The only reason we get the sensationalist takes recently is because we've trained them to do so. They get more views and money from celebrity coverage and 'patriotic' swill than anything real and impactful; it's on us to change that and to ensure that those who do their jobs like McBride don't get punished for it.

the how part is pretty simple usually, really if your aim is to commit a war crime the hard part is getting your ass into a warzone as someone that someone else says is a soldier which is a requirement - by that point you'll be in possession of a gun usually too so really makes the committing part of it rather an uncomplicated affair. really the complicated part why you need training is that you wouldn't commit them.

edit: seriously though the distinction is kinda important because the sas/australia/coalition is responsible as a whole for the warcrimes of their soldiers so actually many people should be prosecuted and go to prison for this, this is mainly kind of what makes it different from a mere civilian murder spree.

American here. Even if you aren't Australian, this is an important story to share. In a post-9/11 world, the government (and in particular in the US, the ABC organizations) are constantly vying for greater authority and reach, to the point of covering up atrocities.
Any time a whistleblower program in the western world fails, it endangers us all, because despite being different countries, there is undeniable influence between us.
The FDA is slowly (very, very, VERY slowly) adopting the standards of the EU for food safety, marijuana legalization, and of course, privacy laws, are constantly influenced by the policies of our peers.
The press should be held accountable, since the press is responsible for holding government accountable (in principle). Granted, our press is beyond fucked in the US (both sides, etc.) but that doesn't mean we shouldn't shame news organizations when they exhibit clear motive to protect the powers that be, rather than hold them accountable.
Also, maybe humans shouldnt be committing war crimes against other humans, and if someone points that out, we shouldnt punish them with life in prison?
Justice for McBride is justice for us all.
Anyone outside of Australia should spread this around as far and wide as it will go until the Australian government and ABC (not to be confused with the orgs i mentioned above) are shamed into doing their jobs properly. Someone, somewhere should feel ashamed for what McBride has gone through, and until he is vindicated, it is the public's duty to make sure that the "someone" out there feels the heat (non-violent heat, though, you psychos).
Much love from the US. We love you aussie cvnts. You are the deep south to our deep south, the florida to our florida, and the de facto containment center for all of those satanic creatures you call "animals".

While they're most likely conducted by a soldier on the front line, I can only wonder how far up the chain of command knew about possible crimes but may not have reported them.

This included the murder of whole families including children. What alarms me in particular about this is that they were likely using troops like the SAS to carry this out, and as a result tacitly endorsing the murder of non-combatants.

Seems like everyone's reacting to the title and his opening bit about being fashion police. The point of this video is to call out the ABC who've abandoned the initial whistleblower exposing war crimes in Afghanistan but happy to report on the outcome of the defamation trial from a rival network. Basically, WTF???

In all seriousness though, he doesn't deserve the Victoria Cross. I can't even find the reason that he got it in the first place honestly. He wasn't even half the soldier Cameron Baird, Mark Donaldson or Daniel Keighran were, or are. Cameron Baird and Daniel Keighran both threw themselves directly into enemy fire which resulted in them saving the lives of several other soldiers, in Daniels case, exposing himself during a firefight to draw fire away from medics that were treating his wounded mate under fire. In Cameron Baird's case, literally giving his life in the process by charging into a fatal funnel first and calling out enemy positions whilst being shot. Mark Donaldson ran out into the open for around 80 meters, into enemy fire from a larger force completely exposed to get a wounded Afghan interpreter and drag him back to cover and made sure he was loaded up, and then ran out of the fight on foot so the wounded could be medevac'd as there wasn't enough space in the vehicles.
Ben is just a stain on the thousands of Australians who served their country, more-so when you compare him to any other Victorian Cross receiver.

The biggest thing in this is when a VC is awarded, even if you are guilty of any crime even mass murder you wear that medal and that medal alone to the gallows. Because no matter what crime you did that singular act of courage was more than could be asked of any singular person. And further if you want someone to call out look into Angus Campbell he disavows those soldiers and removed those citations yet still wears the citation awarded to that unit
