The Woolich ecu tune and dyno makes it even better with throttle response at 1500rpm. Been great on track, long rides, handles well in dirt. Razor sharp on road and very reassuring to ride. Cheers.
I had two of these. Each was a 2008 US version with the quarter fairing. It was charcoal metallic with gold wheels instead of the green ones on yours. It was the best bike I ever owned. When I crashed the first one, I found an identical bike and bought it. It is very fast, very refined, very enjoyable. It is a definite gem of a bike and the motor is bulletproof if you change the oil and don't abuse it. It will do close to 100 mph in 1st gear. Mount a set of Metzeler 01SE tires and head out for the twisties.
I agree, really easy to ride. I've done Track days, short and long rides, dirt and lots of rain. Been awesome. I now were another one is fir around 5k. The semi fairing model, well looked after and sorted. Mines going well, mart service coming up and then another big adventure.
Love my 2009 full fairing fz1. I have yet to come across another one. Rare and so much fun. Not the fastest bike I have owned, but far from the slowest...does everything well though. Best jack of all trades I have ever owned.
Good to see you getting back on the road. The FZ1 is a good choice👍 There is a good channel by Andy Man cam who runs one of these. He's done quite a few mods to his.
Just bought as a second bike a 2008 fz1n. White in colour. 55,000kms, runs like new. Yoshi pipe. Its in really good nick for $6000 including a ventura rack as well as a givi hard case and base plate. Lots of grunt. None of the fuelling issues people sook about. My mate just rode it to Phillip Island from Sydney for motogp 2023 whilst i jumped on my 2008 vfr800. Swapped bikes as we went and its a fun thing for not much coin
Nice, good price, lots of bang for the money. I did the Woolich race tune to get that low down power back. Just the map. What a way to enjoy the first ride. Congrat on the new ride, Wozza
Great to see you back I've not uploaded for 2 months. Went bike hunting and I'm waiting for delivery of a 2010 FZ1-N. Will be good to see what you do to it, I'm already thinking of a couple of mods.
Thanks mate, there a real good bike for the outlay. Everything I wanted is there except a rear bag and heated handgrips. I've ordered a bag so my daughter feels safe riding with me and some luggage for travelling.
Great to see you back at it with the videos Wozza! Hope the family's well. Ever since doing my opens test on an FZ6N I've been keeping my eye out for one of them as a second road bike - just felt really good to ride and look really good for their age. I didn't realise you could get the FZ1N so cheap (especially with all those mods) - I might have to keep an eye out for these too. Ride safe!
Had FZ1NA from new in 2014. Had test ride on MT10 to upgrade in 2018 but thought better of it and kept the FZ1NA. My FZ1NA (1 = 1000 cc; N = Naked; A = ABS) will keep up with most modern exotica bikes. It loves high speed cornering and tight twisty roads. Stable. It’s aggressive looks has road presence. You don’t need any power upgrades etc. The only thing I would change is the standard exhaust which weighs a ton and metal brake pipes. High mileage not important. But tyres are if you want to get the best out of your ride. Check stator magnets have been changes. There was a product recall I think. Yamaha glued the magnets and they can separate.
I picked up a 2011 fz1 last year from the original owner for $5k, ohlins suspension full exhaust power comander dyno tuned. Its a beast. Coming from a r1 and gsxr1000, its got about the same power but much more comfortable to ride.
Mate, I know what you mean. The MT-10 is a great bike, I loved it, Lights were bad but easy to add a bar light, 140hp and exciting to ride, the short wheel base is direct and the front wheel a bit or a lot flighty. The FZ-1 is half the price and only 10hp less, R1 based and easy to get more performance from this platform and seems easier to ride fast. I've been looking a the BMWs1000r as the next ride or maybe s1000rr simply because I'm looking for 160 rwp and a bike I can do alot of miles on. The Tuono would be nice, I'm just looking at how many klms I like to do and how many service center's and parts would be available.
Thanks for that feedback. Track days are cancelled now however I did feel it would be quite fast. The FZ1 I purchased come with race slipons as well, I've just done a Woolich custom map and dyno tune with a suspension tune. These FZ1 are very underrated and a real bargain. Thanks again Stephen, stay well.
I have both MT10 and 2006 FZ1, the FZ1 is well modded and in some ways is more of a handful than the MT10 and is also slightly faster.. But stock vs stock the MT10 is way better.. both great bikes
Thanks for your insight into both bikes. Having only ridden this 2009 FZ1 for 40min, it felt quick good. It does have those extra performance parts, Powercommander, Airfilter, Sprocket, suspension and dyno'd so to me, it felt very fast, all be it 10kg heavier or perhaps less with pipe. The MT-10 should be and is a better bike given there 7 Years plus newer. The short wheel base make the MT a real hoot to ride, mine had the Woolich racing tune. The Front wheel always in the air under power, the FZ1 perhaps is more planted in the power delivery. I'm really keen to experience the FZ1 more and of course I miss the MT-10. A FZ1 can be purchased for half the price of the MT-10, the good thing is, it's not half the bike, Maybe 10% less, that's a lot of bang for buck. I think if I was going new again I'd go straight to the 2020 KTM 1290. That is the bad boy.
