I just had the same issue, went from vortec 5.0 to gen1 350, used the vortec water pump, but didn't even think about that extra hole, the vortec 3rd hole does not go all the way into cooling system, the gen1 does, out leaks the coolant .. thanks for the video, I'll tap and cap mine also.

I have an 880 Vortec long block i built for a CJ-7. Have a Vortec RPM intake and electric water pump. Block has 3rd bypass hole. How would I plumb this and use the Jeep heater core/hoses? Plug 3rd hole in the block and use the intake's 2 plugged coolant ports to connect the heater core? It's an electric water pump as in this video. The most common answer when searched, seems to be, plug the bypass hole in the block and then drill small holes in the thermostat. But I can't find an article that addresses all issues together at the same time. Connecting a heater core, plugging the block's bypass hole, and drilling the thermostat holes.
Just looking for ideas and opinions.
1st obvious answer is the 3rd hole has to be plugged regardless of whatever I do if I want to use an electric water pump on a Vortec long block. But routing the heater core has me flustered to be 100% honest. I tend to overcomplicate things but I just don't want to screw this up by doing something stupid by overlooking an easy solution. Living in the mid-Atlantic I wanna have heat this winter but not make the cracking issue worse for these heads. Thanks for the video and sorry for being long-winded.

No problem, thanks for the question! Yeah plug the hole, It's probably too small to use it for anything. As for the thermostat, in your case, I'd probably experiment with different heat ranges rather than drill holes, but keep in mind changing the temperature on the thermostat. You might have to change heat range on your spark plugs. Now for the heater core, every water jacket on the long block is going to be an outlet so you can use one on the intake to feed your heater core, but the outlet of the heater core will have to dump into the radiator or the water pump. Anything attached to the water pump will be in inlet.

    hello my friend
The video is very wonderful and useful and I wish you progress and success
I have a question that I hope you will answer me
I want to buy this pump and its quality in the Amazon app
I want to use it on the LS2 engine
I want to know is it the same problem I have?
And also how good is the pump that you have so that I know whether to buy or not
    Thank you. 😊

this pump will NOT work for you. we have absolutely different engines. I have a "gen III small block" thats been around since like the 40s.The "LS" plateform didnt start until like 1999.

No bypass it will overheat. Vortec had external bypass like a big block .

Mine is non-vortec and it's not overheating but it was harder to bleed out air. I don't know if it was because of the lack of bypass or because of the pump itself

@@GibsonGarage You really do want some sort of bypass to stop steam generation and hot spots before the thermostat opens. Either a working heater core as a bypass OR just drill a couple of holes in the thermostat or use the EMP/Stewart high flow thermostat that already comes with 3 holes pre-drilled.
