😅

My feeling is - if an expensive TOTL headphone *REQUIRES* some special, magical, hard to find, ultra expensive amp/DAC/amp+DAC combo just to sound good/NON-PROBLEMATIC, then that headphone has a big problem, and I'm not gonna touch it or recommend it. The RAAL CA-1a, however, I know sounds AMAZING on the RAAL VM-1a amp(and whatever DAC), which is an expensive combo... but I believe it's the only high-end RAAL amp currently, so it's an easy solution to find what the best amp is for RAAL phones.

lol I love this video, especially the bit about EQ, but complete agreement that sources do matter and folks do have great options to deal with/avoid that situation. For example Meze stuff will pretty much sound great on any source you use. I haven't heard the Caldera but all the ZMF stuff I have heard sounds great from source to source as well. Love the channel and the perspectives ✌️

I like this video style. Reflection is important and it also gives us insight into how certain products can stand the test of time like the HD 800. That thing is still talked about! Rightly so though.

I am convinced that a chain for headphones must be at least as expensive as the headphones.

Why bother making a rule-of-thumb at all? There is no reason to make a rule. You're wasting brain space. Concentrate on goals & the straightest path to get there.

That’s a terrible heuristic lol. If how a company decides to price their products affects how much you enjoy listening to them, that’s placebo, not a genuine difference.

Have you heard the Diana TC yet? I’ve been curious about it, but there’s no dealers near me to try out their headphones and they get such mixed reviews online.

Do you mean how they were criticized for their repair policy and how they now offer a 10 year warranty?
As someone who has had his own abyss headphones that he bought secondhand repaired by abyss themselves at times free of charge, I find this comment hilarious.
Stick to the manufacturers who offer a 90 day warranty instead of complaining about company that charges top dollar for their products while offering the service to back it. And why don’t you actually try the headphones before hopping on the criticism because they’re too expensive for you?
      Cheers.

I’ve had and tried nearly all totls including sus. 1266 kills absolutely everything for me, now I have utopia 2022 too and it’s a big step down. They sound aggressive and unnatural out of random stuff. I listen to mostly vocals with instruments and made them sound very full and organic. Chain choice is critical

NTY on the 1266 TC. While I do believe in the benefits of system matching, I think that it’s insane when you have to throw multiples more of a product’s cost at said product in order to get it to sound good.
Truth be told, I’m not a big Abyss fan. They’re just not my cup of tea sonically. They’re not worth the asking.