I concur with your findings as the owner of a 2008 FZ6N myself They really are the perfect all rounder huh? @@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Yes it is shaping up to be a real street fighter. I have ordered a new upper fairing from Yamaha and headlight as well. Also, the FZ1 is much better looking, side by side it makes the MT10 look a bit of a dogs dinner, to many bits, shapes going on. Used to love the look of the MT10. Side by side it's way to fussy. Great choice for your next bike. Enjoy. Thanks for video, Vinny. 👍👍👍👍
The FZ1 has a timeless beauty. Most people can't believe it's from 2009. It's easier to ride in some ways than the MT-10, not as maniac. Great bike over all. Thanks Vinny. Wozza
Both are excellent motorcycles. Personally, I feel like you’re going slightly backwards, technology wise with the FZ. I have a 2023MT 10. I just think the MT has evolved slightly, but still both very nice bikes
Yes, the Fz is raw, no Abs, no traction control, slipper clutch or power mods. It's an entry level bike from 2009. The good thing is they can be remapped, the suspension just needs tuning to your weight and style of riding. The brakes a good. Those sport footrests are crap on this bikes. Friend of mine change it because he was scraching the road all the time but original ones are on the spring so they shut when scraching. And then when he installed this sport ones they didn't shut and he was high-sided. And this was his first ride with this footrests. I'm not talking about that specific footrest but for all sport footrest without spring.
Yes, I heard they were crap, I heard they break. I haven't had any problems yet on or off road or on the track days. I still don't trust them too long when standing on them. Thanks for the info, Wozza.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Yes mine is about as moded as possible. Full Yoshi system Ivans Flashed ECU Power Commander5 with quick shifter, ohlins rear and R1 forks. Done a 10.2 sec 1/4. Never selling this one.
A few guys dis n your decision ,,im hoping you were able to put a few bucks in the pocket from 10 sale ,,,looks like a fun bike ,,saw the other video,,,sounds bad ass,,,be safe,,,how did you enjoy the fz07?
Hi Bill, The FZ07 was a great bike. It doesn't really matter about what people think, Most of these people don't even ride and then those that do can't ride that well, then those that are left don't bother. All the blokes today at the club ride loved the bike, thought it was a steal at the price, half the price of a second hand MT-10 and just as fast if not better in the corners. Todays ride was crazy fun and this FZ1 is a hell of a lot of bike. Can't wait for a Track day.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides perfect attitude,,,theres only one opinion that matters right ,, im guessing were gonna see more of this beast ,,,,so many bikes and so little time
Fz1N feels bit more raw and more of a purist bike vs mt10. Fz1n has more sexy lines fit my taste Also that screamer engine once some restrictions removed with ecu and exhaust is brutal. Bulletproof engine sold mine before the r1 with 78k kms just one valve needed but i took extremely care of her and she never skipped a beat. Still miss the fz1n street raw feeling . Def gonna grab one around march 21 if savings go good. Good pair with my 2 r1 bikes. And perfect commuter and mountain rides blast
Yes, all good points, Thinking about it the seat height on the FZ1 is a little lower as well, the longer wheel base offers that bit more stability. I'm really surprised how good this bike feels. Thanks mate, cheers.
I had a 2006 FZ1 which was the worst bike I've ever owned. The upshift gear change was notchy and difficult to apply and according to the FZ1 forum, this was not an isolated incident. The Power Commander was woeful and friends following my bike at the time complained about the fuel constantly coming from the exhaust and this after the bike had just been serviced. Sold it and ended up with a 2012 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 which in my opinion is a vastly superior bike and well worth the extra few bucks it cost. Good presentation none the less and nice to watch your vid again Waz!
Sounds like a bit of a dud, I didn't find any problems like that on this bike, a 2012 Triumph was a bike I was looking at and a 990, KTM 2009. This bike seems well suited and loved by it's previous owner. Thanks for your input, I'd be pretty pissed if this bike ends like that.
Yeah early models (06 07) have bad stock fueling and also the crack in the frame. What you experienced is a mix of bad map/no lambda sensor/no cat/no AIS. Later models with proper tuning are really good bikes.
Your right about that, 105,000klms, track days, off road, Daily commutes, big adventures and still going strong. Proper maintenance is everything. Cheers mate.
Dont get me wrong, the fz1 is a good bike for someone on a budget that doesnt have a bunch of experience. Its plenty fast and handles okay. But it is absolutely not near the bike the mt10 is. Literally everything is better on the mt, by quite a bit. But like i say, if you are on a budget, or just starting out and trying to get some experience, then... whatever works, works. If you have $6k and can afford $120 per month, most people will be much happier with the mt.
I've spent 3year 10months on a MT-10, all the fruit, ride days at 3 different tracks. It's a great bike. Short wheel base the same as a MT-07. I think from my first ride on a tuned and sorted FZ1 it's not for someone with little experience and will definitely hold it's on in most sports bike or naked bike ride days. Have you ridden both or owned either?
