- Howdy, Name's Elijah. I'm 15, 4th Generation Farmer. We Farm 2000 Acres of Corn and Soybeans in Central Virginia. I Run the Grain Cart with a John Deere 8235R and Corn Planter with a John Deere 7530.

I can recall stories that my late Father told of my Grandfather trying to fill the old grease gun for the farm equipment. I can only imagine very frustrating for my grandfather, but entertaining to hear just the same.

The chickens are waiting for me.
I'm flying home again today to collect our chickens. We need about 4 nights to put all the chickens in cages so they can be slaughtered. Then all the halls are cleaned thoroughly and we receive new chicks. We have machines for cleaning, but as always it is a lot of work. Many people don't even know how farming works. A volunteer from London once asked me where the trees where the melons grow are. But the best thing is when everything is done we go swimming in the Mediterranean. No work for 4 days, what more could you want. Greetings Aaron✌

When I was 13, my grandfather, who had a small berry farm, started having health issues. As the oldest male in the greater family, I was expected to help him out. I would walk from school to his farm, get on the tractor until dinner. My mom would then pick me up. I would then study a bit, watch a TV show and then off to bed. At times it did not seem fair, but later in life when I lost my job, the skills I learned helping my dad and my grandfather got me a really great job as a maintenance man at a large testing laboratory. Also, the farm work ethic never left me. When I retired, rather than join a health club, I volunteered to restore a semi abandoned park. I clear land and build trails. Great exercise and I love seeing people return to the park and enjoy what I have accomplished in restoring it.

This might be your best video yet! Good explanation, helps me to understand farming life. Great humor, good camera creativity (like with the still flashes). I see farm work is challenging, handling all those seed bags is probably a workout. I think it's really important that more young people appreciate and know something about farming so videos like these are helpful.

I grew up in a small farming community in the middle of South Africa where my dad and grandfather were the area agents for Massey Ferguson tractors, harvesters and implements. Nothing as fancy as today, though! Loved playing on them in the display hall! You are a STAR!

In the roughly 250 year history of the United States, we've gone from maybe 95% of the population farming down to 3%, and of course the technological advancements have been phenomenal and yields are way up, but a couple bad harvests can still spell disaster. Thanks for all you and your family do, Elijah! I don't know what part of your audience is made up of "city folk" like me, but it's educational & humbling to see all the hard work you do every day, and it fills me with gratitude. God bless!
