Started low sec mining yesterday. It was fun having to actually pay attention.
Great advice! One thing that makes lowsec mining even better right now is they finally fixed a big with the NPC miners that was causing a plague of empty belts in lowsec. It was often hard to find belts, but now they should be plentiful! So if you ever heard something bad about that, now’s the time to try it!
All I would say is that low sec belt mining is not great isk for how exposed you are. They are a great place to learn how to mine and not die though :) o7
@@daddex9222 I guess it depends, as a 3 week old char, I found a crockite anomalie in lowsec, made a small fortune, well at least for me it was. it helped that a local station had compression.
Great vid. I really like watching your videos and just your general, relaxed delivery. One thing I'd mention for low and null sec is to bookmark a couple of safe spots you can retreat to. Sometimes, gangs will try to flush you towards a gate to snare you. If in doubt, a safe spot while cloaked, or for changing fit is a great thing to have. I'm a bit persnickety, and I have safe spots in all the systems I frequent, regardless of their security. You never know when some ganker will get a wild hair and just attack you for no reason while your head is down over a probe scan or some other reason your attention might lapse. It's good practice for Alphas too, as my mentor taught me. I've only been caught once at a safespot, and that was after an hour of being chased in a wormhole, when I should have just cloaked and logged instead of trying to get cute. As is often the case, when painful things happen to me, usually I am at least partially to blame.

One thought I would like to add.... Sometimes, having a larger ore hold, though it makes the discovery more worth the time (especially in a WH), it makes one stay longer than one should. Because one is not always wanting to leave until the hold is full. Sometimes a smaller hold makes one leave sooner. Leaving WH with something is better than staying too long and getting caught (even by Sleepers), or the chance of the WH collapsing while one's mining.

excellent stuff (as usual I might add) interested to hear about the WH stuff, as I don't normally venture (pun not intended) that far, just learning to get into LS mining after being in the game for about 2.5 yrs so really timely for me.

This reminds me, the Ice harvesting version (Endurance) was very popular and very efficient during the Winter Nexus event. Last year I was using a Procurer and a Skiff, for their tank, and there was those guys in the Endurance, munching ice and moving around very fast. I might as well buy one or two now, before the event start and spark a rush. And I have some training to do...

Ok, I know Dad Dex is probably experienced in this system and knows some people there as he mentioned once, but his limited explanation of of keeping yourself alive from other players was that... limited. Those 2 half hearted steps of checking a character's security status and their corporation are only the beginning. I was sitting there in anxiety waiting for that Vexor to pop him, and then even more when the 3 pacifiers (appeared to be a multi boxer) were within 5 AU and one of them DISAPPEARED off dscan. In fact it was so blatantly nonchalant that I thought he was purposely going to get himself killed for content reasons. After checking corp, alliance and security status, I'm immediately on zkillboard to check to see what pvp targets those players go for (like ventures), how dangerous they are (zkillboard has a character danger rating), and in which systems they kill in. And when that Pacifier disappeared off dscan, I would have been OUTEY right there! So just giving the audience a heads up, that is not how relaxed you can treat being in low sec. Like I said, Dex is probably very familiar about the normal players in that system, but he was not explaining that to his audience as new players kept popping in and out.

The small ore anomaly site in a 0.1 is easily worth 2-5 b took me 2 days on and off with 2 covetors and a porpoise . rats i was getting was 3 battle cruisers and a battleship, sometimes clone transporters or Mordu's Legion ships (rare)
Very exciting to see Low Sec being more valuable then Null for mining. Looking forward to more changes in the established markets and your view is definitely beyond my typical playing field :)

press 'L' which should open the bookmarks window. There is an icon on that to open local locations in their own window it is very handy :)

You cloak as long as your not pointed by rats, I suggest the endurance it can cloak, but not warp cloak and you can bite back at rats
These wormhole sites where four have to be completed at the same time ... Love to hear more about that!

I saw someone link a Small Higgs Anchor I in rookie chat the other day. I guess the idea is to mine aligned, and the anchor slows you down so you don't move out of range of the lasers. Have you had experience with that?
That is interesting. I have used them to collaspe wormholes we didnt want there when we lived in one. You can get your speed to any level you want just by clicking on the UI so I am not sure they are really required here? I have used the technique of moving slowly towards the warp in point when I go to 'yellow alert' a lot.
If I mine in a venture and kill the rats i shoot the wrecks also. If someone is hunting they cant see someone was there recently
That does cover your tracks. Check them for loot first though even those puny low sec rats could drop 3mil modules :)
Hey, I am relatively new to Eve, so I gotta ask what kind of cloaking device is best to use? Also, if I wanted to try this in a retriever, can you recommend a good fit?
The main difference in cloaking devices is that T1's devices can't warp while cloaked, while T2 (covert ops) cloaks can. Different variants of the T1 cloaks will have different speed penalties and fitting requirements
Can't say I recommend low sec mining in a barge though, especially not if you're a new player. It's got such a big target stuck to it, players will want to hunt you, especially on a new character :)

Thanks mark great vid , I like to huff gas in my venture as an alpha the isk is much better I once found a site in high sec with loads of Amber cyreconin (I think it was called) which was worth a fortune and I virtually had the whole lot to myself over a long period but otherwise I look in wormholes for it, you are right the venture is a great little ship, my favourite in eve 👍 ign:BARRY monk
I mine low sec sometimes and have an alt to waste the rats that always show up. Sometimes get a Clone Soldier or two.

Greenhorn question if i may, i heard you mention that in that system they dont need to probe scan you for location and that they can see your signature somehow...pls expand
It is because the Ore sites show on the scanning window like Refuges etc, they don't need to be scanned down and anyone can warp right too them. You will appear on their d scan (unless cloaked) so it may not be hard to guess where the mining ship is... and go look. Hope that helps o7

Ventures have innate +2 stability
you are getting totally ripped off at 8M for an ore hold. you should look for someone actually needing minerals who'll easily buy that ore for 8k each (12.5M per hold)
That is just the local market price. I can get more for Ore and Gas shipping it to Dodixie. There are always options worth thinking about for sure :) o7