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Both are kick ass bikes. I apologize if it sounded like i was putting down the fz1. All in all the mt10 lacks a bit in the brakes and suspension also so, its not twice the bike the fz is or anything like that. I love them both and have experience with both. I have also had both on the dyno. Peak hp only tells part of the story. The important numbers to look at on the dyno are how quickly it generates speed. Like you said, its a different kind of power. An fz1 makes power like a great 90's naked bike. An mt is a little more modern when it comes to power delivery. Two bikes can have the same peak hp numbers but accelerate very differently. In my opinion a skilled rider would probably do better in the long run on the mt. But if you have $5 and dont want a payment... the fz is absolutely not a bad choice. One just needs to keep in mind that the limits are a little lower for the fz compared to the mt. If you do a track day on the fz1 id like to hear your input on it. An mt with an ecu flash and some suspension and brake work would be a tough act to follow, let alone catch. keep up the great work, your channel is sweet!
Thanks, I agree the MT-10 will jump straight away at 2500rpm and the Tourque in bmode on the 2016 with the Woolich tune was crazy fast but most people would struggle at bit with the short wheel base keeping the front down. At the Strip there pretty hard to get off the line, still quite fast. The MT-10 is of course a better more modern bike with traction control and and ABS. Having said that a second MT-10 2016 should be around that $11,000 to $12,000, so the comparison is a Naked bike that's a great alrouder, does everything well, not perfect and around half the price, you can get the original supernaked FZ1. I have had only a 20min ride of the FZ1 so not a lot of experience on it, I do feel that this FZ1 has been set up to ride fast and can't wait to ride it more. I would love to put it on the Dyno to see how the powercommander and tune run in this bike, however the test ride confirmed to me it's set up very well, it's very fast and it's not for a inexperienced rider. I miss my MT-10 , I do feel however this bike will be a lot of fun, Track days to come.
People usually work on their bikes. You can change the rear shock absorber and revalve the fork for cheap. Throw in a quality full exhaust and a good tune and you'll change your mind. The stock exhaust on the MT-10 also needs to be changed so you're only left with the suspension. I really hate the transformers look all the brands are going for lately so that also makes me lean towards the fz1. I wouldn't mind having cruise control available though
@@Beebzafreak I got this 2009 model because someone has spent the money on it with go fast parts. Coming from the MT-10 this bike is very fast. FZ1 is very fast and set up well. I can hop straight on it, ride it to a Track day, have a ripper track day on it and ride home. Good allrounder.

My FZ1S with full tank weighs in at 216kg
ok, does your bike have abs. I think the abs option adds a bit extra weight.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides No but it is the faired version and it has 2 projector headlights, cruise control and heated grips added
Sounds like a nice ride. I got the ECU flashed, custom map and dyno. A very nice bike. I'm really happy with this model.
@@WozzasSportsCruiserRides Yes mine is about as moded as possible. Full Yoshi system Ivans Flashed ECU Power Commander5 with quick shifter, ohlins rear and R1 forks. Done a 10.2 sec 1/4. Never selling this one.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
i agree mate these fz-1n is such a underpraised bike.
Unbelievable and quite dialled in on track.
Fz1n has more sexy lines fit my taste
Also that screamer engine once some restrictions removed with ecu and exhaust is brutal.
The FZ1 is such as sleeper.
Yes it is.
Which is faster?
MT-10
Hi can anyone tell me does the fz1 have a quickshifter inbuilt or do we have to install ot
Does it have a quickshifter inbuilt or do we have to buy it n then install it
You can get one for the FZ1.
But does it come with a quickshifter already installed when purchasing ot
No mate, they don't as far as I know.
They don't have one but you can emulated one when flatchanging
U just blip the throttle slightly while preloading the gear lever
I've got an 08 fz1 and I love it but if I was going for looks I would have to say the mt10 but overall it's pretty much the same bike.
Yes, I like the look of the Mt-10. A bit more manic as well. Still, whats not to like then it comes to the FZ1 Cheers, Wozza
Good work mate was I right? M5rr or M7RR?
Let’s go hit the strip mate 😃
Yes mate, I think it's the M7RR, I think this might be a bit easier to get off the line at the strip. Thanks for your help.
It's just me or this guy's sounds like Connor McGregor's twin ?
my fz1 has the same red seat
Nice.
the catch is the cheap aftermarket rearset from eBay, be very fucking careful, that is cheaply made and I've heard of the bolts snapping
Thanks Darren, I had wondered about there quality.
If its been properly maintaines 56,000km is nothing for that bike.
Your right about that, 105,000klms, track days, off road, Daily commutes, big adventures and still going strong. Proper maintenance is everything. Cheers mate.
Next time look out for super sucking back ground sound not to be there ! My ears are bleeding lol
Sadly I would not recommend team moto to anyone the sales guys talk a whole lot of shit and need to learn how to sell not LIE to potential customers
Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
